@Griffin-X - thanks for the comments I prefer to share what I know with everyone, no point hoarding info @Katscan - they are doing a kit version which will be cheaper, by how much I don't know but its a great idea by RS Props @Darth Voorhees - from what Simon told me yesterday the LW helmet is really close to scale and detail as the proto-type they bought from the prop store - hats off to LW in creating a helmet that is so close to the original. Going to be interesting in seeing how these stand up over time when trooping at events, my trooping days with the 501st are over lol

Back in Nov 2014 I got to see an early proto type of the RS scout helmet at the NEC Memorabilia event Yesterday I got to see the final painted version in person that RS have moulded off the proto-type helmet they bought from the Prop Store last rear. RS have vac formed the helmet from pinseal and have constructed the helmet in the same methods as the original. I'm happy to report the helmet has no fibre glass parts The helmet overall shape and look is really good and the helmet itself is very light in weight compared to the MLG, Altmans and Don Post helmets I personally own. From my discussions with RS is that two versions will be available (i) signature edition & (ii) kit version for us prop builders. The seam along the top of the helmet and back where filled in with some sort of abs bumper filler whilst looking at the top of the helmet the seam couldn't be seen by could be felt by passing your hand over. The helmet was painted a matt/silk white with matt black spray marks to represent carbon burns similar to what some of the helmets where like in ROTJ. The inside of the helmet had also the strips of pinseal along the inside seam. Whilst visiting the Star Wars Fun Fan Day event held in Burnley UK another RS Scout helmet was on display with Dickee Beer who was signing. I managed to get a photo with Dickee and the RS helmet

if you need help with the producing the 3d CAD let me know as I use cad at work and shouldn't be difficult to replicate

But the Lonewolf scout helmet on display even tho unfinished looked amazing as I've not seen one in person before, hats of to John in creating a sweet looking scout helmet

yep sorry guys forgot to mention it was a LW helmet on display which is a bit naughty your correct Chef, they did say the price was going to be around the £400 price mark can't remember if that included a signed plaque by D.Beer on the plus side it's going to be all plastic

I've been put off buying anything from EFX due to the wait times and also the costs of the final product fingers crossed for anyone who has bought/ordered one, remember the good old days of MR helmet order taking 18months once the order was placed.

glad to see MLC is still making these great scout helmets and getting good response from fellow scouts members been several years since I've had any contact with MLC since he started v1 several years ago, can anyone PM me his contact details please would love to catch up with him again

Well attended my last convention on Saturday for 2014 and had a nice surprise when I visited the RS Prop Masters display area, got some personal items signed by Richard Bonehill and noticed a primed Biker Scout helmet. Spoke to Simon from RS Prop Masters and he confirmed that they are looking into developing a screen accurate scout helmet Here's a pic of a scout helmet they had on display which I took using my iphone hence the poor image quality, looking forward in future updates from RS on this helmet

will be visiting the prop on display after LFCC and will be taking loads of pics

yep it's a great image and is long overdue a friend of mine is looking into the who are the guys in the picture, hopefully we will get some info soon which I'll share. he seems to think that the person on the left is Mike Fulmer a ILM SFX crew member Pandatrooper - your correct Nilo Rodis was the creator of the scout costume/helmet but it would be awesome if you could contact him if possible? if you do please send me a message

hi Guys just wanted to share an image that has arisen on facebook of one of the original helmets being made. I've now asked a few guys who are the SFX crew in this picture hopefully these guys are still around and would be willing to ask few questions regarding the helmet but from the pic you can clearly see the faceplate seems to be in the process of being sculpted

guys thanks for your reply to my posting looks like I'm not the only one on these boards who is concerned about the kits that are being sold. Good to see like minded forum member on here We as a community need to sort out what we can do next to help existing and new members in obtaining helmet kits for example buyer guides, simple examples etc... which I will need to look into further and I'm open to suggestions

guys over the last year I've been getting very concerned with what I'm seeing and reading from other BSN members who have bought helmet kits from prop makers. Allot of the kits I've seen on here have been poorly made i.e.. vac formed, I don't want to point fingers at any prop makers but I think things have to change if your supplying sub standard helmet kits to our forum members I think the makers should sell any kits with flaws in the pulls as "graded helmet kits" so that members on here know what they are getting in the post before opening the box to be disapointed Any kits sold that are 99% ok should be sold as "hero kits" I know this is a hobby and your going to need to tweak the helmet kit when putting it together but when your completely chopping sections out, replacing sections, re-moulding/shaping areas kinda upsets me see members having to spend allot of time putting the kit right when the supplier could easily change the way they make/pull the helmets and get sharper pulls from the bucks I would be interested in hearing what other members think and see if we can try and work with the makers of the helmet kits so everyone gets a better delivered kit

Michael thanks for posting over the last year I'm getting very concerned about new and existing members on here purchasing and getting below-standard helmet kits from prop makers something has to to be done as it's not fair on the members who buy these kits!

this is looking really awesome, the time and effort you've spent will pay off as it's a great looking helmet.

Rob would you be able to make the buck able to be taken apart once the plastic has been vac formed over? i.e. cut the buck into slices that some how bolted or screwed together before vac forming over and then can be unbolted and the slices of the buck individually taken apart and pulled out? I saw another member years ago do this with the knee armour.

OMG that's my template, so glad that you guys are using it :D :D :D :D the template was designed around a Don Post and MLC visors but as far as I'm aware it will fit most lids best option is to print it out on paper and cut the template out and see if it's fits your lid

guys, been in contact with the owner of these tooling masters and the scout helmet is possibly a deluxe version and not the standard DP helmet. He's currently going through and sorting his collection and said to give him another message to get some photo's taken, as soon as I get something I'll post these pics up but it's another great lead into the origins of the scout helmet. Be interested to know who close the DP Deluxe is to the original helmet

hi guys, for some of you who know me on these forums ypu'll know that I'm a huge scout fan I've this evening stumbled across a photo of a tooling master from the DP range of Star Wars helmets and a biker scout is one of these. Not sure if it's a Delux Version but I'll find out anyway enjoy

hi love the progress pics and how you've constructed the helmet so far. painting - prep the surfaces with wet n dry paper to get out all the major scratches and also this will provide a key for the undercoat to be applied too. Also ensure the helmet is de-greased before painting. I've seen other guys that paint TK helmets stand the paint can in boiling water to help the paint be more fulid....but I've not tried this before. I've always used a grey primer first then a white primer one I've identified areas that need to be given more sanding time too as if will highlight alot of issues. then wet n dry each spray layer once dry keep repeating the process until happy before laying down the final white layer always apply in thin coats as the paint will run if over painted also leave each layer of paint to dry before applying another layer From the photo's I've seen of your SC helmet, the overall final pull of the plastic seems very soft and badly warpped in areas?
