Scout007- Yep, that’s what I’m planning to do as well. Thanks. And I went with 6x5x2 size pouches. Boots, jumpsuit, bund and pouches done. Working on vest/cod but need to wait on SC to arrive and get it started. Thanks for the help guys.
-
As I am moving on to making/finishing the pouches.... are you guys using Velcro on the back side of the pouches to also connect to the bund or just the top alone where it connects and is under the chest piece? I guess what I'm asking is if they "hang" or attach to the cummerbund? From what I can see with photos film/trooping shots, they "hang" from the top.

That's a great idea with the tape. I was able to use the 1 inch spacing marked in pencil and looks good for my size. The key was to measure, mark, try on, try on again, and try on one more time before sewing! LOL All sewn and looks great. Thanks for the help!
-
I was hoping that was it. Measuring I’m thinking an inch is about right. Thanks
-
What is the spacing between the 6 vertical stitching? Looked through threads and don’t see it on CRL. Is it 1 inch or half inch?

Awesome. Great job, looks great

I'm 5'11 @180lbs. Pretty much a tall slim build. A normal 44 dress coat fits me, but if you go with Redkap, go with 44 tall or one size bigger. I'm making my suit work, but again I have to wiggle it over my shoulders. Overall it works because I don't have any bagginess up top. I'm just wrapping up my suit work with all the suede patches/mud flap and sewing collar/ pockets. If you order from Amazon, they will take back if you don't like the size.
-
Wow, I've been working on this part or my suit for a week or so. This has been the hardest part of my suit so far. (Boots were a breeze, mudflap check, collar easy.) It's just so tough to get to line up on both sides, mid-thigh evenly, and then SEWING!! Guess when this is all done, it's EARNED! BTW, presently I'm going with the Duct tape on the suit, trace out pattern, peel off, and then cut sample fabric part of this build. Not sure how it will work. If it doesn't, I'm heading to a pro to get this done for me. GRRRR. lol

Thank you Sir. I’m starting to get the picture of how to do it. I’m thinking of tracing a pattern by hand onto suit, split the seams on both sides of pants, sew, put back together. Appreciate it.

I will agree. I bought mine fitting my normal 44. But it is tight in torso. It will do but I look funny squirming around trying to get over my shoulders.

I found these pics from other members to use as examples: From what I see on some, the front and back come to mid-thigh and down TO THE KNEE armor. Is that about right? Also the squared-off of the crotch area? Personally I would like the look of a more rounded corners or crotch area. -I think I’m typing the word crotch too much here! Lol

thx BikerScout007. I will try that approach. I just found my real suede material and I'm currently working on the pattern before I take on the sewing. I've tried a couple of ways to find the right pattern (tracing paper pinned over suit, cutting out old pants to lay over suit), but nothing makes it line up just right. Next idea I have will be to lay Duct tape over my groin area of suit and then trace out the right pattern, peel off tape and cut along the lines. Hopefully when it comes off, I can lay flat and trace out the right pattern. Wish me luck. But first, couple of questions to doulbe check before sewing--- 1. I see on thread I see that the front needs to come out mid-thigh and down along thing bone, but where to stop? How high above knee armor? 2. How much of crotch area to cover? I know the cod part of CB will cover most of the area. I just don't want to cut, sew, and then do over because it's to high/wide. 3. Thigh elastic straps are half way down thigh, or how high from knee/low from belt? -Wildcards Rex, I will say that buying a sewing machine is probably the best investment you can make to get you Scout suit near perfect. Way too much sewing required to not have one. I found a good working Brother sewing machine at pawn shop for $35, then paid $15 for some thread and pins. If you don't know how to use one, YOUTUBE has some great how-to videos on threading the needle, sewing tips to help you start. Just practice on some old material first and take you time.

Ok, I’m at a road block. I bought a sewing machine, getting pretty good at it with the simple things. But I have to ask, how the %#&$ did you folks sew the saddle/riding suede on to the thighs??? I broke one needle already trying to squeeze my Redkap suit around my needle and do it without the sewing “foot†down to sew in the different directions. I don’t wanna do it but hand with needle and thread because it will look like crap! I’m looking for suggestions before I just take to a pro and have to pay $.

I’ll give this advice from cutting gauntlets for my Mando/Fett project, low-mid RPM. It will kinda drag on your Drimmel but will allow you to control your cuts without it “jumping†on ya. Too fast and if it hits a snag, it will jump and cut where you don’t want. Easy and slow. When in doubt, use a blade in corners and exact cut areas.

Can anyone give me tips for CRL on the inner thigh suede sewing requirements? Can they have stitch lines? If not, please help me with how you see them! Ha Also, does the 2†strap around thighs just have slight hang? (Little loose) Or should the fit snug when you are wearing suit? Thanks.

Gotta. Awesome. I can’t thank you guys enough for the WIP showing us the way and fellow members guiding us with all the little details and tips. Rock on!

Question-With buying the Redkap jumpsuit, you plan on folding up the collar and making some kind of attaching via hook and fastener? Are the Redkap’s approved this way or just with collar flipped up alone? I’m looking to buy soft parts first myself and want to not spend on something that’s not gonna pass. Thanks for doing this wip, appreciate you sharing with us.
-
Quick question for you and others here-I’m guessing it’s better to purchase armor first so you can see where the chest/back plates rest on body so you can measure how high the cummerbund needs to come up? I’m assume it can’t come too high because you would see underlap on side and arm out area? Just watching and reading while taking notes. Appreciate your wip thread. It’s so helpful and comments for those of us about to pull trigger and build too. Thanks.

Well we are on our 2nd child and I’ve got a starter Dad-bod working myself. So a few extra inches in the cummerbund for me too. Last Q- buying the SC helmet, I’m happy to see it’s not one of the sets where the whole piece is split in half. I’m trying to stay away from that. I’m invisioning a disaster for me. But are you happy either the SC set up/puttting together. Again, keep up the detailed work. I’ll be watching and taking notes my friend. Looks great

Wow, nice work. And fast. Couple of Q's: -What armor vendor did you go with? I'm 5'11 and was looking into SC, but some say it fits for smaller frame. -Is leather for boots approved? I know most use vinyl. I'd look to know how the leather works for you since I could find faux leather similar everywhere before buy $ marine vinyl. Maybe someone on here and help with where they buy local or online? Looks great. I'm just finishing up my note taking before I break out the wallet and dive into mine.
-
Also, I pain on making my own boots. With with the marine vinyl, can you heat it to wrap around the toe of boots to get that smooth or is it just muscle stretching it smooth and lots of abs glue? lol
-
Wow, this is the exact helmet and armor I looking to go with. I'm 5'11, would you say that the armor has some room for a bigger frame person? It's so tough to find the right dealer even if you read all 1000 threads. I actually makes your head spin trying to figure out which one works best. Not like any of us can just go down to the SW armor/helmet store and try on the right pieces to see which fits better. Also, with the helmet, did you find it easy to align it up before attaching/gluing? With all the kit helmets, I'm hesitant will picking one that might be a pain to come together and possibly ruining the whole thing. Keep it up, we are all watching and taking notes.
