  1. Well, I've got my flight suit nearly done except for the suede patches and flap. I'm ordering my SC armor Friday, but in the meantime I'd like to wrap the suit up. Any thoughts as to going at the riding patches while I wait for the armor? My concern is mainly getting the length right without the knee armor there. The CRL states "Suede or faux suede thigh patches must be present, extending over the flight suit crotch and down the front finishing above the knee armor." But I'm not sure where the knee armor will sit.
  2. That's a drag, man. It's tough not being able to try before you buy. I actually rescind my "fits like a champ" comment, as the butt area ended up being quite... billow-y. I took it in a couple inches and it's perfect now. I'm still glad I got the size I did though because from the waist up it's great. I don't think it's going to be a perfect fit for anyone but it didn't take much to get it there.
  3. Congrats, THX! Great work, man. And thanks for the detailed WIP. Hopefully I'm not far behind
  4. Thanks for the heads up! I was wondering how tall you were to get a sense of scale with the CB. I figured it was up there since you're also the Dark Lord of the Sith
  5. Awesome! Great work, man. I've been kicking around the idea of going with a CB lid instead of the KS I was originally planning on. How do you like yours? It looks top notch!
  6. They look just about the same as the Redkap. As much as one can tell from the pics. I got a 42 long, and the chest/torso/ arms fit great, but from the waist down there was a LOT of room. Like, they would've been baggy on J Lo Now, that's on me obviously, but I did take them in a couple inches from the waist and legs, and hemmed them a bit. I don't want to do too much more yet to see where everything ends up once the bund and armour are on top. There's a pic of the pocket/collar mod that Chunk mentioned in this thread: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=10779 (Provided by Griffin-X) I did this on mine using a leftover butt pocket and it worked great.
  7. Thanks all! PM sent, Darth. Any tips on removing the existing greeblie?
  8. I used an exacto with various blades on my soles. The dremel just sort of melted the rubber. Made quite a stink
  9. I'm ordering my KS bucket shortly, with the understanding I'll have to swap the snout greeblie. I'm having trouble sourcing an accurate one. DJD is out of stock on them currently. In looking, I found some 3D printing files for this bit, and there are a couple places in my community that offer access to a 3D printer (Not sure the cost yet tho). The digital images of the greeblie look spot on. Has anyone gone this route? Also, has anyone used a hardhat type suspension in their bucket? It looks like the LW has something like that but I couldn't tell for sure.
  10. Man, this is looking great! I hope my build goes this smooth
  11. Thanks, Sapper! I used THE tutorial. It's pinned at the top of the Boots forum and here's a link as well: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=903 For me, it was a great place to start my project, and get my confidence built up to tackle the rest. Not too tough, not too expensive, and definitely walked away with the feeling "hey, I can do this!" I pretty much followed it exactly, and if something wasn't clear I just hit the forums. The answers are there. Or anyone would be happy to point you on the right direction.
  12. I'm still kicking around taking the top of the back notches out, Chex. My concern is that then the top and bottom notches would be pretty much equal size and it looked to me like the top notches were smaller than the bottom. On my next pair I think I'll try tighter, thinner cuts more like Marcel does. Those look sharp
  13. All I can smell is E-6000 and warm vinyl. I'm living in constant fear of finding that one last thumbtack with my bare foot, but... My boots are done! For my first try I'm pretty pleased. Now, armed with a little knowledge and enough left over material, I think I'll scoop up another pair of base boots and make another pair. Please let me know what you guys think!
  14. I ended up going with my jacket size and the "long" option, and it fits like a champ. Came super fast too! Now I have to deal with the riding patch attachment. Fingers crossed...
  15. I had a very Pathfinder-Full Christmas, and was able to start getting some things together for my rig - flightsuit, gloves, and boot materials. I never thought I'd be asking for Jo-Ann Fabrics giftcards! I decided to have a go at the heel carving and am pretty happy with the result. The boots are Texas Steer ($20 from Kmart) and are very light and fairly comfortable for the price. And if I blew it, $20 isn't too much of a hit... I tried a few different patterns sketched out onto the heel before hacking away with X-Actos, and the one I liked the look of best is below. It's not exact, but i thought it looked the best working with the existing tread and contours. Any comments or critiques are very much appreciated.
  16. I decided to get some soft parts together via some Christmas Amazon gift cards. I ordered a pair of gloves from WampaWear (it looks like they may be discontinuing them?) I also ordered a RedKap Acton Back coverall. In the Amazon reviews, comments on the sizing were all over the place. Just right, fits as stated, way too small... what are anyone's experience with the fit of the RedKap in general and under your armour in particular? Also, any thoughts on the KS 'bund? Thanks y'all. Happy new year!
