BikerScout98 WIP

Hello again PF,

I asked a few members that have been around for a few years what to do about my armor issues. They suggested to start a wip thread since my armor was declined by my GML(Central Garrison) the first time around for a few minor issues.

I will post my photos in the order that the armor is put on (for most) so everything is in order.

That is what i have so far thats been asked of me. Its been a VERY rough year trying to get this armor actually into my home from its creation in spain, and then reviewed by the gml's for general acceptance into the 501st at the least. Well....looks like my road is even longer than i thought. Apparently I have some armor issues the gml pointed out to me yesterday in an email. Luckily it wasnt how any of the armor is worn, but how some of the armor was made. I think also the gml did not get nearly any of these photos from the start as well. So maybe, just maybe he will look these over and make some revised decisions in my favor...Because im not a poor man persay, but after spending over a grand on it, wife says i am currently broke until further notice. This would normally be horrible news to be broke, no 501st membership, and basically owning a $1000 Worn once a year halloween costume/collection piece no one really sees. But this is NOT a normal group of poeple im trying to troop around with for events and charities. This is the 501st! and i have never in my life seen so many nice, giving, caring and helpful group of poeple eager to help another whilst down. I messaged miker_scout on instagram and said "You know what man, I could almost say instagram alone is good enough for me because so many members are readily available to chat, meet, and give advice or even help if need be!"

Thanks everyone...it makes the bad news not so bad. 😉

@BikerScout98 This is the place to be!  You should get some good solid feedback on what's good to go and what needs work.  I'm certainly no expert but I'll do what I can to help.  We realize you paid good money for a product that is "CRL ready" but keep in mind things are rarely "CRL ready" out of the box despite what the seller says.  The good news is you are off to a great start with some good kit.  As we talked about, some of the things that need to be fixed are probably fairly simple.  The key is to be patient, work though the advice given and just roll with it.  You'll be approved soon enough.

I would recommend printing off a copy of the CRL and going through your gear and checking off things that are good to go and highlighting things that need work.  Come back with questions and work the process.  The guys here are pretty good about explaining what the issue is and what the fix is.  You won't hear "your dog bone is wrong" and that's it.  Usually they will tell you what is wrong and why, then give a tip or two on how to fix it.  If you're still not sure, ask..."how can I fix this?" they will walk you though the process.

I also would look though some other WIP threads and even the lancer applications for common issues and how people fixed them.  You're not first person doing this and those threads are a wealth of information.  I'll look though some of these pictures tonight after work, I can't bring up the links from here.  When possible share the picture not a thumb nail.

I agree with everyone. Mind I suggest including standalone photos of the flak vest and flight suit? They also could benefit more light because those pieces are super dark.

The armorers will chime in with solid advice for sure. However, be prepared for them to ask you to post higher resolution photos. It appears (at least when viewing from my Tapatalk App) that the images are small and low res which will make it difficult for them to see the finer details that may need to be addressed. They’ll definitely get you squared away though. Hang in there trooper.

So if you remove the buckle and replace it with velcro that should be okay as far as your GML is concerned, correct?  Was there anything else?

Mickey, he's been messaging me back and forth on Instagram.  I suggested he make a post here.  I believe the issues were

  • Incorrect sleeves on the vest
  • belt should not connect with a buckle (which we could not find in the CRL)
  • Incorrect dog bone on the boots and incorrect hem

That's all I know about.

This is part of the email sent to me from stephen (gml)

Issue #1

ME13TLXB_t.jpg

Unfortunately for me, stephen is correct. I watched the bosses video on this as well, and he even mentions this:

I would REALLY appreciate a link (preferably to a vendor who makes this vest correctly), or a 501st member who is trusted in the same regard. I really don't want to go to very expensive  if possible. I would rather pay a fellow trooper or 501ST vendor and support them.

I will post each of these 5 issues, so they can be dealt with individually rather than the whole...

And thanks to all pathfinders for any and all support given to me in advance!

Issue #4

ME13TI5Q_t.jpg   ME13TI5M_t.jpg

I discussed this issue with another and they agreed that nowhere does it say a "side release buckle" CANNOT be used to attach in the back. I put this collage together for reference:

Final Issue #5

ME13TM0N_t.jpg

ME13TI4B_t.jpgME13TI4D_t.jpgME13TI47_t.jpgME13TI45_t.jpg

Ok, those are the 5 issues currently keeping me from becoming a 501st as far as the GML is concerned.

I ALREADY had to make NUMEROUS soft armor adjustments with a professional alterations shop which cost me alot.

My Garrison (I won't name in case the following is read as insulting or incorrectly sizing up the situation) forums are very, very quiet. They seem to be very active in the real world troopin' and contributing like many other garrisons do.

Thanks PF for all considerations and previous, current, and continuous support. 🙏👊🙌

If your looking for a reputable vender for a new flak vest check out StephTrooper. She made the vests for the scouts on the Disney Mando series. Can’t get more reputable than that.

Replacing the webbing of the belt is an easy and cheap fix. An armorer can provide you with info on the best way to do it or if there’s another alternative to fixing it.

It’s tough to make out what the issue is with your boots due to the small images. I’m guessing that the dog bone isn’t really dog bone in shape? If so, then this to should be something that you can correct. Someone recently had a similar issue and with the help of an armorer’s advice was able to cut the dog bone to the correct shape. I’ll have to see if I can find the post, but perhaps that Pathfinder will see this and jump in.

One thing is for certain, these repairs are not going to cost you a ton so there’s no need to scrap your armor, sell it, and give up your desire to join the 501st. Hang in there and you’ll get this sorted soon enough.

Found it…

http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/22556-rotj-and-remnant-boot-differences/

Scroll down to Dekard’s post from August 5 and he provides details and step by step instructions on how to reshape the dog bone.

It's tough to tell from the picture, but it looks like there might be enough excess webbing material if you undo that buckle in the back of your belt and stitch velcro to it.

What you want is something like this:

Prepro%20Back%20and%20sides.jpg

If there's not enough excess, you would just need to replace the closure straps in the back with ones that were long enough to provide some overlap for the velcro.

@BikerScout007 I was just coming in here to reply with this!! Lol

Looks like dropping the buckle and adding white velcro with locktite to secure it will not only do the job, but passes t2 requirements (just as is, not worn) as well then....cool.

ME13TMYJ_t.jpg

This may just come down to me having to purchase a new vest and then be good to go! I am focusing on one issue at a time to make SURE i do not move backwards, only forward 👍

When i feel as though the issue is no longer, i post. So it looks like 3 or 4 down and/or figured out. Again....thank you, thank you, thank you pathfinders!!!!! 🙏😅
