RedKap are usually the least expensive. Most of us get them from www.automotiveworkwear.com for about $25. And if you sign up on their site, they have 10% off coupons all the time.

Looking great Stasz! Looks like the stuff pointed out so far is minor. Nice work.

Thanks. The first cut didn't go so well. I made a few rookie mistakes. I didn't use a fresh Exacto blade as well as not using the correct blade. I tried making the cuts into the rubber and then see-sawing a regular blade into the rubber to remove the unwanted portion. This looked like bantha poodoo. Once I quit being lazy and got out the chisel tip blade for the Exacto it was like buttah. I had my marks on the soles where I wanted to cut. And I inserted the chisel tip blade into the sole. Then, with the blade still in the boot, I cut down with a second Exacto and the little bit just popped right out. Once I figured out what I was doing, I had both boots done during an episode of Archer.

If you look really close on the one available screen used helmet for study, it looks like it is the elastic chin strap that is threaded through the plastic. http://www.starwarshelmets.com/star_wars_helmets_review_original_jedi_biker_scout_trooper_helmet.htm

Boots are done. At least I think so. I'm sure I forgot some super important part.
-
The measurements for the calf section were off by 2" on my first attempt so I ripped it apart and remade it. I like the new version much better.
-
Starting to look like a boot! I am thinking it will look better once I break them in and do some weathering. Now on to the left side.
-
For my boots, I started with a pair of Himalayans work boots. They were the first ones I found with a single color sole. I notched them all the way around to look more similar to the originals. I am currently using the tutorial in the boot section to make them into sexy white go-go boots.

The pouches were constructed with a heavy trigger material using the pattern here on BSN.
-
I figured it was time to actually start a WIP thread. My flight suit is a modified Red Kap coverall. I completely deconstructed the collar, shortened it, and added the extra material on. The riding patch and mud flap is actual suede since I am building towards Lancer standards and the legs were taken in.

Boots are Himalayans from eBay. Here is the eBay sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321687371678?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=510591063069&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

My first attempt at carving up a pair of boot soles and I would like some feedback while I take a break before diving into the second one.

Best advice any potential member can ever be given is to find the local 501st Squad in their area. You are guaranteed to find people who have had to make the same decision when assembling their kit and made mistakes so you can learn from them. Most, if not all, Legion members are more than happy to help to guide a new member through the pitfalls of making their first costume. You have a distinct advantage (I may be biased) of being within the borders of the Florida Garrison. We are an extremely large Garrison with several active Squads. Your location says that you are in Orlando, which puts you square in Makaze Squad territory. So let's help you reach out to the local members. The Florida Garrison forum. Make sure to register here (if you haven't) and introduce yourself. http://www.fl501st.com/boards/ The Florida Garrison on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/TheFloridaGarrison The Makaze Squad on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/MakazeSquad Reach out to folk on any of these locations and you will find a lot of members ready to help you out. And you can never go wrong with reading posts and tutorials to see what mistakes others have made and what tricks work to get you approved. Hope this helps!

Question about the vertical ribbing on the boots. Does this mean that the notches need to only be carved on the heel part of the boot, and not the front half, or toe portion, to comply with Lancer standards? Or was this supposed to say "sole."
-
Having made several pouches, I can attest that it is quite a bit easier and makes for sharper corners. But I can see why it wouldn't pass with the seam there. I was just curious what others thought.
-
I came across a method of creating box seams that would make it about 100 times easier to put pouches together. The difference is, it puts the seam on the middle of the side instead of the corner. I am curious if anyone else make them this way and/or if it is a disqualifier. As you can see, from about a foot and a half away you cannot see the seam without really looking for it. Note: This is a not a finished pouch, only one I threw together for proof of concept.

My DP Bucket Modification
DarthShlomo replied to DarthShlomo's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
If you a definite guide on how to convert one of these buckets, you need the guide made by Heathrowtrooper. http://website.lineone.net/~hollis_wood/trooper/avatar/TB-RubiesMod.pdf The wire is simply a sturdy coat hanger. And the two part epoxy putty is Quicksteel Plastic Repair that I picked up at my local Autozone. (This stuff is fraking amazing) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/CarGo-QuikSteel-plastic-tank-repair-kit/_/N-255s?itemIdentifier=344797 Hope this helps! -
My DP Bucket Modification
DarthShlomo replied to DarthShlomo's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I got the helmet deconstructed. I cleaned up the edges and got the main shell straightened. The snout cleanup took a little work but I think it is coming along very nicely. I have the angle looking good with wire reinforcement. And a new back plate put in. I didn't have any white plastic. But it will be primered and painted anyway so no biggie. And I have a DV snout to put in when it is done. I opened it up a little bit so it is easier to get on and off. Here is the view from inside. I still have to finish covering the wire. The snout has a much better form now. More to come! -

Thanks for the info everyone! Yes, I got the one from Carlos. I'm looking forward to this project. -
Hello all. I recently acquired a 1997 Don Post biker scout bucket and I will be using the tutorial created by Heathrowtrooper TB-8751 of the UK Garrison to bring it up to standards. I recently brought a Rubies TIE bucket from crap to beautiful so this is not my first mod. It was actually quite a bit a fun and I am looking forward to this mod. And with such an amazingly well done tut by Colin I am confident this one will turn out fine as well. I have been reading through the pages of posts and trying to absorb everything before I begin so I know what the frak I am doing! But I still have a few questions so please indulge me. I have the accurate head bolt kit as well as the Trooperbay green lense. But there are still some items I will need. #1. The Snout. I have a PM out to Darth Vorhees for his casting of the snout piece with backplate. Will this fit well on the DP after cutting the old one away? Has anyone put one of these on a DP? Is the 1997 DP that horrible? Maybe with a decent paint job? Fine, I'll change it. lol #2. Decals. The decals on Trooperbay say they will fit "most" buckets. Does this include a DP? Does anyone have any experience using these on a DP? Thank you in advance for any advice as I start this.

This is a sticky situation all around. Many of us have been on the receiving end of delivery times not being met over and over because the manufacturer overextended themselves only to finally receive a sub par product because they are rushing to get promised order delivered. Not to mention the very valid concern from vendors with bad customers. I think a good place for us to begin would be to look at how some of the other Dets handle this issue and what works and doesn't work for them. This will help us from trying to reinvent the wheel.
-
Same here for that one in the pic. Do you have a pic of the one you made on your Red Kap? I'd like to see how you did the overlap.
-
Well, yeah. I'm pretty awesome already! Just ask anyone in Florida Garrison! LoL
