Tarok’s Remnant/Mando Scout [Approved]

Recommended Posts

Boots:

I antagonised long and hard over this, but after being convinced that making scout boots is not particularly difficult by @M.J and @Dragon_a, I thought I'd give it a go. @cheesewhoopy's Biker Scout Boots Tutorial is amazing, and should be everyone's go to if they're considering making their own boots.

I think the photos are somewhat self-explanatory, but ask if there are questions. The donor boots were just a cheap pair of work boots from Big-W (an Aussie K-Mart style store).

Sewing vinyl is somewhat daunting. Against the advice of the local haberdashery place, we (my patient partner) elected to use the standard machine needle, although we used a heavy duty cotton thread. We also chose not to go out a splash a fortune on a special "foot". One of the challenges we (and by "we" I mean "she", as I was just there to provide moral support, coffee and snacks) had, was that the vinyl would pull strangely when sewing.

I had created a few different sized template for the "dog bone" strap, and eventually settled on scaling it to 150%.

I added some velcro to where the holster would be fitted to provide extra holding power. This was set about an inch (25mm) in from the edge of the holster and is not visible in the slightest once the holster was fitted. (@Dragon_a and I are letting my partner think it was her idea, but we both know where the suggestion originated ;)

The various parts were glued together using Shoe-goo, and then dry-brushed with artist oils. The boots aren't perfect, but I feel they're good enough.

You did a good job!

I've made five of the dam things, helping another as we speak.

I submitted my approval photos last night. TBH I wasn't too happy with them (a few late nights for the missus and I) - may retake them over the weekend.

A few personal observations, which I consider dressing issues:

  • The biceps need either to be velcro'ed into position or padded to prevent slipping
  • Ditto the knees
  • Remember to pull balaclava over chin
  • pull yer gut in! 🤣

I think you're fussing over the details more than they ever did on the show!

You look good.  You got this.

Thanks @BikerScout007

Really appreciate that!

Btw, if there anyway to find out whether there are any other approved Mando Scouts in Australia?
