Hey all, I need just a tiny bit of help on the strapping that connects the back and front chest armor. I went to @Strider and@Chopper thread tutorials for the lancer version of this strapping. But the details provided in both on the strapping wasnt much. I purchased the optional 1.5 inch white elastic, multiple white velcro widths, 1 inch white elastic banding for the bridge covers, and everything else you could think of.

I just want to get this right the very first time,  and stop myself from backtracking to fix mistakes.

Materials:

zWnYvpSaG-GgUCeWbbOdeayhkqahjAMpwo-iyrC_

Tuorial examples i have found:

@BikerScout007 version

YLdi5kHN7VbpWz0uRkhcKxLZyQWI_Q8UJ8vOMZlz

Choppers

o8ySCqEnnTtLyKNNCYnRyZviLlJV5Ak2MZMVKXrn

Bv7_XOMpojS-OFOL5UNnsgv3DOIG-SPE3AfgdpVT

Striders Version

9GRGl6kAJ47uQlDRdUFyslU5_1tY7GrJOBX0bM-f

And the mock sewing line is optional correct?

rBoB3pdy8bs8_RBOx0WdlSqtjNoGS2EuB9z2uvtp

so basically I'm just looking for where EXACTLY the velcros are placed inside the armor, and where the velcro is sewn onto the strapping. I prefer the strapping connects to eachother like the scouts is posted above. Its easier for me to secure the armor that way.

-Scot.

Hey Scot, I used Strider’s method for my kit. In the photo below you can see the faint outlines of where I stitched Velcro to secure the webbing to the back armor. There are two addition spots off camera where the other red arrows point. They are located about a 1/2” behind the side edge of the back armor.

388f3c090dc32ca9dc3e5e675d706fff.jpg

The purple arrow points to the end of the webbing which has Velcro attached to it. That gets slipped through the slot on the chest armor and folds back to Velcro to the back of the webbing that spans between the front and back armor. Strider’s pic lays out where the Velcro should be applied in this regard. Doing it that way, there’s no need for false stitching on the side.

I also find that Strider’s method is easier to put on. I generally only unattach one side, slip it on and then reattach it. Best of all, I can do it myself if there’s no extra hands available. Others may have their own preferred methods, which would probably work equally as well.

Just keep in mind, the only thing that matters, whether it is Level 1 or 2, is how it appear from the outside.  We don't evaluate anyone's costume based on what goes on in the interior.

The only part of the chest strap we are concerned with is this:

I am starting my lancer approval fixes, etc so i can shoot for lancer level. Should  i just start my own lancer thread and ask all of my future questions in that, rather than start a bunch of new topics?

You already have a build thread, so just continue to post in there:

That's the way I've always done it and I find it useful when I go back years later to refer to things to have it all in one place.

I will do that then mickey, i prefer that anyway as well.

So look at this shortcut, unprofessional, half a** rivet job i JUST NOTICED while taking the chest armor apart to add my new strap!

Is there some kind of fix you all know about, and could suggest that to me? Upon Mickey’s advice, i will continue this discussion in my Wip from here on out. Can mickey or another person with higher access merge this thread into my wip please? If not, ill move what i can over to it

If you glue a piece of some scrap styrene behind the hole, you can mix up some abs paste, fill it, and sand it down. Then you can re-drill it to the desired rivet diameter.

Here's a link from whitearmor on making abs paste: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/42866-how-to-make-abs-paste/

Dude, you’re good. This is more common than you might think but an easy fix. Like Chopper said, make some ABS paste and fill the hole as directed. You’ll be good as new in no time. Just make sure to verify the placement of your new rivet with the armorers before popping your new one in, otherwise you may have to fill a second hole if you miss the mark .
Check out Scoutpedia for visuals of placement.

I know you had many issues with your kit and I get your frustration with the vendor, but keep in mind that vendors aren’t making kits to satisfy Lancer requirements. There’s 1500 or so Scouts in the Legion and less than 100 active Lancers. Who are vendors going to cater to? They are concerned about their kits meeting basic clearance not Lancer. Even RS Propmasters which touts lineage armor and charges a premium for the distinction has to be tweaked to meet Lancer requirements. I had to move my tank rivet on my RS kit because they mount it too low for Lancer. It was good for basic as was yours, but Lancer is all about fit and detail (with emphasis on the former).

I’ve worked with ABS paste before, especially when repairing cracks in my kit, but for my tank, I used a little GreenStuff to plug the hole, but my hole was much smaller than yours. The nice thing about GreenStuff is that it’s pliable and I was able to get it pretty flat and smooth with the tank, so there was minimal sanding once it dried and hardened. I used a 400 grit Emory board for Jewelry polishing to give better control while sanding the GreenStuff smooth so as not to scuff the ABS. Then I just put a dab of white paint on it to mask it.

@BikerScout98 Your personal experiences has proven why being involved with the detachment is so important when creating your build. You have done exactly that.  It's unfortunate that you have received so many poor quality items, especially ones that guarantee a certain level of attainment. We've all been there and wasted money on pure junk before, when we thought we were getting something approvable. Having to start over can be very disheartening and make you want to rage quit. Trust me, I've been in that place before. But, you have proven to yourself and your peers that you do have perseverance and quitting isn't an option. All you can do now is just keep moving forward and share your knowledge and personal experiences with the newbies.

Scot you truly have been on quite the journey, which has taught you so much and become wiser.

Thank you for sharing, just as Clay has mentioned so many have travelled down that road and we want others to watch for signs, so if you've reached just one person with the passion that you have to achieve the finish goal with those set backs, its a good day.

Now get out there and troop... "Just wave and smile when they call you a stormtrooper"

Thank you @M.J @CRex75 for the wonderful words of encouragement. Hearing these kind of replies only strengthens my resolve, and makes me want to help future pathfinders avoid these kind of problems in thier builds. Thanks for your opinions.

Was wondering if we are now needing to use the squared instead of rounded. I read it somewhere, cant remember where tho in here. It's why i bought them. I think Chopper posted the amazon link, not 100% sure. I also know its not on the crl,  but was being debated for that? Either way, i have both.

Can you clarify what you mean by squared instead of rounded? As per the CRL for level 2: Helmet bolts are Gray 3M bolts or other replicas with concave centers. (Visible bolt head diameter of 22mm).

If not using the 3M bolts, then they will need to be a reproduction of the same. For example, several helmet makers use cast versions that are visually indistinguishable.

The amazon link is here: https://www.amazon.com/Fibre-Metal-Honeywell-FM4001-Quick-Lok-Adapter/dp/B002BUMS8Y/ref=psdc_7491811011_t1_B015MG1SMK

Oh no boss, i got whats required on my bucket now, see photos.

Im talking about the square that had tocbe drilled into the helmet visors sides for that set of 3m style bolts. My current bolts are not square on the "Inside" (behind the concaved head). Both sets i own look identical from the outside, same color, same concave, and same 22mm diameter size.

I just thought detatchment command found a new reason to ONLY USE one style period. Im almost sorry i asked this question, as i feel your going to just say: Yeah scot, your fine then" after i typed all of this out right before taking a break....hahahaha.

If needed I'll. just post 2 photos of the sets side by side. I just HATE having to take my visor off my bucket. Not lazy, it just takes awhile because of all my mods, and pads.

Thanks @Chopper! 👊

Oh ok, gotcha. Yeah the way the bolt is affixed to the helmet, because we can't see it, is up to personal preference.

*Note: I am in no hurry. I understand nothing is personal, and that this process is to keep the Lancer Level standards consistent and as close to the actual armor worn/designed for on set filming. I look forward to this next process with a good attitude and plenty of time to make any adjustments requested by the review team or command staff.

I'm excited. Lets do this....

Starting with Chest Armor - Front/Back:

I am submitting armor piece by piece , as i go over them first with the crl, or any changes or fixes noted by my reviewers, then submitting the next and so on. If thats okay i mean ofc. from what i can see for chest armor issue is just that bottom rivet and the gaping hole it provided. What do i do if i have no extra scrap armor?

Thanks, Scot

@BikerScout98If you need scrap white abs to make abs paste to fill in that hole, I have a 5 gallon bucket full of it. Let me know if you need me to send you some. I can Facetime with you to show you how to make it once you receive it.  It's a simple process but does take some practice to get it right. The pics and upgrades are looking good!

I only need a tiny amount, but not sure I have enough scrap material to make even that much.  I had kept all of my TK armor scraps until I moved from MI to TN over a year ago.  I may need some if you can send just enough for me to cover about the size of what is shown in the attached pic.  I accidentally cut the strip slot on top before I realized I wanted it on the bottom, and I MAY have enough to make just that much paste.  Most of it will be covered by the strap, but I don't want holes showing on the sides that the strap won't cover.

Hey Scot

Please keep in mind this point I made in my post about Level 2 and New Recruits:

Quote

We've had a few Recruits ask to apply for Lancer BEFORE they've even been approved, or more commonly, Lancer "Pre-Approval".  Folks, Lancer approval is an exhausting process, one that I am only all too happy to delegate to our fine Level 2 Review teams.  :D  I am not going to ask even more of my teams by having them run approvals on folks who aren't even Detachment members yet.  Get approved, become a full fledged Pathfinder, then come back when you are ready to apply.  We will be waiting for you!

We don't do Lancer Pre-Approval.   When you are ready to apply, just apply.  The L2 team will tell you what to fix.   It's not a big deal, dude.  My submission-to-approval process lasted months.   Of course, things were a little slower then.  But the point is, just apply.  Don't worry if it's not perfect.  It seems like you're really getting in your head about this and my advice is to just relax, take a deep breath, and trust in yourself.  The L2 team will help you get across the finish line once you've submitted your Lancer app.   For now, just focus on the build and the CRL.

As we like to say around here "make it look like the picture!"

http://www.501stpathfinders.com/scoutopedia.php

And remember, we don't evaluate what cannot be seen from the outside!

Mickey, i will edit this right now and do as you have directed.

As i mentioned I'm in no hurry. I'm waiting on a brand new flight suit from Christian that should be coming in a week or so. I am 100% unhappy with how mine fits eveywhere.

I am basically mirroring @AradunFF lancer request thread, as he had very little hurdles/issues to deal with. (I know, I know, I gotta be reviewed wearing it too...lol).

But it helps tremendously to ATLEAST study the armor photos from approved lancer threads, scoutopedia, CRL Scout, Armor tips threads (Choppers) to make adjustments if needed. Thanks @BikerScout007 for the continuous support & advice!
