somebody know a good glove maker?
Acrylikhan replied to mrbungle's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper Soft Parts
yep. First casting is a 42A durometer urethane with a gray colorant. -
ARF! ARF!!!! ARF! ARF! What sort of paperwork do you have to provide? Is it like a a detailed step by step of how you will be making the helmet along with the material? Definitely post your progress pictures. It'd be really great to track your work.

Good work! You're off to a great start. What program are you using? There are quite a few places in Illinois and Wisconsin that have SLA machines (both traditional Laser, and Objet Polyjet Systems). Are you thinking of roto-cast urethane, or fiberglass for your helmet?

Yes, the part the shows through the glove is the same length and width.. with a 1/2-in lip around. The urethane should be easy to cut with a knive if you need to take the lip down a little. I wish I had archive access!!! Just been looking at too many promotional released photoes. My eyes are actually crossed now. To be frank though, this is one tough greeblie to nail down. Out of the five pictures, none of them are really the same - except for the weird oblong shape. Some of the ribs are flatter or wider. When I was told that ILM's digital staff wasn't all working with the same version of 3D programs for EpIII... I realized that could account for the differences. I'm in the holding pattern for an open slot... just hoping that will come sooner than Friday! -

Version 2 of the Glove Greeblie - I found some new info on the glove greeblie, so I re-did the file. I noticed that there were eleven "ribs" on the thing instead of eight. The ends are not perfectly round, there sort of oblong. What do you guys think? Lonescout...PM headed your direction. -

Bro, this looks great! It's certainly getting very tight and crisp in details! The visor looks really good too! Making a flip lid should be very easy... as I am doing the same with mine. Fusing it together to make it on part, and then carefully marking out a new line where the bucket should be. This is my plan for my helmet... you can see where I've redefined where the bucket line will be. I just used the DP rubies to get a feel what it should look like. Plan the cut, and then place the visor on the whole thing mark and drill the holes for the bolts. Make sure the hinge works with the visor, trim off any excess where the hinge stops on the bucket. After your satisfied that it works, double check your marked cut line for the faceplate, and make sure it works well with your planned cut. Then carefully, and slowly cut the faceplate away. If you can, don't use a Dremel unless you're comfortable that you can control it effectively. Score the line a few times with an xacto blade, and then slowly trim off with the tip of an xacto saw. You'll keep more material. Then it's all a matter of fusing the hood and the faceplate together. -
The boys at the Clone Wars are certainly getting creative!

I think we might have to agree on a glove first, then search the type of material we would use for the gauntlet part. Then I could alter the file accordingly. That's no problem though. I think the measurement from the top of the lip to the top of the greeblie was about 0.115." Just a hair under .125. I can easily shorten it by bringing up the lip, or make the gap height taller in case there's padding we have to figure. All in a days work... all to easy. Maybe we should post pictures of all the gloves and give the prices for each. I'd like to go for something more accuarate, and have less work the leatherworker/seamstress would have to do for alteration. But I think everyone agrees, price is a little more of a concern in this economic pinch. -

Okay... Version 2. I've made the "lip" around the edge of the exposed surface so that it could be attached the fabric with an adhesive or sewn in place. The lip is about a 1/4 inch all the way around, and the total height is about a 1/4th of an inch. I'm not sure if that's too high or too low with material thicknesses (the outer fabric/leather and any padding) that will be used. Good news is that all these measurements are full adjustable, and I can easily alter them. So, the table is open for disscussion! Let's try to get a good critique, and then we can go from there. -

Looks like a great place to start. Do you know how much those gloves in the picture cost? There was some police riot gear that had gloves that were close the screen glove... but I think they're sold out because the links dead. I would like to get more feedback on the greeblie before I build it but the general shape is right. I would love to get a few of these to you so that way she's got something to work with. I'll send you a few different shores of urethane rubber. I'll send you a pair, or a few. Maybe if we can wrap up discussion on the greeblie this week, I can get started the following week with the mold. Sound good? -
I don't know if DYLON is available in the States... but Rit is very good stuff! Excellent!

Interesting...! How much dye did you use? Or should I also ask how big is your washer?

Well, here's my preliminary CAD file from the information I have. Right now, I think when we discussed this before, the length was about 1.75 inches wide by 5.75 long. However, I think it was inset into the glove. So I would still need to make a "lip" so that cloth adhesive (like GOOP, or something) could be applied to the part and then pressed into place. Still working on the proper height. The urethane rubber I use is soft enough to sew in place, but that would be a lot of work for the glove maker. 75% of the CAD work is done. We would just need to finalize some of the minor details, Alter the CAD file to fit those new details, build a couple on the STL machine at work, pattern finish, and then mold. I could have these in a mold with few castings within a five days. (barring a slot on the STL machine closes on me and I can't fit my parts on the build trays.) -

There I a guy close to me that I'm talking with about this design. I'm not too positive about this, because the price could be high, even using medium range materials to keep it accessible. Regardless.. I'm still making the greeblie. I am going to make a rubber urethane castings for the greeblie on the forearm. Keep you fingers crossed... or if there is someone out there, please post here! -
GO for it! Who cares if it will be certified or not. Just go for it!
