Damn, That looks REALLY good. Yeah there are some minor that are off, but over all, it looks damn good. All you need now is an army of Wookiees.

Nice work, Lonescout! I hope I can catch up to you soon. I had a small problem with Bondo inexperience.

DragonCon 2008!!!!! Anyone going? Anyone going with a BARC? (I'm working hard to be there in BARC)
-
Anyone offering an updated insignia? Maybe I will just have to hand paint it...

Looking good... Keep up the good work.

Nice work Michael! Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see more pictures!

I'm going this year and my goal is to have a completed BARC costume to wear. That is a lofty goal of mine, but its what I'm shooting for. I FULLY expect that it is not going to be a perfect match, but I'm really hoping for some "this looks good" / "That part looks wrong" feedback. We gotta get a starting point. We discussed this briefly a while back in this thread. At the time, I think the answer was no moving parts. But, I seem to remember seeing a BARC action figure that had the flip-up faceplate. Who knows...

I think I have found a decent base vest. Please take a look at this and give some feedback. --> VEST <-- It looks like it might work. Just add some 1" vertical elastic straps and you got yourself a BARC vest.

Any suggestions for what to use if you can't find any Citadel - light green Ink per the helmet tutorial? I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions about how to make up an ink wash.

I had heard CB as well... It'd get my vote for now.

Mike, I received my armor today... IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!! Thank you soooo much for all your hard work. I've discovered that I am going to have to do a couple small mod's on the chest and back plates. Apparently, I am alittle larger than your model was. I don't think it'll be a problem to develop a shim for the sides. BTW, this was my Birthday gift to myself this past year. BEST GIFT I GOT!!!! I love it! Thanks Mike... DaVe

What happened to all the reference pictures of the BARC midsection that used to be associated with this post? Does anyone know?
-
Find that camera yet..... Also, what color and brand of dye did you use?

Anyone know if they are planning on doing a 12" BARC Trooper Figure anytime soon?

Add me to the list please....

Hey Jeff, I feel your pain.... The BARC project has been rather slow going lately. To answer your question, 'the powers that be' have yet to set much in stone with regards to the BARC. The guidelines I would go with is just start working on it yourself. Then tune and tweak as things get decided and set in stone. Rule of thumb, "does it look like the troopers in the movies???" I'm guessing the authority on this would ultimately be Thomas, the LMO. As far as BARC standard equipment goes, I'm guessing the BARC will be treaded the same way other starwars costumes have been treated in the past. If you can get some people to say "Wow, that is pretty good!", you are well on your way to having a solid BARC trooper. Let's look at the Biker Scouts... No one started out their first time with Lancer Status. It took a long time to get there. There was alot of trial & error and alot of research. As many of us have seen, pghfett has posted his helmet and armor WIP pictures. All I have to say is "DDDAAAAMMMNNNN...., that is some awesome work". If his work is the baseline-standard for BARC troopers, we're all Screwed!! I don't want to take anything from pghfett; he is a Craftsman!!! But, very few of us are at that caliber of skill. We are left with three options: (1) Wait for someone to develop a kit and tutorial, (2) Tackle the project yourself and head down the trial & error route, or (3) Beg an plead to pghfett to sell you his... Best of luck with your BARC construction. DaVe

Is anyone interested in having a BARC Costume discussion at DragonCon this year? Obviously this wouldn't be a formal panel discussion, but we could discuss it over a few beverages. How many BARC builders are attending DragonCon'07?

Hey Everyone, I need some feed back ASAP. I'm getting ready to go full scale on my undersuit and I need some feedback. I have purchased a brown work jumpsuit / coveralls for about $25. The base color looks good in my opinion and after a few trial & errors, I think I found a technique that will produce the look I am going for. Screen captures / Artist renditions: Close ups of my attempts: Mind you, the flash has changed the appearance slightly, but I think I am getting it close to the movie-screen capture. I think I need more tan sections, but this is more the general idea. These are test patterns on a section that will be covered by armor. I realize that the black is not screen accurate; that was purely a test with a sharpy to see what it would look like. I really could use some feedback and some suggestions if you have any.... Thanks, DaVe

Mike, That stuff is pure artwork.... I can't wait to see in person. BTW, are you going to put together a painting tutorial? Any idea when you might start selling hard armor? DaVe

Hey everyone, I have a question about the visor tint on the BARC helmet. I have seen a few people with a finished product and I am curious what everyone is using and recommends. From my research I have found two possibilites: Motorcycle Helmet Visor Inserts or After-market Automotive Window Tint. Here are some sources for both... motorcycle visor tints Chrome Green Window Tint Despite the higher price, I am leaning towards the window tint over the visor inserts. From what I can tell, the window tint is an outside mounting and the motorcycle visor is an inside mounting. Also, anyone have any recommendations on how to mount the visor inside the helmet? I'm trying to decide between the ol' standard hot glue solution and some sort of fabricated bracket / slide-in mounting system. I'm open to suggestions.... DaVe

That is hardcore, Mad! I'd rather be 80% authentic and comfortable with money still in my pocket. -
I think the first couple BARC's are going to be rather custom and probably not the agreed upon standard BARC 3 and 4 years from now. Look at the difference between the TK's from ~1997 and the TK's now in 2007. I think we need to just get some out there and look to see what works and what doesn't work. I think it is going to take an off-the-shelf jumpsuit and vaccuformed plastic armor before we see a standard BARC. And as many people have said already, until there is a standard technique for painting a camo scheme, they are all going to be at least slightly different. Does anyone know who the designer of the BARC was at ILM? Maybe someone could interview the designer or get ahold of some of their renders for better understanding of the design. Leverage that Sansweet / ILM relationship people...

Mike, PM sent... Awesome Job!!!!!!!

Hey Mike, I went off the design that Madphisto had posted earlier in this thread. The plaster was my mold and the black rubber is my cast / finished piece. The outer rim is raised highest, then the inner lines are "recessed". If the inner lines are supposed to be raised, I have to go back to the clay and start all over. It might be the picture angle, but the basic shape follows Madphisto's drawing. I would have liked to have gone more gray, but the black dye was stronger than I expected. Nothing a gray wash can't fix. DaVe
