Update 1st Jan. Enjoyed the camo stage soooo much I decided to do some dry brush weathering, add the hinge and aerator greeblies and the decals. I think it's almost finished. Can't decide if I need more weathering? Darren
-
Phew....that's a relief. Cheers Tom Update. I've added a brown layer. What do you guys think? More green or brown? Can I also wish you all a Very Happy 2011 and thank you guys for the warm welcome, the motivation and the superb advice. Darren

Recieved the greeblies yesterday Frank, very nice. Can't wait to start on the gloves in the new year. Cheers mate Darren

LOL, you naughtly boy Dan Update: Started on the camo ( boy it's fun ). This is my first green layer. I ended up using a flat, stiff bristled brush and 'dabbing it around the shape of the camo pattern to get a 'feathered' edge. I'm leaving it to dry for a few hours, then gonna start putting some brown on it. Darren

Thanks for the fast replies guys. I believe that Skip and Nathan (heatshock) have gotten paint matched to your origional sample, so mine should be almost identicle after weathering etc. Now the part I'm looking forward to........it's camo time

Cheers Andrew, but I may not need it In a hardware store searching for somthing completely non-related when I came across a colour of Rustoleum that I hadn't seen before ( Fossill ). I've learn't my lesson now and allways carry Tom's colour sample sheet around with me. Guess what........I think we have a winner. See what you guys think. Darren

Whilst out shopping I came across a company I'd never heard of who do aerosol acrylic paints. One of em' I thought was a possible contender as a match for the base coat. I've given the lid a few coats to see what you guys think. Is it close enough? It looks a little 'yellow' in my kitchen lights. I've taken one with a flash, one without. Obviously it'll look a bit different once the green and brown are painted on, had a green wash and a dusting of black. Interested in your thoughts folks. Darren

Cheers guys. Great to have feedback from people who've made these in the past. Another update 28th Dec. Another stage of rubbing down and a coat of primer. Looking a little better, but the primer has shown up some more surface blemishes, so another lot of filling, rubbing and primer to go Next job will be the slot in the top of the visor. Darren

Hi folks. Hope your all having a great Christmas. I'm on with my MB v1.5 helmet at the moment and a few questions crossed my mind as I was working on it. 1. The slot that goes across the snout. Does this need to be opened and mesh put behind it, or could it just be painted black? 2. In some builds I've seen a rectangular slot cut into the top of the visor, in others it seems to be missing. Is it required? If it is ( or even recommended ) are there any dimensions for it? Cheers guys. Darren

WOW Cameron, that's a tight schedule buddy. Good luck with the build and keep us posted with pics.

Update 27th December I've cut out the ear holes and done several more stages of bondo, fillerprimer and wet sanding. I think that the surface is pretty much ready for the proper primer coat. Darren
-
Yeah, that makes sense Tom, thanks. Been doing a bit of bondoing and sanding this afternoon Filled the main surface marks..... and gave it all a coat of filler/primer, then rubbed down again to smooth some of the minor marks. ( kinda looks like it's been left outside in Tatooine ). Darren

Boxing Day update.....! Opened up the back vent slots by chain drilling and filing. A quick question....... The large 'ear' openings. Does anyone have a closeup pic they could post so I know how far to file them open. Cheers. Darren

It's Christmas........ Look what Santa brought.......... Cheers to my lovely wife for buying it for me and to Tom for making it ( very cool kit mate ) The lid as it arrived........... and after an hour in the workshop ( with a temporary visor in ) ........ Best wishes everyone. Have a great holiday. Darren

Another question folks ( yep, I'm a pain I know ). How does the position and size of the riding patch look in the following pics. These are just fabric templates pinned into place at the moment, so nothing is sewn yet. Darren
-
Cheers guys. Yeah I agree the base coat is too 'yellow'. I've since found another paint by Citadel, Kommado Khaki ( thanks Dan ), that's almost a perfect match for the base coat on the sample. And don't worry guys.....I will most definately enjoy the armour Darren
-
Okay Tom

Hi guys. Christmas is nearly upon us ( and I finally get my hands on my lovely new Mr.Bungle armour ). I received the colour sample sheet with the armour and then read the suggested paints on the draft CRL. Now this is where I'm upto. In the following picture Tom's samples are in the centre, with the suggested Tamiya paints on the right. Don't know wether the codes differ here in the UK but the colours just didn't match at ( apart from the brown ). On the left are my suggested alternatives, which are Citadel acrylic paints. The base coat is similar and the brown almost identicle. I took the green and mixed it with 33% white to get a pretty darn close match to the olive colour too. I'd be interested to see what the experts think. Darren

Hiya guys. Does anyone have any of the window tint film surplus that they wanna sell ( I don't fancy buying a full roll just for myself )? Darren
-
Yep Dan, you may have apoint there mate. They could foul on the side pouches. No worries. It they do I'll either have them moved down a little, or take an inch off the total hieght of the pockets. Darren
