  1. hi Lou as far as I'm aware the part has never been identified, as the snout part was kit bashed some people seam to think that its a part/end of a tap called a faucet. I've also thought it could be from an old hand held mirco phone or a mic tip from a plane as allot of items from star wars where parts from disused planes I'll dig out what I've and upload the pics soon
  2. Keith - outstanding job!!! I like that your using water slide decals as have always thought that most of the decals on the helmet where water slide. can't wait to see more updates me want me want me want
  3. looks good mark, how long did it take to get too this stage? also we must meet up at the next elstree event for a pint chap you may want to look for a satin white or gloss and flatten it off a bit with a bit of misting from black and grey spray here's a pic/link to my photo's of Steve Stansweet's old helmet which is now owned by the owner of the prop store http://www.warnoeuk.f9.co.uk/ROTJ/SSa/ you may want to see Jez's vid doc on the helmet also this will give a better idea of the final colours hope it help
  4. great job in getting rid of the seam looking forward in seeing more progress shots
  5. try using Choas Black, paints from Gamesworkshop
  6. looking good is this the new SC kit?
  7. Bloody awesome !!!
  8. Great update Matt, shame they cant back form the visor shield out of one sheet of plastic? Size wise how dose it compare to other fan and license helmets?
  9. looks really good Keith, can't wait to see some more updates back of the helmet looks spot on with the screen used SS/Prop Store Helmet http://www.warnoeuk.f9.co.uk/ROTJ/SSa/ROTJ-ORG-Scout-Ca.bmp
  10. just listened too the Gino interview regarding the biker scout helmet which was good BTW - just a few issues with the interview 1.DP didn't make one or two deluxe helmets they made only made 25 FG deluxe scout helmets as they only fulfilled 25 orders as the demand for these where very low. below is a pic from the DP catalog that I own showing the DP Delux helmet I was the person who found out about DP only making 25 deluxe helmets after I made contact with a owner of an original DP deluxe helmet, after some lengthy research I then passed these contact details onto Jez who made contact with the owner and posted the photo's and info on his web site http://www.starwarshelmets.com/Don_Post_Biker%20Scout_Helmets.htm 2. they went too the Lucas film archives and got "most of the moulds" - sounds like some of the original moulds are missing/destroyed or lost from over the years. And they had too mould parts from another original helmet - I wonder how some collectors will respond to this. I would want too see some photo evidence that they copied parts from donor helmet, this now explains why only one side of the wooden moulds have been shown on other forums. 3. visor and chin cup where sculpted from another donor helmet from the archives - so the helmet on show is a mixture of two helmets. my question is are the donor parts from a screen used helmet? 3. no mention of any fan made helmets - (MLC, KS or LW) 4. the main reason EFX go to china is that they are cheap and quick at what they do - my god china is a main producer of most every day items we use and buy. I know EFX was born out of some original staff from Master Replicas which is not a problem but even these MR produced replicas made from FG have flaws in them. I own 3 1:1 scale helmets and all have some minor issues with the FG i.e. low spots and high spots in the final FG cast can be clearly seen. I just hope fans like me and other members on several other forums of the scout helmet don't get ripped off and also have too pay high shipping fees as it's been several years since a high quality collectable scout helmet has been made and it's about time the Scout helmet gets some consideration as it's possibly the best helmet from the three original films.
  11. The helmet on the right is the scout helmet Steve Stansweet used too own, which now is in the hands of the uk prop store collection The "eye sag" I call it is soft on the EFX compared to the original? It will be interesting too see this helmet next too a MLC, Altmann, DP at LW to compare them to size and overall shape I wonder if EFX have tweaked the final helmet molds so it's not 100% accurate? I know this is a urban myth in the prop community that Lucas has asked other liecense makers to alter their own molds so the product is not 100% accurate.
  12. once I get my grubby little hands on one I'll be dirtying it up and getting rid of the clean look
  13. some more pics I've found guys - please comment on what u all think link to the photo's here http://www.rebelscum.com/2012/2012_SDCC_eFX_Collectibles/default.asp did EFX poorly cast of the snout part? - unless they cast it from the original part that was poorly made for the helmet. But from the photo's I've seen of a screen used helmet the snouts used where pretty good casts. final colour and finish looks realy good looks like EFX have cut the ear vents out but have painted the helmet black inside
  14. how much was the EFX X-wing helmet as this would give a good idea on what the scout lid may cost
  15. can anyone attending SDCC in a scout costume get pics of their own helmet next to the EFX please
  16. guys these photo's do it justice, if EFX fix the fiber glass on the inside of the scout visor I may have to get one the colours of the paint job look spot on
  17. Looks good, just need to bondo the helmet and start sanding I take it the visor won't go up?
  18. what u should do next is get some masking tape and dry assemble the helmet together using masking tape or duct tape to see how the helmet will fit together. Have a pencil handy and mark on the areas you think need a bit more trimming or sanding
  19. It would be good to get some info from the son of DP and the maker of the Altmanns helmets. I know Altmanns gave up on making helmets due to his son or family member who sadly died. Allot of fan sculpts have been created from scratch using photo's etc... or taken from DP or Altmann helmet so the fan made helmets will never be 100% accurate. Allot of other SW helmets have be cast from some sort of original helmet i.e. stormtroopers and to this day no scout helmets have been cast from original - which is a shame. When or if EFX release the scout lid this will be closet copy to an original apart being made from FG. NUMBER OF VENTS ON THE REAR OF THE HELMETS my theory why some of the helmets had 8 vents or 9 vents on the rear of the helmets is probably due to the 1st vent being quite close to the seam line where the two half's of the cap are joined together (see pic below of a unfinished helmet) and could of been filled in by the prop maker when these where being made. Still think that LW helmet is the closet looking to the original helmets even tho' it's not made from one.
  20. the above pic of my snout was sprayed grey then painted black with a brush if that helps
  21. Guys i know that AA did not make the original helmets but saw this pic from this weekends open day at his studio in London
  22. I 'be this weekend got back from visiting Elstree Studios and was catching up on the AA open day and noticed from photos I've seen a scout lid is in a few pics? Is AA going to be making scout lids? Sent him a message via. FB
  23. hi Rob why not and try and get a MLC v3? I'm not sure if MLC still makes the v1 as far as lancer status I'm not sure best ask one of the staff if it will be accepted as Lancer.
  24. hi Matt are you saying the mystery lid you have is a recast from a MLC v1.0? blimey didn't realise some had recasted it @John - great work in modding the CB helmet it looks really close to the screen used helmet. we must get MLC too give us a break down on what he did from v1 to v3 also must get my MLC v1.0 finished this summer
