  1. @Matt - great thread @John - if you want to compare your LW lid against my own Altmann lid please kindly post me your lid too.... MLC dose make seriously good helmets and where one of the best lids to have either in your own collection or to troop in Altmann's and DP both had a original screen used helmet sent to them to enable them to reproduce their own version of the ROTJ helmet. But I recall LFL/Lucas requested that the helmets they made where slightly different to the originals i.e. scale and and overall shape to prevent exact copies of the originals being sold and that fans had a diluted copy. DP did do a good run of these helmets, wish I had one of the 25 delux versions but these are very rare. Rubbies manufactured the scout helmet and produced poor copies of the DP lid due to poor selection of material used to form these helmets. My personal take on the Prop Store lid is that it could of been a "stunt" helmet hence it's poor condition, in my personal view but due to the low numbers of scout costumes made i.e 25 these could of been all "hero" helmets? anyway good to see another comparison thread
  2. Great to see another scout lid being made/developmed Would not use thinner plastic too vac form the helmet as it would weaken the helmet Cant wait for the next update on this helmet
  3. hi Verne, Helmet looks good so far from what I've viewed you may want to look at the following ~ will you use a sheets of pinseal when vac forming? ~ the front nose i.e. where the snout detail fits in needs to be crisper - this might be achieved by sanding ~ the gap line between the helmet and the side visor could be closer and last...when can I get my hands on one
  4. Photo of the Chaos Black I used on my snout
  5. Ive used gamesworkshop paints really good and easy to use
  6. @John - do you use a white under coat? or Grey undercoat?
  7. looks good Jules all the effort in getting the helmet done has paid off.........wish I had a LW helmet
  8. Glad you finally got a Altmann lid Matt, I saw the final bids for the Altmann helmet on ebay and could not see how it sold for nearly $700 I'm glad another BSN member was able to help you out
  9. If EFX are to produce the lid in FG, I think that this can't be called a "legend" helmet it may be from the original moulds but is far from being like the screed used helmets The original helmets where pulled from plastic, the only reason EFX want to propose to use FG is due cheap production costs and high return in profits from the production of these lids in FG Doing this will not give the true fans an true linage to the screen used films which saddens and concerns me If you look back what MR produced over the years - the helmets I've got in my collection are far from perfect with regards final FG finish. The FG clone trooper helmets I've got have several dips and low points in the surface of the lids. So this gives me concerns in the final finished product for the upcoming EFX scout helmet Most fan made helmets are far better finished than some mass produced SW products If EFX are to make copies of screed used helmets they should make these are they where produced in the films. I'm looking forward in seeing what EFX do - listen to the fans/customers of their products or think of the profits they can make from us - proof will be in the pudding
  10. John, outstanding work matey seriously want one of these instead of the upcoming EFX lid
  11. here's another thread i found with comparisson pics of a screen used helmet against an MLC lid http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=6540
  12. Matt here's a link too MLC photo album of work which will give you an idea of his great work http://www.printroom.com/ViewAlbum.asp?userid=mlcallanta&album_id=219518
  13. hi Matt click on the below link, it will show you one of the first MLCv1 helmets in my collection - sadly not finished yet, v2 and v3 where upgrades and tweaks that MLC did to the helmet over the years by giving it a more screen used look. Basically I asked MLC to make me a better helmet too troop in as I did not like my DP that I was using - then other board members wanted the helmet. The MLC v1 was from damage DP helmet I sent too MLC which he tweaked http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.63443710973.84047.731015973&type=3&l=4f9684f544
  14. ukscout, so I would consider you as the father and MLC as the mother who gave birth on the MLCV1,2,3 LOL, no just a star wars geek who likes scout troopers and wanted other fans of the scout to have a better helmet when trooping at events
  15. okay I've managed to source some actual snout parts used to make the original snout detail i.e. model kit parts. Last night I put this part from a kit I've recently bought from Japan up againsts my Altmann helmet and realised that the Altmann snout detail looks like is not cast from a screen used helmet but instead looks like it's been made from scratch as the size and details are way off. So it's got me thinking that was the Altmann helmet cast and modified from a screen used helmet? starting to think it may of not been following the other non accurate star wars helmets Steve Altmann made over the years. I've post comparison pics soon
  16. Jules - how are the seams/joints holding up on the helmet once glued and filled? Would love to see some more pics
  17. looks good berry - could do with a clearer photo but it's a good start did you use a matt spray? to do the misting?
  18. look good - looking forward in seeing your 1st pull to enable a proper comments on how they vacformed
  19. can't see why these would not pass lancer status - possibly closet base boot to use apart from the originals your probably going to get look good so far
  20. totally love the LW helmet looks really good and must get a kit   The headband supplier wellington welding i used too drive by every day to get too work and is only 30min drive from where i live thanks for the heads up may get one this week
  21. good lid but depends what your budget is for creating a scout costume, for another $100 you could get a kit helmet which is a little more accurate and you have the fun of making the lid
  22. highly recommend SC, bought mine several years ago and the guys where very helpful pic of me still on the site http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/bikerscout/images/neil_2002_scout.jpg
  23. FYI the MLC lids origin is from a DP helmet I sent MLC as I wanted a more robust helmet for trooping in as i went thro 2 don post helmets whilst trooping at events over the years..... then the MLC helmets where born pics of these helmets will be on here soon once I put the xmas tree away in the loft
  24. posted some pics of my son Brin (5ys old) wearing my Altmann helmet. Matt - sadly I'm not selling this lid Also the cap and ear section I call the wrap with the ear vents has been glued and riveted together which until now I did'nt realise that the Altmann helmets where constructed this way here's a photo of gap between the dome cap and the ear vent wrap section photo of the rear of the helmet side view of the Altmann helmet with a MR Boba helmet to give you an idea of scale of the scout helmet photo of my son Brinley wearing the lid at an angle so the orange/brown visor lens can be seen
