Thanks for the comparison shots Nate, it certainly shows the differences fairly clearly. Yes I will get to work cleaning up the moulds and try to get a few made.
-
Hi Dart, yes I have finished prototype number two, it is no longer in my possession , getting closer with the shape I think, I am going to make the nose section a bit longer and a few small areas need some minor tweaks but hopefully I will be able to post up some new pics soon.

How much do you trim the back bottom and top
lonewolf replied to a topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Hi there ,if you pull the back hump down really tight it should fit nice into the groove, a bit of flexing the plastic should be fine, your line at the rear neck is nice and accurate but try to keep the line as high above the hump as the shape will allow, good luck. -
Yes , you need a bit of padding there , cut the bottom narrow to avoid the "camel's toe" effect!
-
Does the main belt have to be off white or cotton, the gallery pics appear to be white nylon, about to make a new belt, is this acceptable for Lancer?
-
Just received my ABS 2mm white pinseal , here is the first faceplate pull, sorry about the pics, I hope to vacform the other four pieces tomorrow and put version two together.
-
Patience, young Padawan, I have ordered some ABS and look forward to vacforming the updated moulds as much as you! Hopefully there will be some pics up later in the week. I am constantly tinkering with the face plate, I hope I haven't concaved the cheeks too much. Some pics really emphasise this area due to the light source and others give a flatter appearance, I also am a bit unsure how the dome will appear, too high is as bad as too low. The jaw line seems to be looking good beside the longer back side, thanks for your interest.

Gutted for you Skip, I really don't think this has anything to do with keeping standards high, your kit is leading the way this side of the world, they will surely see sense soon enough.

Scratches/Cuts on ABS Armor
lonewolf replied to Wickedfluxx's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
If it is just a fine scratch you can use a wee bit of wet and dry sandpaper to sand it out, then some cutting compound and a good polish. Some abs has a top layer and the colour shade can be different but SC seems to be fine, if it is a deep cut, I would glue another piece of abs behind the cut to stop it getting any worse. Things are never as bad as they seem, good luck crazy knife guy. -
Yes Phil, I fully agree that the SWin C lid is the best lid to reference, it has all the best angles, plenty of pics and is the most screen used version. Regarding a softer material for the "Stunt" version , yes that is very possible although the footage with Luke and Biker Scout neck break scene shows the lid is not rubbery or soft looking, maybe just because it is a close up "Hero" version. Sorry I don't know. I hope we find out about these things some day.

I have a shakey theory why the Biker Scouts have a flared visor in the first scenes, yes we know they were stunt men so the eyes were cut big, maybe the visors were widened as well for this reason or it is simply damage to the lid from Harrison Ford having to dump the guy into the tree x amount of times, breaking the glued sides free. Guys if you show up on my doorstep and help, there is a cup of tea in it for you.

I think it is partly how far away the picture is taken from, if I take a close shot the ears disappear and from far away they appear, this lid is very difficult to pin down.

Two specific types of Biker Scout
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Good post Frank, yes it looks grubby alright, the original weathering techniques were pretty basic, it looks like they were lined up and hit with black and grey spray paint, very effective looking for the film but in reality maybe not so good. The idea of trooping long enough and getting a build up of dirt is fine but it will not look like the film dirt, I am going to try a bit of a mixture, movie style, dirty it up a tad and troop till I drop, it might just work -
The lid has now been adjusted again, the crown is raised and I have created a sharper and longer slope on the bottom edge, the eyes are hopefully a bit sharper but I haven't tried to vacform it yet to see if there is a marked difference yet, slightly reduced the faceplate height, but only slightly and reduced the curve of the visor side top corners, created eight and a half indents on the back of the lid so just waiting on some 2.5mm pinseal ABS (this appears to be what the original shows from being made of ) and I will post up some new pics when I get a chance. I was actually happy with the ears, thanks for the eagle eyes guys, I just hope to keep the passion going. As I said on Phil's post a while ago, yes the DP really is the closest looking if modded well, although smaller.

Sorry, but I don't really know, I suspect the Altmanns is a bit smaller,I have never saw one for real. I have first hand knowledge of the MLC V3, KS, CB and SC lids so can only say they are all about the same size, generally speaking. The nicest of these in shape is SC, although pretty poor overall, best build is the MLC V3, the KS is a neat kit but poorly sent finished, CB is just wrong on most fronts, although it is the biggest of the lot, I have tried to be as honest to these lids as I can be to help folk decide. Mine is still being worked on, I really hope I can do this lid some justice, thanks everyone.

My last time to wear the new lid before I gave it away.
-
I used the left over from my sticker set, it matches very well and depending on your armour, cut a small rectangle to sit in the indent
-
This armour looked great at the Invasion Belfast show, I am a bit biased! Well done Michael, you wear it well.

This is just a suggestion, but what about Death Star Biker Scout for clean and Endor Biker Scout for dirty, I know most clean Biker Scouts like to think new recruit to Endor or something like that but we didn't see any new recruits on Endor.I think if there was a distinct named difference most of us would be going dirty Scout. I just dirtied up a Biker Scout costume and owning a clean version, was very tempted to go Endor Biker Scout. Any thoughts guys?

Final touches to Lid number one, I tried to weather it in the same method as the most screen time used version, also known as the Star Wars in Concert lid. The armour is KS and belongs to my CO. who wanted to go dirty for some crazy reason , I hope he likes his new lid. This snout piece was made by DJ who some of the British guys may know. It is pretty good but I had to half fill the exhaust ports and round the aerator a bit, the back plate was a piece of 1.5mm ABS plastic. A bit more tinkering with the molds[ Dread to think how long this will take] and I hope to get a few out to any interested Biker Scouts. Hope you enjoyed the posts.

KS: Good base for screen accurate looks?
lonewolf replied to a topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Hi Matti, yes it looks like you want to buy the KS kit, it is pretty good, I have one. They are about the same size as a Don Post /Rubies version so are smaller than the original, I will post up the size comparisons hopefully this week as I plan on taking some pics with the DP, KS and MLC V3 together in one photo to avoid any misunderstandings. I spent ages getting the dome and back shell to fit nice but it is possible, I eventually painted the lid and it looks great now, the eyes are very small but you can cut them out to a decent size. The 3m seriies headband can fit into it as well , as long as your head isn't massive. Good luck future Pathfinder. -
Thanks guys, I plan to raise the dome at least 30mm , I was lucky enough to see the SW in Concert lid first hand in Dublin when we trooped at the event. I am also hoping to drop the base edge about 12mm all round or at least from the visor edge almost to the back. I hope Crazy can get some sleep tonight, your comments are inspiring me!
-
Hi Phil, the thickness was 3mm , I was thinking that I would need a bit of strength in it as it was needing to be joined all along the centre line. When I tested the molds on 1.5mm it was a very crisp result although I am still pleased with this depth and sharpness on this lid, it is a good bit deeper and sharper than my KS. Glad you are enjoying the build.

Just a few more further pics guys, Comparison with the smaller KS faceplate MC snout detail is a tiny bit shy,
-
Pushed up tight to the top dome and tight on the face plate, it is about three millimeters from the bottom flush.
