My 1st costume BIKER SCOUT 3D printed parts
CatfoodRob replied to Gooseman77's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
This looks good ... a couple of suggestions as I see you are applying for clearance with the UKG , and I know how they work .( I'm a recently cleared scout there also) first, get the belt up higher , on your waist not hips , and raise the cod piece, don't let it tuck under your crotch . second, it looks like you have weathered your hold out blaster , repaint it all black as the movie guns weren't weathered . Im not an armourer, so can't comment on your clearance thread on the UKG. Good luck with clearance !! -

Jame, to get cleared to troop with your local garrison , in your case the super strict U.K.G , you have to go through the UKG clearance procedure . I see you have a w.i.p. Up on their forum , you will be advised and cleared to troop on there . You are heading to be the 5 th cleared RS scout in the uk ! Well done you wear it well . -

Whiskeys scout build (almost there...)

Did you not get an RS blaster ? They are the perfect screen accurate size . The singlepoint red dot sight HAS to be exact size , the reason the red dot sight has The top crosshairs adjuster cap un screwed becomes obvious if you try a correct size blaster ..... it won't sit in straight with the cap screwed on !!!!! Lol. -
Why would you ? The helmet is cast from a real one .

You are doing a fabulous job !!! On the feedback front , I've got two comments , first is the half inch elastic on the knees , I think using the pop rivet is a mistake . You will find the half inch elastic stretches and goes out of shape easily , especially if you have it tight enough to do its job ...what I am saying is that it will need replacing occasionally . Far better to have the pop rivet there for show, and Velcro the half inch elastic in position to make replacement simpler . Just a thought . Second point is also about pop rivets, a mistake almost everyone makes , the pop rivet on the tank topper goes in from underneath , the bit you can see on the tank topper is the load spreading washer and the end of the pop rivet . The head of the pop rivet is inside the tank . Question : how is the magnet holding the blaster ? I also tried that method but it didn't work for me , I ended up fitting a steel trigger gard and glueing a few magnets under my holster lip . It works fine now .

Sole color comparison question
CatfoodRob replied to Tjeccles's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
The CRL is created to allow costumes to be as accurate as possible, but with limitations of what is available in the current day . Tan soled shoes for boot conversions are common and simple to purchase . Any other colour is simply impossible . so, do you want scout troopers to exist ? If you do , you can't insist on dead screen accuracy . After all, we should be insisting every scout uses siera sneakers as a base for their boots , but as they stopped making them over thirty years ago , it spointless. Plus, the last photo you posted wasn't the correct sole . -
If the belt width isn't mentioned in the CRL maybe it's something that needs looking at for the next update . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hi, your question got lost in the discussion about the crl files going missing . The belt should be made from two inch wide nylon/synthetic webbing ( not cotton) . The width isn't specified in the crl , or if it is I missed it . In fact I'm not sure if the material,is mentioned or not . But to be screen accurate , which is what you want I'm sure , two inch is the number . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Treat the codpiece as a piece of armour ... it just sits straight down the front , it doesn't pull under the crotch , the strap does, but the cod just ends straight down in front of your ...well, you know what I mean ... if it's the correct length from waist to your crotch , it won't pull under at all .

This is an old one ...like the mandarin collar and the neck seal issues . ( both highlighted today ) there are no visible chin cups in the movie, but every helmet in the archive has one . out in the wild, troopers wearing chin cups always seem visible . heres my opinion ... in the past troopers have worn fan sculpted helmets and chin cups...resulting in the chin cups being visible . Wearing a screen lineage helmet gives different results . The chin cup isn't visible when wearing a screen accurate helmet with a welding helmet liner . The elastic strap,is visible in a couple of screen caps I believe , and I'm confident the chin cup was worn on screen . Just that it can't be seen unless the head is tilted up ... that didn't happen in the movie. Just my thoughts.

Here's how I cut my boots up . Not exactly the same boot, but you get the idea . I sewed/ glued the flaps where the laces went onto the remnants of the tongue , allowing enough slack for my foot to get in . This produced quite a tight looking boot I think . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

i wasn't suggesting Lancer is based on the mom photos, just talking about them generally . ;0) As a member of the " Star Wars lifesize" build team at celebration Orlando, I got a pretty clear idea of the assembly and layout of the scout costume , and have spent the time since obsessed with it ..( I just wish I'd come to the pathfinders sooner ) and the last year assisting development of the RS scout, especially so . Let's hope I've not let the side down with my own RS scout !!!! Schemes like the stormtrooper " centurion" and scout trooper "Lancer" are excelent ideas and in an ideal world every 501st costumer would aspire to them . Getting the first three RS scouts cleared to troop with the notoriously difficult U.K.Garrison was a first step .its only fair that at least one of us should go for Lancer .

The imperial boots were custom built for the event , the ones that will be sent out with pre orders will be from this run . The sole colour has been sorted and the Velcro is one inch . The sole cuts are just financially unobtainable . A custom sole would make the boots prohibitively expensive unfortunately. As would the boys at RS taking the time to cut them . Howevet, the boot sole is soft enough for an x acto blade !! The magic of the myth costume needs re assessing . For years we have held this as the holy grail . Quite rightly so . It's the only occurrence of a biker suit outside the archive . However , despite the exhibition being overseen by movie guys , it was generally put together by people who didn't work on the movie . The suit is all production made , but only a few parts were from the movie . The bike itself is a given , as are the boots and blaster . After that it gets hazy . The gloves and helmet are screen used , but the rest of the armour and suit is production made , but not screen used . The armour is a raw cast , no greeblies . The chest is pinched for production use, but not used . The rest of the soft goods are also production made but not screen used. So the guys at RS are still wading through details . For Lancer it's a deal with the c.r.l. Not screen accuracy . The suits at M.C.M need adjusting for Lancer . Lancer is something we aspire to , but RS have other markets to asses ... collectors , mannequins , non 501 , 501, they have to please them all . Its a balancing act . It will be up to individual 501 members to go for Lancer , and that may need some adjustments .nothing major , just adjustments fir fit and Crl compliance . Plus , remember, some stuff hasn't been available since the 80 s !!!! Ginos thread about found trim parts proves that . I know this is a rambling post , covering many items . Maybe I should put my costume where my mouth is and start this threatened Lancer thread . There is even more biker stuff on thus weeks RS Propmasters YouTube video about the weekend at MCM . 29 march 2019

We're on it ! Just working on compromises between what was on the screen , and what lancer requires . Soon . ;0)

Gotcha. I need to get some photos together to start a build diary .... I'm sure I've already said that ....

I'm confused ( not difficult) by your comments about the leg elastics on the IB flightsuit . I get that the elastic is too tight , but there are comments about it not seeming to go inside the suede riding patches . Im modifying my IB flightsuit and changing the elastic for fabric webbing that looks visually like the stuff they used oin the movie. Whilst doing so, should it go inside the suede , ?? I'm not sure weather you mean it "should not" or "should" go inside the suede ...or weather it "should" /"shouldnot" stop, level with the suede edge . Cheers.

Biker Scout Boots Tutorial
CatfoodRob replied to cheesewhoopy's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
What width Velcro did you use for the rear closure ? The c.r.l. States one inch , fair enough , but the on screen boots look more like 3/4 inch width . -
Thanks for that guys .

It's an optical illusion .( lol ) .. it's a shade under an inch and a quarter , the ribs are inch . The pouches hang outwards ever so slightly , making the gap at the bottom look larger , a tiny tab of Velcro will hold them in I guess. One last question though .. designs on tank toppers , white dot I know is acceptable, and offside red square isn't ...but two red strips of electrical tape ..one either side of the circle ....is that acceptable, or had I better play safe with a white circle ?

Ha ... I got too impatient ...what do you think ? I guess I need to start a build diary to show where I'm going . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
