I had my sticky paws on it for ten minutes then my wife took it all away to be wrapped up for Christmas ( bah Humbug...!)

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!

And also the saddest! :(

Brilliant!

They look great. Maybe a little on the large size but I think you can pull it off.

Hey Daz one thing that has just occured to me is the positioning of the pouches i think they are gonna be a little high up mate??

If you imagine they sit in between the knee armour and the drop boxes and the drop boxes come down from the belt your pic shows them almost level to where the cod armour will go i know your shorter than me so this might account for why there on there like this ??? personaly mine never went on untill i was wearing the the Cod/Knee and drop boxes so i could gauge the distance ;-)

just a thought bud

Yep Dan, you may have apoint there mate. They could foul on the side pouches.

No worries. It they do I'll either have them moved down a little, or take an inch off the total hieght of the pockets.

Another question folks ( yep, I'm a pain I know ;) ).

How does the position and size of the riding patch look in the following pics. These are just fabric templates pinned into place at the moment, so nothing is sewn yet.

Boxing Day update.....!

Opened up the back vent slots by chain drilling and filing.

A quick question.......

The large 'ear' openings. Does anyone have a closeup pic they could post so I know how far to file them open.

Cheers.

i just take a pencil and trace out the section and trim it out. try to let the side of the helmt go into the vent as much as possible. does that make sense??

Posted

Yeah, that makes sense Tom, thanks.

Been doing a bit of bondoing and sanding this afternoon

Filled the main surface marks.....

and gave it all a coat of filler/primer, then rubbed down again to smooth some of the minor marks.

( kinda looks like it's been left outside in Tatooine  ).

Update 27th December

I've cut out the ear holes and done several more stages of bondo, fillerprimer and wet sanding. I think that the surface is pretty much ready for the proper primer coat.

I love the updates, I'm waiting for my armor to make its way to me then I will have to catch up to you.

Looking good Darren. I like the way you cut out the back vents and your ear slots look appear to be right on the money!!! ;)

Fun, isn't it?

The helmet was my favorite part to work with. B)

Cheers guys. Great to have feedback from people who've made these in the past.

Another update 28th Dec.

Another stage of rubbing down and a coat of primer. Looking a little better, but the primer has shown up some more surface blemishes, so another lot of filling, rubbing and primer to go ;)

Next job will be the slot in the top of the visor.

Whilst out shopping I came across a company I'd never heard of who do aerosol acrylic paints. One of em' I thought was a possible contender as a match for the base coat.

I've given the lid a few coats to see what you guys think. Is it close enough? It looks a little 'yellow' in my kitchen lights. I've taken one with a flash, one without.

Obviously it'll look a bit different once the green and brown are painted on, had a green wash and a dusting of black. Interested in your thoughts folks.

I think you're right mate. Perhaps a tad on the yellow side?? If you go for the current UK colour match though mate, speak to Heatshock/Nate. I had tons left over and sent it up to him. There'll be plenty for you to use too I'd imagine. ;)

Cheers Andrew, but I may not need it :D

In a hardware store searching for somthing completely non-related when I came across a colour of Rustoleum that I hadn't seen before ( Fossill ). I've learn't my lesson now and allways carry Tom's colour sample sheet around with me. Guess what........I think we have a winner.

See what you guys think.
