Starting my first build - ROTJ Scout

It’s really just a matter of preference.  The simplest way is to attach a square 2”x2” piece of loop to the back of the vest where you have your 2” closure already.  Then put a 2”x2” piece of hook on the end of your strap to attach it.  It’s keeps it nice and snug and you’ll have no issues during a troop.

For the cod, you can certainly sew it to the flak jacket, but then there’s no room for adjustments.  You gotta make sure you have it perfectly positioned prior to sewing it on.

I prefer to have the ability to adjust it.  I used hook and loop again.  I sewed 2” loop onto the back of my cod along the top, and then 2” hook onto the front of my vest.  That gives me a little wiggle room when I suit up to make sure I have everything perfectly positioned and aligned.

Again, it’s just a matter of preference.

Greeblie Questions:

1) For the rectangular piece on the thermal det, do I need to cut out the top middle part so that the top is two individual rectangles? The CRL looks like yes, but I can't tell on some of the screen shots.  I want to confirm before I slice it out.

2) For the round tank knob in the cutout, does the bottom half need to be white or can the whole knob be black?  This one is harder to tell.  I saw a few lancer approvals that look like it is all black, but the MOTM shots look like the bottom half of the knob is white.  (I plan on sanding this down a bit anyways so that it sits more flush with the tank topper.)

Neither is glued on yet, so both are easy changes to make.

Peter,

Yes, you should cut out the rectangular slot at the top of the det box greeblie.

The whole "button" greeb on the tank topper greeb can be black. Also, I would sand down the height of the button greeb some more. It's hard to judge the measurements, but I can tell you that the one I have from RS is about 9.5mm in total height.

Getting closer!  I think I am on the last steps.  My helmet is in another state and I will get it over christmas, the thermal det ends should arrive from RS in the next week or two, and I am almost done shaping/assembling my holster.

When looking at my gear, does anything pop out to your trained eyes?  (Over the holidays I will submit my application to my local garrison, and I will take cleaner photos in some good Texas sunlight)

This has been so much fun to build and everyone has been extremely helpful as I put my stuff together! :)

Nice work Peter. Nothing really stands out to me for Basic/Level 1 clearance.

As refinements, and these are really Lancer/Level 2 items, I would recommend is to bring your chest pouches in slightly so that the ends align with the ends of your chest armor.

Your chest and back are pulling back, which is also pulling your shoulder bells back.

Try and pull your knee armor up. It may be that your boots are too tall, which you can't do much about with the IB boots. Again, that is a Lancer/Level 2 issue and shouldn't be a problem for Basic clearance.

I am having a hard time free handing the paint for white circle.  Is there a trick to getting it perfectly round?  What are the level 1 and level 2 thoughts for the top of my tank?

If you have access to a decal cutter, or if you know a friend who has one, then that's the best way to go.

I don't think that what you've done should be much of an issue for basic. The upper right quadrant of the circle could be neatened up a bit, but that's pretty minor.

Hi

Congratulations on starting your build.  If you are looking for the soft parts of your costume i would recommend Pascale who runs the Creative Art Shop on Etsy.  She did an amazing job.  I will post pics as soon as I can.  I had everything done on the flight suit.  The suede patch, the elastics. the bum patch.  I cannot remember where I got my pistol from and I am looking at making my boots as Imperial Boots have a long waiting list to make them.

Again congratulations on the start of your 501st Journey

I have a question about the best way to transport the costume for trooping.  I can fit everything except the torso armor and the helmet in a large pelican case and it all looks safe and secure.  But, due to the size and more flimsy nature of the upper armor, I am worried about putting it in a pelican case as well.  I was wondering what everyone else does to transport their kit? Is it about how you pack it, what is packed separately, or is there some other option that I'm not thinking of?

My bin is tall enough that I can fit my chest and back armor vertically. Some folks separate and stack their chest and back armor, but that also depends on how you've done your build.

You might want to check these threads for some ideas on packing and storage bins:

Nesting your stuff also creates space. All of my armor save the belt is nested in between the chest and back armor in my Husky tote. The links Chopper provided will give you some great insights and ideas.
