comm tech Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 DR, Since they will be grey (when the finished product comes along) you will not need to paint them, except for a little weathering. I plan on doing all of the rubber parts and I plan on pouring them all at the same time so that there is no color variance in a set. 2 elbow straps, 2 knee straps, left bicep pad, left bicep wrap around, belt and maybe even the shoulder straps. I am going to start the knee straps this weekend. I think the belt is going to be the biggest pain, but I have an idea for the molding on that, we'll see if it works.
Death Recon Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 but the belt will still need the squares painted, Im sure whatever your useing (think you said dragon skin) will hold paint better than the originals
comm tech Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 Nice thing is if the belt still wont hold paint, we can use small leather strips glued into the inserts instead of paint.
comm tech Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 I knew I should have poured the plaster mold last night when I had the time...before one of my cats stomped on the clay. Strangely enough, when I asked them which one did it, no one fessed up! Other molds are coming along. When I fix the above sculpt today I will cast this one (or at least put it in a safer place). Then the last thing I will have it the belt.
comm tech Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 So I mixed my silicon and poured into the molds. THe silicone has been tinted grey so I do not have to worry about paint rubbing off anymore. All I have left to do now is mold the belt,,,,gotta get more clay first though. Here are the glove greebs (was not going to pour these, but I mixed too much silicone, so I figured what the heck) and Knee Armor straps The Left bicep Greebs And finally the elbow armor straps
comm tech Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Came home at lunch time for a quick demolding I am not a professional sculptor - never claimed to be. But the straps and greebs look good enough for what I want. I did not want them perfectly smooth and clean looking. I wanted them to have maring and imperfections, looks more battle worn. That being said...here they are. I will trim them when I get home tonight. Grey silicone, no paint required. Be nice , it's my first attempt LOL
comm tech Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 So I trimmed the excess silicone off and I have my set (minus Belt) They really are grey in color. lighting and flash really effects the silicone. A better color shot
comm tech Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 OK that will be one million dollars!
Death Recon Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 how about ONE Canadian dollar? Thats pretty close isnt it? 1
bselphfsu282 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 The pulls are fantastic and thanks so much bro! Brandon just dropped them off last night and unfortunately I'm out of town for the holiday. Man we have got to get your rig finished! Holiday parades are coming up! Thanks again!

Brandon just dropped them off last night and unfortunately I'm out of town for the holiday. Man we have got to get your rig finished! Holiday parades are coming up! Thanks again! No Problem Brent, I know the glove greebs are a bit (alot grey) but I just overestimated the CC's needed to do the pours, I 've got it down now though. So you may never need or use them, but at least you have a spare.
comm tech Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 This was my Kashyyyk Trooper which I love. But my GML did not like the fact that was black on the outside of the Chrome (silver) so I have to repaint it. I was contemplating just using it for cons, but I really want to troop in it. So Everything is back to primer. SIGH Trying to get it done for Star Wars Weekends 1
Grumpy Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Looks good to me...but, what do I know? I'm not a GML. (Look at the CRL's people.) Should have just painted the silver scrapes with black to make blaster "carbon scoring" marks, instead of taking it back to primer. PM sent, also
gerald Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You mean so u sharped "damage" edges with black?weird well i would add some "dirt' over all those damages to make em looks some "older" but there should be more 'dirt " on edges dirt always sit in such places :/ talk with him maybe adding some more dirt or wash over armour could convince him instead sanding it to primer

PM sent, also He was also questioning the black ...Ie in reference pics ?

Apparently this time I do
comm tech Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 It is going good got everything with a chrome coat again. Tomorrow I will mask spots with latex and start my final coats Friday Then I will have the weekend to work on the camo. I think this will come out really good this time. It has to , cause I ain't painting this again.
gerald Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 eh ,some of GMl-srealy have weird ideas :)so if You cover that black shades with chrome he will say its ok ,in my opinion now it looks alot mre realistic
comm tech Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 eh ,some of GMl-srealy have weird ideas :)so if You cover that black shades with chrome he will say its ok ,in my opinion now it looks alot mre realistic Thanks Gerald. Here is what it looks like now LOL Of course, minus the tie pilot helmet.
gerald Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 looks nice just realy shame so You got so much additional work now You'll be done good surely :)ahm if You want also join rebels check with them about that chrome ,they asked me if i have any "shining" chrome damages ,and i heard other people got trouble with that also.
miqt Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 KUDOS to you for all the hard work brother! That is a lot of silver paint for what finally amounts to a little bit of subtle weathering. I have to question why we as a group are still undercoating our entire suits with chrome. Because that's how it was originally done Is a bad reason to keep doing it. I think for each others benefit we should discuss not continuing the practise. Im not taking away from CTs work, its quality.... but I think you are doing work that you don't have to because of a CRL that IMO is not great. My .02 Keep up the quality work and effort CT. You had a build thread on the official detachment website: there's no way you should be having approval issues now. Especially with THIS crazy costume. Mike
