Okay, cool. I was wondering about how many ribs... the FAQ didn't specify if there had to be a specific number. I'll use your photos here for reference when I ruin... I mean,... cut mine in. (rustles through tools box, sharpens the x-acto, readies the Dremel. )
-
That's cool. Okay...next question.... about how many ribs should be cut in, and how deep? I think the rib count was 14, using the screen caps? I can't find the thread that it was discussed on. (P.S. @Witness: What brand of boot do YOU use for your Lancer?)
-
What tool would you recommend using when cutting the vertical ribs?

Nah. Close it. I haven't worked on the armor in at least a month (maybe more). So much personal stuff going on that its just not progressing like it used to. I could always open a new thread if I ever re-start the project, if that's not breaking the rules. Declare it closed, my friend! -

ARCHIVED. CLOSING THREAD. -
Good Luck!! But I think you'll have no problems getting accepted.
-
Are you going to get a balacava or a dickie to cover your neck? Other than that, You look great! I think you should get approval without a problem! Great job!!
-
WOW! What a difference! Looking good! I do not see anything in the standards that say the knob has to be on one side or the other. So I think your detonator greebs are okay. The greeb size is good.

Congrats, and good luck! Scouts can be,... unruly.
-
Very interesting! I'll have to re-read it and adjust my build accordingly.
-
There you are! Looking good! After the cummbund and the pouches are resized, you are going to look awesome!
-
Any new progress?
-
If you can, send KS a message and see what's up. Maybe they did mess up your measurements or sent you the wrong cummerbund. Looking back at the previous pictures it does look big. Do you have the jumpsuit yet? Yes, the armor need a little trimming here and there. The shoulder bells are a big. They'll cover your bicep armor! It does look like its shaping up nicely. If you have some reference photos, take a look it may give you better idea of how much to trim off to fit your proportions. Keep going!!

The Acrylikhan Armor Project Files

Not much progress made this past month. I have been crazy-go-nuts busy! I hate that. It cuts into my play time. Okay, still working on the frickin' holster: So I got all the MDF glued together. Okay that was the last posting... what have we done today? Some of the boards slipped up a bit during the clamping progress so I had to work a little frontier medicine to fix it. I sanded down the offending board and then checked out where the slippage had left a canyon on the other side of the planet. I mean, left a canyon on the forming buck. Like I said, crazy-go-nuts busy. My brain is fried. Once the bondo sets, I will continue to give it a smooth sanding and then determine where the greeblie goes on the front. Time to dig up the screen shots. After that, another quick check to make sure that I have the buck at the correct size. Now I did take card board cut outs to get that 3-D space. There is a chance that in my elated giddiness to get this project re-started, I may have over looked a specific height requirement. That is, that the buck will have enough plastic to crimp and fold a section to attach it to the first part of the holster. These things can and do happen. A little double checking along the way can severely cut these head-banging-against-the-wall instances. After we double check the heights, add the greeblies, and double check the heights and the reference photos, I'll take it to work and give it a nice coat of urethane epoxy. This will help preserve the buck in case I need an extra, and give it a lot more heat resistance. When will we do a test pull you ask? Not for a while... maybe at least another month or two. The vacu-forming table I build kicked the bucket earlier this spring. We had tons of parts to pull, and the nichrome wire for the heating coils gave out. The coils have been replaced. I on the other hand am ready for some improvements that will help with not only this project, but other ones in the future. These improvements include, two zone heating, a deeper oven, and a better plastic holding frame. Also, I have been working on an enhanced version of my shoulder armor. Loosetoon gave me some good perspectives on what the shoulder should look like given my size. That is in the works, and I am tackling that one. Then the chest armor pursuits begins. I am hoping more progress will come in the next few days. We'll see if I can make the time. Thanks for watching. -
Are the pouches sewn into your cummerbund? If you can move them closer inward so that they are closer to the outermost ribs on the cummerbund. If your arms bump into to them while you're walking, you could move them closer inward. They might need to be scaled back in size for your size. But then again, scouts always need someplace to put keys wallet, extra blaster, bottle water, trickets for the kids... and so on. All in all, its up to your own personal preference and comfort!! The best bet is to get the chest armor together, and then start moving forward with the cummerbund and getting the pouches set. I am not sure if there is a KS, tutorial, but there is a wealth of information here on the forum about trimming and fitting. I am very certain you'll be able to dig up what you need! JediJennie's tutorial is very well done!

wow. They're making you work for that grade.
-
Sounds very good. I've built my own too. Trouble is that we used it at work so much, I had to get new coils and I am starting to mod the oven so that the plastic can droop further. I think I only pulled two of my own armor parts with it, and around 500 parts for work. I shouldn't complain... work is paying for replacement nichrome wire.. Do you already have a set of plans for your table?

Holy Nest of Gandarcs! Jim!!!! I haven't seen you in a long time! Yeah... progress has been slow, as other things have eaten through my time. But I will have you know, work on the pistol buck has continued, but I have had to make adjustments to the vacu-fomring machine. It seems it's lost its edge, and heating ability has suffered from heavy industrial and model making use. I am hoping this coming week will give me a chance to get more work done on the holster. Then its time to tackle the chest armor... and the tank. June and July should be wicked cool, if time allows. -

Such a busy month, and not on projects! Just a little smidge of work to report this time around. I have continued working on the buck for the Biker Scout holster. I completed the last few cuts and started the glue up. It didn't go as smoothly as I thought it would. I used too much wood glue. One of the slices slipped during clamping and I couldn't fix it. I will sand the offending slice down and patch any gaps. Then we'll take another look, and take the next step at refining, and adding details. -
Great turn out! Even the boots look good. Your wife did a nice job on the TPM Queen Amidala.
