  1. John, Helmet looks awesome Just wondering, as their is no other TB helmet out their in the prop community built the same as a original helmet and yours being the first replica helmet so close to the original helmet - what's your thoughts on how strong is the helmet is once glued together? also still interested in a kit BTW
  2. try this http://www.starwarshelmets.com/biker_scout_comparisons.htm
  3. great progress BTW - I'm waiting for some good weather to spray my helmet glue the lense into place with a hot glue gun, superglue is to runny and will run over the visor....and will ruin it to glue the snout detail on use a product called Evostick - a brown glue, I find super glue ok but it gets brittle after a period of time. Evostick takes a little while to cure but lasts along time and is really good glue for sticking material on hiking boots to make the scout boots http://www.bostik.co.uk/diy/product/evo-stik/Impact/6
  4. I would recommend giving your lid a light wet sand to make sure your first layer of paint sticks to the lid and has a good surface to stick too. Also I would recommend if your spraying your helmet with a spray can leave it in a bowl of hot water, this will enable the paint to be more fluid and give a smoother finish. But the paint will tend to run allot easier when warmed up.
  5. 1) Does the MLC helmet come primed but not painted, or do you need to prime it also? The photos that MLC sent me look to be primed, but I never thought to ask the question. MLC helmets come preprimed and also if requested pre-painted white, the pre-primed MLC lids need little prep i.e wet sanding, you may find you need to do some wet sanding in the internal curves of the visor I wet sanded all of my MLC helmet and pre-primed it again with white primer, awaiting to finish the lid off with the final gloss white I bought from a DIY store pics of my MLC helmet so far 2) I was lucky enough to snag an MC snout piece from a fellow BSN member, which of course means I will need to paint it. I am limited to only a few different kinds of Krylon paint. Is there a specific color/code paint that folks use for the grey to match the decals? I used Gamesworkshop paints - chaos black and a grey one I can't remember what grey it was 3) Same goes for the black around the snout...will an acrylic model paint work? Should I paint that whole part and then cover it with the snout peice? see above comment 4) I have figured I will need a lens, some screen to cover the vent holes, and some magnets/velcro to keep the lid closed. Is there anything else? Maybe some padding for the inside? you could use a hard hat liner or some construction knee pad inserts 5) Finally, I am told the shade 5 lens is the one to get, and the "black" effect it gives comes painting the inside of the helmet black. Is that really the best or only option? I replaced my Don Post Lense with shade 5 and did'nt need to paint the inside of the lid Anyway I am sure that is enough for now. Thanks again for the help...the more I can get at the store and the more questions I can get answered now the faster I can get to work when my helmet arrives!!!
  6. Well IMAO it's looks like a copy of the Don Post scout helmet if you look at the back of the helmet, look at the very bottom of the helmet their seems to be a flat spot. This area is where the Don Post rectangular raised labels have been removed before cast a copy of the helmet. Also another give away is where the helmet visour/faceplate joins the main body of the helmet near the vent hole, these don line up smoothly and the main body of the helmet sticks pasts the face plate - similar problem on the DP helmets But overall the finish of the helmet looks good. IMAO I've not dealt with the seller and don't know enough to make judgement on what they are like, best keep with a helmet supplier that allot of people have dealt with in the past i.e SC, KS, MLC (v3.0) or buy a DP or Rubbies and mod it yourself I've got a DP & MLC v1.0 helmet in my collection, if you get stuck just PM for advice
  7. cyber scout, thanks for the reply to my question, on my TK project I used some glue from B&Q - must of been the wrong stuff I used as it caused the plastic to melt/warp Fingers crossed I'll be able to get one of these kits from John to add to my scout collection
  8. Kit looks brilliant, I sent you John a PM yesterday -did you get it? Progress pics look good BTW - what glue did you use? as I know some glues cause the plastic to wrap and melt
  9. you luckly toe rag look forward in seeing how the kit turns out
  10. hi CB The original detail on the helmet vents look like they did pull very well when vac formed. My suggestion is to cut the holes out and place a bit of plastic secured fixed inside the helmet where the vent area is and bondo the vent details holes i.e external side that you look at to give them a more softer look like the original. i hope you get the gist of what I'm saying I go for the semi square look
  11. Christian so far its looking good, with some more tweaks and alterations your going to have one sweat looking lid looking forward in seeing the final finished pics of the lid
  12. rich it's turned out really good.
  13. hi chris try ebay or try a local car window tinting company
  14. I'd suggest saving for a decent helmet and costume parts, cheaper in the long run as you'll be thinking about upgrading once your costume is finished...just like what I'm hopefully planning to do this year i.e UKscout v2.0. I'd suggest do your homework first and plan your costume i.e. make a wish list and start getting the easy items first which will help i.e. boots, Tbits tank top etc.... always ask questions even if there really stupid ones, the more info you get the better the build will be.
  15. hi rich you'll find a good undersuits on ebay - black flight suit from the usa or you may find someone on here that will make you one. I've used Gamesworkshop paints in the past for all my prop projects for the lense you could use clear plastic and tint it with car window tint Snout part, tank top detail and thermal det details are on ebay as I type
  16. looksgood so far, but take your time and break down the build into small stages / targets Keith on the RPF mentioned about putting the spray cans in hot water for a bit to warm up the paint inside the spray cans might be worth considering I think the rubbies helmets where made from the same molds Don Post? Jez from SW Helmets may have some info. I do recall somewhere that DP had to alter their molds making some minor tweaks to the over scale of their helmets so they where not 100% accurate
  17. Andy, I bought this GREEN FACE SHIELD / WELDING AND CUTTING VISOR NEW ebay sellar - http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/ths-etrade/ hope it helps
  18. Andy I bought off ebay a green protective face shield for my BH project It came with the correct hard hat adjustable lining and also the correct bolts, I'll check my ebay account and let you know
  19. one word - lush when can I get one but seriously can I buy that one ?
  20. I think for any TB fan this helmet would be good to be in anyone's collection. Yep their may be some very minor tweaks to be done but your not going to get it 100% accurate TB helmet unless you recast a screen used one. And the chances of that happening is going to be like winning the lottery. Overall it's going to be another good helmet option out their in the prop world, better than nothing i say.
  21. FYI The MLC helmet was based off a spare Don Post helmet that I sent too MLC as I wanted a decent scout helmet too troop in, when I trooped for a few years with the UKG. BTW nice looking new lid tho' LW would be interested in one once the final tweaks have been done
  22. if anyone has detailed pics of the barc helmet snout part i could offer my services in getting it 3d modeled and made if you like for free
