What am I doing wrong with this SC helmet
cucblack replied to 01Hawk's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Hi Howard, Much better that in the first pics. Also would be change the bolts for a 3M speedglass. I think the mask not have in the correct position and not fit good in the helmet. I don't know how you assembled it. But I'll give you some tips, to how assembled mine. ALWAYS USE SCREEN OR ORIGINAL HELMET PICS FOR A REFERENCE 1. First work only with the visor. Assemble it in the Helmet, put the bolts. Try open/close (up/down). It should be in the correct position and fit perfect with the helmet. If don't fit, work in it until fit perfect. 2. Once time the visor is OK, insert the face mask into the visor (attached to the helmet). Now you must work with the face until get the correct fit and position. Once time is OK mark with a pencil the area where the mask need be assembled. 3. Glued/attach the mask with the visor. -
If you have a compressor: Automotive paint. Better is polyurethane. With small Paint Gun. Solvent Thinner. Before paint, remove any primmer excess sanding in water. Piece must be extremely soft like a baby skin. Without sand lines, marks, holes, etc. Also before paint job, practice in other piece until get the correct technique.

Here a pic comparison. Thanks to Christina from Germany for this picture. She is a 175 cm high and Helmet looks proportional comparing with the original. In a taller person would look closer.

When you pad your Helmet use a thick foam in the front (brow area) and a thin foam in the back. And you will have more room in the face area.

I made some helmets with bolts time ago. I'll post some pic for a reference if maybe help. Sent from my Lumia using Tapatalk

In my opinion, the most important is use a thin lens. I use 1mm thick. Easy to mold in any shape. How to attach? Hot glue fast and clean work. Bolts looks better but require more job. Sent from my Lumia using Tapatalk

Here you can see the helmet proportion relative to the body size. Thinking in 180cm high for a standard size. Helmet is big. made mine with a 185 high for a reference.

Cummerbund in the movie looks like cotton. But in the exhibition pics like synthetic, maybe the same material Boba Fett vest. Sent from my Lumia using Tapatalk

Clearly is not a TK neck seal. When I said a Stormtrooper o Boba Fett neck seal "style" I'm referring to a neck seal for hide the neck and with strips. Strips looks too similar to a TK and the material a cotton fabric, similar to the Suit. But all is speculation. Maybe I wrong.

Good. Personally I like more rounded the external sides. But better hear other opinions too. Better if takes a complete face pic. Is important see the proportion.
-
Looks good. Maybe the nose area a little more high. Don't cut the upper edge nose. Only a little sanding.

I think there are different sizes in the ear holes and lens visor. Also in some Helmets shapes. Maybe the assembled job, thermoforming process, plastic thick, etc. When I see screen caps sometimes I see different shapes and details. Personally I like big ear holes and lens visor and I used a screen cap for a reference. But I must hear the fellows opinions and I'm making some modifications in the Helmet and one is reduce the ear hole size. Soon I'll post pics with the advance and I hope your opinions and help from you with the modifications. Here a screen caps pics and helmets looks little different.

I don't have a helmet at the moment, some in construction. I'll take the measures. But the measure is too close, great scaled work Rob.

All are speculations. The true is comparing it side to side. I made my helmet and my other props scaled in a 185 cm high. Thinking in the US and European people usually are big. And in my big melon too. When I tried to wear my Don Post, was impossible in any way. and I decided make my own size. Long long time ago...

Looks good. I think the end of the flap is narrow (the velcro closure zone) and large. Maybe you could cut the edge (one inch) and thus increase the wide and reduce the high.

Thanks for the info Gino.

Maybe some scenes used neck seal and others not. Some scenes has months of difference and modify some props details. The strips looks like a TK neck seal stile. Sent from my Lumia using Tapatalk

Personally I think that a Boba Fett or Stormtrooper neck seal style would look great in a Biker Scout Prop. Especially because the neck is too visible with this helmet. Seeing some screen pics, find a possible neck seal used.

I think have it. There is a pics with the original Helmet with it. Why add a chin cup after the movie to the helmet. Is not logical. Sent from my Lumia 710 using Tapatalk

Looks closer. Great to see that!!! Actually I'm reshaping and resizing my Helmet. One of these modifications is make a little small the face. But after see this pic maybe I'll keep the actual size. -
I heard that it is a great Helmet. And you have others too. Would be great if you in the future post comparative pics with your helmets for give a realistic reference in accuracy, shape and size. Good luck in your new project.

Helmet looks great. And if is made from original helmet, absolutely fantastic. Considering it is made from original Helmet, license fees, development, production costs, staff costs and have a benefit or utility. The price is reasonable. Unfortunately only available for a segment of people that can pay this amount. If I could get one, I never think use it for troop, only for display. -
Pouches don't have external stitching on the flaps? In this pic have. And others movie pics looks like too.

Really sad read this thread. Is too easy damage years of work. Is correct that this year, specifically this last months my post office has been serious problems with the dispatch and sometimes they gave me wrong information about the shipment status. Problems that I explained in detailed to some impatiens people. Unfortunately, here in Bolivia, the things are different to others country, states company like post office has not not technology, people too informal and not capacity to make a good job, etc. Fortunately there was a completely internal change and now the things are better. Also tried to find a optional shipping way but is too expensive. Is not my intention make businesses here. In fact I not offer or sale products in this forum. All sales are for members that contact me. My intention here is show, support and be supported to try to make a better prop replica. Tim, I hope you receive soon yours package. And thanks to others that understanding this issue and who have patience.
