miqt Posted April 12, 2014 Author Posted April 12, 2014 The toe cap meets the riveted plastic with a nice big blob of permatex plastic welder. Its strong. I may load some e6000 into a syringe and put some between the boot and the front edge of the toe cap. The plastic weld isnt under stress though so maybe I wont..... I dunno. Going to shop for the grapple-grommet ring greeblie today.
miqt Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Dyed my Tan ultrasuede- better than real suede cause you can wash it. Used a blend of RIT tan and pearl grey first, but it didn't take too well. Did it again with dark brown and LOTs of pearl grey and very luckily it came out very close to the screen seen color. Also Ive test painted a couple pouches. Sadly my Krylon base color just wicked into the fabric so I had to put a layer of tulips fabric paint down first, then Krylon, then airbrush acrylics. Sadly I lost the nice color of the base fabric. The airbrush acrylics stick to the raw fabric no problem. If I spent the time to mix Tamiya paints to match the base coat of the armor Id have no probs showing some raw fabric through here n there. Maybe on version 2.
gerald Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 way to go looks great ,about toe armour i glued leather strap on the front of boot its work as kinda hinge and 2 straps with velcros under those parts with o-rings i'll send photos tomorrow when i get my stuff back from car after trooping maybe such idea help someone so they works nice for me after 3 heavy trooping including running and such they keep on place :)i will post it in armour section to no mess on Your build .
miqt Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Thanks Gerald. Running? You're braver than me. Here are the 2 spine pouches that look darker than the rest in some of the screen caps. Color turned out pretty much the same as screen cap so I'm happy with them. theyre dark enough already- they wont get weathered like the rest of the pouches.
Death Recon Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 keep it up, how long till you put in for approval?!
gerald Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 very nice pattern hehe ,for running You need also chin strap in your helmet ,learned that hard way ;P
Death Recon Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I guess I have a really big head cuase my bucket it tiggggghht
gerald Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 mine is thick too, though when u run it tend to jump on head a bit ,no need really strong chin strap just sumfin what will prevent that wild jumps though need be carefull about toe caps when u run also if they sit too close to shin they can scratch it ,otherwise can do alot more things than Ie stormtroopers
Death Recon Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I have lots of scratches on my shins from the toe caps.... & lots of scratches on my chest armor from taking up a firing posture with my rifle... It adds to the armor, makes it look use & more real
gerald Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 same ,i just checked breastplate after last event and wondered where from came all that black scratches and lines ...seems was blaster
miqt Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Thanks. This project has stalled. I hope to pick it up again in September.
gerald Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 there is alot such things wchichj look different on different screens "pleasures" of armour wchich was 100% graphic generated hehe:)
miqt Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Im sooo coming back to this project soon. As soon as my OT scout is done Im finishing this thing if it kills me. 1
miqt Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 REBOOT!!!! Im doing it. Heres my pile of stuff shot to keep me going! Here is the chest-back. Some heat gun work to do before paint.
miqt Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 I like this fit muuuuch better: This is my last big part to paint.
miqt Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 The last of the armor parts are primed and base coated 1
miqt Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Getting there. I am sick of painting this thing I just want it to be over LOL.
miqt Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 One day of painting left. Im actually getting excited. Its getting sooooo close. And Im almost out of custom paint- and I lost the post it with the paints that went in...so done means done this time.
comm tech Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The greeb on the top of the back plate is supposed to be black. Normally I wouldn't say anything, because you stated that you still had a day of painting left, but it looks like you carried the camo onto the greeb. Looks pretty good
miqt Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks brother. I expect that the black will overlap the camo so that the pattern just goes up to the greeb not over it. Heres hoping I didn't make an oops cause im out of green. there: Though now that its painted I see that the tank is about 3/4 of an inch too big. Oh well way too late now.
miqt Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Time to finish up the shins. Jae and I talked a long time about what the best material for the straps would be. We ended up falling on fire hose. Just the right texture and body I think.
comm tech Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Tank is a little extended from the back plate, but the nice thing about the camo paint job is that it hides some imperfections. Unless you point it out, most people won't even notice. FIrehose does look good. I just used cream 1" webbing and dirtied the heck out of it before installing on the shin armor. But now that firehose looks good HMMMM!!
miqt Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Still working away. Putting a matte coat polyurethane on everything to protect the paint job. lost some of the subtle weathering in the process which I guess I kinda knew would happen. I guess I can always buff with steel wool and reapply a bit of weathering powder over the clearcoat. Im modding my shin greebs a bit to look a bit more like the refs and to go on in such a way that they will stay put forever.
