mrbill8128
Ok, I think i have the picture uploads working, so it's time to get started. As I mentioned in my introduction thread, I'm coming back from retirement and starting this new project. Currently, I am working on trimming all of the pieces of my KS bucket. Take a look so far and fire away with the feedback .Nothing is connected yet. I only taped the pieces to get a feel for it.Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk

mrbill8128
I just re-read the CRL and missed that ear mesh is not acceptable. So I should remove mine, yes? Do most people paint the inside black? Also, can someone link me the product for the proper 3M covers? I'm assuming that these won't qualify as acceptable?Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
Retrofire
Hi William. You are correct. Ear mesh is not acceptable for the helmet. Some folks paint it and some even use black gaffers tape to line around the middle of the helmet so no white shows through the ears. Mine is painted but it's up to you as long as the white is covered. For the helmet bolts as long as it meets the CRL then they'll be acceptable. If you are interested the bolts we recommend for accuracy can be found via this link: https://www.amazon.com/Fibre-Metal-Honeywell-FM4001-Quick-Lok-Adapter/dp/B002BUMS8Y/ref=psdc_7491811011_t1_B015MG1SMK I would also like to recommend, if you already haven't, that you reach out to your local Garrison. They will be the ones that will approve your costume and application into the 501st. Since you're in eastern PA that would be Garrison Carida and you can visit their forums via this link https://501stgarrisoncarida.org/ There you will find additional resources for joining and get put in touch with troopers in your area. @Aradun is a member of that Garrison and one of our great armorers and he can help you with getting set up with Carida if you need it. You're doing great so keep up the nice work and keep posting those good questions!
mrbill8128
I see that the inlay for the snout recess has to be painted matte black -- no decals. So I painted the inlay and the respirator sections. Not perfect (the tape didn't seal as well as I wanted) but not terrible. Let me know your thoughts. Chopper
That should work just fine.
mrbill8128
Ok, I hit my first temporary roadblock. I can't seem to cut the visor shape out. This thing is very thick -- much thicker than anything I had with my TK. I can't seem to cut through it with my dremel or my Lexan scissors. And I haven't found a good post on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
mrbill8128
Decided to purchase a flexible welder's piece like a lot of people seem to use. Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
Chopper
Good call. You should be able to cut the welder's shield with a pair of lexan scissors.

mrbill8128
Someone yell at me if I'm posting too much! I'm waiting for the 3M rivets and my replacement lens, so I decided to work on the other end of the bucket. I painted the inside black (for the ears) and attached the back and cap. These things aren't quite a wonky as the TK bucket, but they're still wonky. Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
Retrofire
Not at all. Post away! It's WIPs like this that helps and encourages folks that come behind you. Wonky is good, within reason, look at the film scouts in the Scoutopedia and you'll see what I mean. Keep up the great work and reach out should you need anything.
Aradun
You’re making great progress on that bucket Bill. Looks good.
mrbill8128
Question: the KS kit does not come with a chin strap. Since the strap isn't in the CRL, can I add any kind of strap?Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
Chopper
The screen used chin strap used with the cup was just a piece of elastic. However, if it is not outwardly visible then you can do whatever works for you.
mrbill8128
More progress. I mounted the visor to the faceplate. The replacement lens came it too. So I shaped it and attempted to mount it in with E6000. I'll see how it sets overnight. I only glued part of each side like the KS video recommended. Chopper
FYI, E6000 may not work so well for mounting the lens. If it doesn't work for you, most people use hot glue on the inside, along the sides of the lens.

If it doesn't work for you, most people use hot glue on the inside, along the sides of the lens. I didn't think of that. On a cool setting to avoid warping the faceplate, correct? I'll try that if the E6000 fails. Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
Aradun
Using a regular hot glue gun should be fine. The glue shouldn’t be an issue for the ABS or lens. If your glue gun does have a setting then you can set it so that it’s just hot enough for the glue to disperse. Mine does not, and I’ve used it to mount my lens to my ABS faceplate on two occasions without issue. Of course you don’t want to press the tip of the gun against the ABS to be safe.
mrbill8128
First big setback, but nothing that can't be overcome. The lens is secure in place, so I decided to attach the front and back sections together. I bought the 3M joints, so I made the appropriate cutouts and put it all together. Sadly, as careful as I was, it didn't come together correctly. I remember that happening with my TK bucket too. So I ended up with 3 holes on one side and two on the other. Thankfully, they can't be seen! I'll probably glue some spare ABS pieces over the holes at some point. I'm still cleaning up the curve of the visor so that it raises all the way. As always, let me know your thoughts .Sent from my SM-G990U2 using Tapatalk
