  1. For the fabric, it seems that it was some sort of lightly polished synthetic fabric.... Take a look: Now as to what it actually is I have no clue since there are literally thousands of options. Most people settle with duck cloth or something similar, but it would be great to experiment with different sheens to see what we can come up with!
  2. Went to my local home depot to see what other colors were available and unfortunately, the gray version was much too dark. It's kind of a pain, but painting the cable might be the best option after all.

  4. It's hard to describe the look and feel through poor pictures, but I encourage everyone to try it for themselves. It just looks so spot on! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  5. So true. I keep finding things that just make sense.. I don't think they wrapped their cable quite as tightly as mine either. The tube is definitely black underneath but it seems like they left a tiny space between each wrap to give even more contrast. These details just go to show how amazing costume designers are! 6. EDIT July 31st 2017 Damn photobucket...just migrated all the photos to imgur. Hopefully they'll be safe now. Hey everyone! I've been researching a ton to try and figure out what type of cable was used to wrap the TD tube. Well, I think I may have found it! So without further ado, here is what I've discovered. Firstly, the photos of the original prop: The weird thing about these photos is that the cable seems to have an almost trapezoidal shape. Well....I scoured the internet and my local hardware stores and no one could think of a cable that was shaped that way. One gentleman at my local Home Depot suggested it might be cord that had been split. Well that opened up a whole new realm of possibilities! I had an epiphany when I was looking at my wife's straightening iron....I saw the power cord and thought "Wait a minute..." Luckily I had a few of these lying around: I cut the ends off and split the cables apart... Each split cable is different. One side has 3 grooves running along the entirety of the cable....this is NOT the side we want! We want the other side...the details are a little hard to see as my cable is white, so I apologize for that. I then proceeded to wrap my tube and was amazed by what I found! By golly, I think this is it! Here is the finished product... And here is the original: The other part of the puzzle is the type of tube to be wrapped. After coordinating with Strider on a few things we came up with a 1 3/8" tube. I used this one from Home Depot: Here's a shot of the back of my TD: This is by far the most accurate combo I've seen and incredibly easy and cheap to implement. Any Home Depot anywhere will carry the cable. For guys outside the US just look for a 16 gauge combo power cord. It should work perfect. I dare so this may have been the same thing the guys at ILM did (albeit with older style cable, and likely not painted). The effect speaks for itself. Get on it people!
  7. Wow. Very nice. Are these on the trade forum? Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  8. I came up with a slightly different solution. I wanted mine to be removable but still screen accurate. So an elastic strip (slightly too thick atm) is riveted to the rank topper just like the originals, but rather than it crossing all the way to the bottom and being riveted there and making the connection permanent, I added velcro on the inside. I riveted the bottom elastic strap to the tank only and cut a slot to pass it through to the inside of the back. This makes the tank easily removable but still screen accurate with the visible elastic at the top of the tank. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  9. Maybe it's a Rebels kit?
  10. Good to know. I actually was looking at my TK armor and realized that the leather used on the shoes is spot on. I shot an email over to tkboots to see if they can help! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  11. Hey Gino, I may have an opportunity to meet with Ira Keeler...one of the designers/builders of the suit. Assuming I have the opportunity, what things should I ask him about? Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  12. I believe so. I called a Tandy leather near my house and spoke with a guy who was very familiar with the Biker Scouts and said off of the top of his head he thinks it's one of 2 leathers. Forgive me for my ignorance surrounding leather, but he said I if i brought in some pictures he would be able to help a bit more so that's what I plan to do! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  13. So good! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  14. Hey all, since it's pretty clear now that the boots were actually made from a white leather, has anyone experimented with different types yet? The originals have a kind of 'sheen' to them, but I've yet to see a leather that looks quite like it.
  15. Where did you manage to find those? Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  16. Hey there Josafoot! I'd love to add you to our Bay Area Facebook group. Got a lot of up and coming Scouts on there at various stages of their builds. Send me a PM and I'll get you the info.
  17. Now THAT is a Scout helmet. Wow. Beautiful. This is making the wait much harder on me! \m/
  18. I think that having a Stickie under the helmet forum would be a great idea if these were still available for purchase. However, as has been stated by RS, these will likely never be made available again...so there won't be any newbies who can even buy one of these unless someone who already has one sells it here. Good looking out though! We are all trying to help each other out with these sorts of things. 👠\m/
  19. Hey Ken! I'm the ART leader in your area. I'll send you a PM with a Facebook link
  20. I've never handled a LW, but I'm in Wave 3 for my RS. I'm actually pretty fortunate to be in Wave 3 as the craftsmanship will I'm sure be better at that point. The Stormtroopers that RS put out are of great quality and make. They've spoken several times about their underestimation of the difficulty to produce these. LW is an AMAZING talent, but the dream has always been to have what I saw on screen....which for all intents and purposes is what I I'm getting with an RS. The question is, who is going to be the first person to make a new sculpt using the measurements of the RS? THAT would be pretty awesome. The more accurate helmets we can get out into the wild the better! \m/
  21. If you read the comments on that post you'll see that they admit to seriously underestimating what it would take to actually get these out there. Sounds like the same boat EFX is in but RS managed to get a few out \m/
  22. Yes. Yes they are! I actually sent an extremely polite message last week for an update. Looks like this is it. \m/
  23. Well that didn't work lol. Here's a screencap.
