  1. Well we're def not saying we don't want newbies to be part of the community here. What we're saying is having a vendor pop up, and post in the trade section that they have an item to sell, or have an ongoing run, with out being validated by either their time in the community (which could equal post count) or a product that's been tested and can be validated by other 501st members (such as lead times, quality, etc). We're doing this primarily to protect you, the newbies, from getting taken, and also for other members as well. I can tell you that I bought a nice pair of esprit gloves on here in the trade section when I was a newbie. Yeah, I wouldn't have had the chance had I been locked out. This is just a forum to gauge what you all think, and we'll take from that and form our policy based off of your thoughts. So everyone's thoughts and opinions are valuable to us. We could have just instituted a policy, but we wanted to know how everyone felt, and work from there. This will be a process that in the end, will protect everyone from hopefully getting scammed (not saying anyone is) or receiving poor quality products. We want our detachment to be the best dressed in the legion after all. And we do have an "Ask the Armorer" section where potential scouts and KTs can ask about things. Not only armorers and CS answer those questions, but other members do to. This is one of the most helpful communities I've been a part of. If anyone, and I mean anyone has questions, feel free to ask any of us.
  2. Just remember, we're not going to fault you for using the parts supplied. Almost everyone uses what comes with the kit. If your goal is Lancer, then you shouldn't have a problem with what you have. What part of Florida are you in, Chris? I would say hit up a local troop. If you're not signed up on the Florida Garrison boards, do so and then come handle, check out a scout or two in costume. Get some advice from other scouts. If you're going to MegaCon in March there should be some scouts there you can check out and ask advice from, including me.
  3. The MC kit should come with the tubing. Did it not? You could always check with MC or even e-mail SC to see if they can supply you with just the tubing.
  4. You don't want it too low. Just above the knees. Check out build threads. I know there was a thread on here somewhere showing a nice pattern.
  5. As far as sizes go, KS gives you the most room, then it starts going down a long the lines of MLC and SC.
  6. Velcro is the cure all for slippage lol. Adding a snap, or as Chef would say, a popper, just adds to the security.
  7. Looks like you're in good hands with this. Look forward to seeing your progress.
  8. Yeah pretty much what Barry said. Other then switching out the snout and bolt covers, you did a good job. Def troop worthy.
  9. Trooperbay, moncal..those are the better ones.
  10. Thanks everyone. And yes, Andi is a great guy, and his passion for the costume was always high, and his professionalism was top notch, and I'm glad to count him as a friend. I wish him nothing but the best and hope that he comes home (to us) soon.
  11. Big Chex? Thanks Marcel and John. Looking forward to this position, and continuing to make this detachment the best in the legion!
  12. Or you could get a sautering iron and poke a hole in the webbing. The nylon should melt and will not tear.
  13. As of right now..no to the neck seal.
  14. You can always heat it up a little as well.
  15. To be honest, I usually use CA glue with a little bit of kicker. Just make sure you have everything in place when you glue with CA or Ambroid lol. E6000 still gives a little time for minor adjustments.
  16. That looks hella cool. Look forward to more pics.
  17. Looks good so far. Interesting points too, Rob.
  18. It's been a pleasure this year, getting to know everyone better and seeing this costume progress to the point to where I think we have one of the best looking in the Legion. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the Pathfinders near and far, and SO happy knowing that there will be lots of KTs in the future.
  19. Will you hurry up and finish your scout, please?
  20. In the past it would be approvable, but not now. The vest needs to be separate. This is the suit I got approved on, and I cut off the vest sleeves when I got a vest from LSFU. I did have a friend who he made a suit for and didn't incorporate the sleeves on when they requested that..but I'm not sure if he would do that for everyone. He needs to just change it now and not include them since standards have changed. The suit does fit good though..has done me good with a lot of troops.
  21. Yep, what Terry said. The washer def helps and the sautering should keep anything from tearing. Brew, make sure you cover up the holes that you pull the rivets out of. Will prolly require you to paint the belt once you're done.
  22. SC holster and KS blaster, and it fits snug. Never have had a problem with it falling out..just weighing it down. But like Jim said, I try to keep it in my hand as much as possible.
  23. Pretty much what Jim said. There's not much we can do here, and the only way we know is by people posting up. But in the end it's up to you to report back on your experience.
  24. Def trim the ears out some more. Something just seems odd about the snout..I don't know if the grey is too dark, or the black around it isn't symmetrical enough. The fish hook..is that a square sticker with a fish hook on it? It's not bad, and a great first try. I would say those bolts would have to changed out before clearance, but Lancer will require a lot more work, or a new bucket all together when the time comes.
