Mandrake
Hello, I'm new here and only just starting my trooping journey,in fact I've only just ordered my patrol trooper armour from armoury prop shop in Russia! While I'm waiting I'd like to make a 2 items before it arrives, the leather pouches on the belt and the baton,is there anyone one here that could give me the dimensions of said items,so I can get the materials needed and make them while I'm waiting? I do have reference photos to go by , I would like to use the correct sizes though to be able to be accepted in to the 501st easily. Thanks for your time, Cheers 😁

But we have some decent guesses. 1
MrPoopie
My build thread is above and some of the first things listed are the pouches and baton. The measurements I used for the big pouches are 2"W x 1"L x 4" H. The small pouches are 1.5"W x 7/8" L x 3"H. The baton is about 12.75" long. Other smight have slightly different dimensions because as @BikerScout007 said, we don't have exact measurements. The small pouch is the same height as the belt, we know that much. 2
Ruthar
Hey, Justin! In the linked post below, I outline how I went about crafting my own belt boxes based on my own guesses for what the actual size might be. My sizes are very close to what @MrPoopie posted above, so you should be good to go if you're in this ballpark, too! 2

Mandrake
@Ruthar am I correct in thinking the baton and fabric is included with the armour? I've had a quick read through your build,I thank you in advance for the tips and tricks I'm probably going to need.

I had some extra faux leather in my fabric drawer from another build that I ended up using, but any craft shop should have that available for you. Getting real leather could be a nice touch, too!
Mandrake
@MrPoopieI've been reading through your build, and I've noticed your a fellow Justin, there's not many of is there! again thanks for the assistance also. 1
Mandrake
@MrPoopie sorry to be a pain, but could I ask if you had any problems being approved with the trousers you have in your build? I've found some similar trousers in ASDA ( I'm From the UK)bit I'm a bit puzzled as to what is correct as far as the trousers go..in CRL it says it must be a cotton like material, and have pockets that opens along the seam, but yours don't open along the seam ,but they are made of a cotton type material.. however the ones pictured in crl and from armourprop shop like the pair @Ruthar has , I've gone through both of your builds, are made from what I would consider to be a shiny polyester type material ,not cotton, and from the limited pictures I can find ( mostly from toy's it seems) they have what I would consider to be a more polyester tracksuit/ running trousers look/ cut / bagginess to them that suit trousers don't have. So which one of these is correct? I know the strips are wrong on the one tracksuit, but I have ordered some white tape to put on the correct trousers , when I find them.. 🤔🤨
Ruthar
Of those options, the bottom one might be the best choice to experiment with as it looks to have the fewest embellishments that would need tackling. For my ICAT from the Mandalorian, I actually used a pair of Dockers work pants and modded them - I only bring it up as they were a cotton, form-fitting, plain black pair of trousers that were easy to mod, so you might be able to find a pair that work for you that are similar.
MrPoopie
The CRL does say "cotton type" but a few of us end up with polyester uniform pants similar to motorcycle officer pants. As long as it isn't shiny and gives the same appearance you'll be fine. https://www.uniformswarehouse.com/striped-polyester-slacks-68986.html Some of us have these. They may not be available in your region but you get the idea. Just make sure you have the proper color and stripes.
Mandrake
Do these look ok then? I'm limited on where I can buy things in person as we are still in a lockdown here in the UK,the Stripes are winging there way from China and I will be removing the belt hooks if you guys think they are acceptable.ive been going through the various builds,so I shouldn't need to bother you both too much after this! Again your help is greatly appreciated!!!
Hask
They could work, you would not be able to go for CHiPs with the pockets though.
Mandrake
@Haskcheers mate,I see your from the UK too! I have just checked the CHIPs thread. There's certain item's I've ordered from another country that don't reach level 2 , newbie error on my part, so I'll consider the suit a 'work in progress' for the time being anyway. As long as I know where I've gone 'wrong' I can correct them along the way.Again yours and everyone's help is greatly appreciated!
Mandrake
@Hask I've run in to a rather large problem... I contacted armour prop shop / Denis about the undersuit yesterday, and they don't have the fabric available in stock / can't source the material to make a undersuit jacket currently ( I bought some trousers already ^ that i will sow soon, so the pocket follows the seam and add the white strips , I really only need a jacket )! So It seems like I may have to source a jacket from elsewhere 😕 My question is will something like these jackets pictured be ok with some alterations ( made by a seamstress) to the arms for ribbing / stitch pattern and if needed making the zip not visible by addition of a flap be acceptable to level 2? I have contacted a seamstress who specialises in starwars soft goods , to make a one off jacket ,a week ago ,but I am still awaiting a reply. . ------------------------------------. Sorry to be a pain but I want my suit to be as film / toy accurate along with level 2 acceptable..I'll spray the inner batton holder and inner chest pieces so as to give the illusion of it being 'real' rather than 'made', airbrushing the batton with alclad metallic paint where needed, sand and painting the blaster. With the helmet I'm planning on making the teeth slightly rounded at the edges (which can be seen on the one and only real life promo shot, lol), adding black mesh to teeth and green reflective material to the lens so my glasses won't be visible 👓 installing a cooling system, which I'll post when done ,as this hasn't been covered much and CAN be done far cheaper than ready made systems, along with a speaker / voice changing system that gives the ability to sound like your voice is coming through a radio, again ,done on a tight budget...it also has the ability to sound like the judge at the end of Roger rabbit when he changes in to a toon " like thiiiissss"🤣
Mandrake
One more possibility?
MrPoopie
The first one might work. You'll have to make sure that the front zipper seam is hidden under the ribbing but that should be doable. You'll still need to add the rear zipper and forearm zippers for accuracy. I would talk to your seamstress as it might be easier to start from scratch then break a jacket down for modifications.
Hask
To be honest you are going to get too hot in leather personally I would avoid.
Mandrake
Agreed @MrPoopiethe first version does look a very similar cut to the propshop jacket,i unfortunately can't speak to a seamstress face to face as the Rona lockdown is in full effect and only food shops are open at the moment but IMHO it's more a case of it LOOKING correct rather than it serving a purpose, for example the zip on the back is only slightly visible ,so it doesn't have to serve as a zip, only accuracy, the zip puller on the front could be removed and replaced with thin fishing thread and covered by either a flap running along the zip or by a ribbed neck covering, only the sleeves would need fitting with working zips @Hask all the jacket pictured aren't real leather 😉 Edited March 15, 2021 by Mandrake
Hask
Oh ok 😀, remember that whatever you go for will need the ribbing on the arms too.

I should mention that these jackets cost no more than £20 / $30 ish ,which leaves the cost of a seamstresses to create the ribbing and extra materials if needed. From what I can tell ribbing is essentially bunching up fabric neatly and sowing in place. As far as the patterns of stitching and ribbing, I was thinking I could copy what is visible on wips? Cheers for your time ☺️

Mandrake
Sorry to be a pain, but I've started working with a seamstress to get the jacket together from fabric I've located online , due to armoury shop prop not having them in-stock .However I've noticed on the CRL the collar is ribbed yet the one's they have been sending out previously were not, which one is correct? Would it be a problem using ribbed material ?as I think it looks better!
