For the CRL's, each piece of armor & the helmet states this in the first and second lines:

•Metallic undercoat; silver or chrome recommended. Can be applied layered style or topically.

•Amount is dependent on individual troopers.

That first line says "recommended." Nowhere does it say required. (Hence the second line...)

The second line means you don't have to put any chrome or silver on at all.

I don't have any. My wife's doesn't have any.

There are quite a few that don't have any silver at all.

There are still shots from the movie that show grey patches on different parts of the armor.

That current CRL was just recently finalized. It took over two years to get it done. It was agreed upon by quite a few veteran Kashyyyk Troopers, as well as new up and coming Kashyyyk Troopers, who determined it, as the costume was just beginning to take off.

It's not because "that's how it was originally done."

Like I said, I don't have any chrome at all.

Don't put the chrome on if you don't want to.

The local GML's don't bother reading the CRL's anyway. It seems to be what they think looks best, instead of what was posted.

its wording took a while to work out

the idea is to give the impression that there is a undercoat. You can do it in a layered style, ie the way comm tech has done it or topically ie finishing your cammo job than applying the silver or chrome topically.

The wording also allows for none to be on at all. But if it IS on, then it should NOT be a clearance issue. Unfortunately - individual Garrison GML will be a rule onto themselves. And nothing can seriously be enforced, despite evidence to the contrary.

the silver/chrome showing through is there. How you achieve the look is up to you. We have never stipulated that the layered technique is the only way to go. I have spent 2 years with numerous discussions over that time with various people who have complained abt the lack of a CRL, and then once it was established as to how it wasnt good enough. We can continue arguing ad infinitum about it - as at the end of the day - its image interpretation and there is always variants in how some one sees the same pic.

The CRL is not perfect. BUt it is what it is. And it was agreed to by consensus so that we can all play of the same "standard". Not that the standard is 100% correct, as the lack of a real world item means that we cannot by defination ever be 100%. But it is that standard that we aspire to so that we all look like an standard army, rather than what ever the individual wants it to look like for themselves.

Please note the "chrome, silver, or grey" scratches, weathering, or whatever you wish to call it, on the back of the helmet, and the shoulder bells.

I do like a little added chrome for a little pop. I just finished applying the latex to do masking spots for the chrome and there is WAY less on this paint job, than the last one. THe chrome really gets muted when the matte finish is applied any ways. If it wasn't for the black that I chose to add, it may not have stood out so much. I have learned...I can be taught!!!

My allegiance is to the dark side, not to interested in the Rebel side....not that there is anything wrong with them. If I decide to do something with them I will do a rebel pilot.

If my chrome gave me any more problems, I was going to go without it as well. Will know tomorrow when I spray my first color coat.

KUDOS to you for all the hard work brother! That is a lot of silver paint for what finally amounts

to a little bit of subtle weathering. I have to question why we as a group are still undercoating our

entire suits with chrome. Because that's how it was originally done Is a bad reason to keep doing

it. I think for each others benefit we should discuss not continuing the practise. Im not taking away

from CTs work, its quality.... but I think you are doing work that you don't have to because of a CRL

that IMO is not great.

My .02

Keep up the quality work and effort CT. You had a build thread on the official detachment website:

there's no way you should be having approval issues now. Especially with THIS crazy costume.

Mike

One other reason I like the chrome undercoat is that as my kit wears through the years (hopefully) the chrome will start to show through additional scarring and scratches. Good weathering always comes from excessive use.

Cheers Tim!

THanks for the Offer MIQT, But I sent BC a PM and she is sending me a new set. And no, the under eye decals did not come with my kit and BC said they do not come with.. I made mine out of 1/16" Black Pinstriping and I will do that again.

Thanks again

Tim,

I've just sat & read through the whole thread. All I can say is Kudos to you man, That's some good work there.

I'm busy with my Scout costume just now, but have always wanted to do a Kassyykk Trooper.

Which I plan on doing next, as there is only one over here in Ireland.

So, I know where to come now if I have any queries.

Again fair play to you mate.

Al.

SO I Painted the Camo pattern on today and I went with a softer edge on the camo, which I will agree is much more cannon. So far so good.

While my paint dries, I found my boots were REALLY comfy, But a huge pin in the butt to get on and off becuase of the shin armor. SO I decided to take about 3 inches off of their height. Tried them on and they are really easy to get on and off now. Will probably roll the edge and put a seem on them...eventually

Thanks Alan. Except for repainting, the build was a lot of fun. Good lick with your Scout, I may try to start one of those next year, but I have a Tie Pilot in the works right now. And please feel free to ask any question you have. I or any one of the great guys will gladly help you out.

So the camo is dry on most of the parts (the back tank and the helmet are still not ready yet) so I removed the latex exposing the silver under coat. It is still a bit shiny, but when the flat finish coat is applied, it will really dull the shine down. Problem with this point in the build is waiting for paint to dry so I can do the next coat.

Clear coat is sprayed on all but the back plate and the helmet, waiting for them to dry a little more. While waiting I figured I will take a shot at making a new set of gloves

Thanks guys. All items are done painted and greebs applied. I am just waiting for the weather to clear up a bit so I can airbrush my weathering and then install the lens in the buck..After that it is picture time.

Until the weather clears a little I did some hand weathering on the new silicon straps I molded for the elbows and knees

With the added weathering. Once it is all dry, just need to install the green reflective lens

After taking the rough over spray off the final product came out good. I was a little weary it may have been to dark. My first time with an airbrush. If I had any artistic talent that could be fun.

Cumberbund and pouches all weathered. And me without my cod piece, shameful

The lens is glued into the helmet and drying, around 6pm tonight, I will put on the green reflective tint and I am DONE!!! :D
