  1. Perhaps the 3m vinyl would be the way to go. Vinyl or plactic stretched over the belt as the top layer. Or like Mazik said...plastic for the belt. But dyeing the leather is like he said... It probably will not give you the finish you are looking for.
  2. I got stuck at the 9th clue and couldn't go any farther. What was the pass word there?
  3. At the time of E3, weren't all the Republic soldiers of every degree, placement and designation "Clones" with the exception of their Jedi Generals? So clone would thus become a generic designation. Perhaps there were some non clone enlistees and even conscripts after the disolution of the Old Republic and the rise of the new Empire. As to what different troopers are called, wouldn't that kinda depend on what licensed merchandising/marketing and Lucas Arts puts out?
  4. Is that the cotton based camo fabric they have there?
  5. They got some nice pictures to work from. I Filled my data base with pix. Yes I use other peoples' work to tweek my own. Thanks for the info though. The company does seem to have a huge variety of complete costume and costume pieces. I just added their stuff to my gallery of reference pics.
  6. Gsht and I will be doing some experiments on this boot idea ourselves as soon as we finish up the line of scout boots we got on our project table. We get quicker with every pass and are excited about trying our hand on something new. I think the toe flap and shin spats are the right way to go. I think the baseboots are pretty simular to the scout boots with just a different toe flap as opposed to a "dog bone" and shin spats clam shelled over the base boot. The painting is where the real fun begins.
  7. Are you doing the armor too? We are ready to jump on that. Got to get it done before C4 so we can have our brand new squard of BARCs.
  8. I just ordered the individual Trooper picture. I am glad to see some other activity besides the brain squasher that Army Scout has us entangled in. I am getting so frusterated with the second clue. The first one was a piece of cake....but anyway it seems to be the only action on the boards right now.
  9. I would be interested in doing a fem version of this armor. Let me know when you guys get ready to start that.
  10. Wouldn't a khaki or tan flightsuit be more appropriate? You would want your base color to start off lighter than your add on colors wouldn't you? If you base color is too dark the "camo"ing would be too dark too. Just a thought.
  11. I have to giggle a little there....I thought it might be PIG fett or like pigfeet. Not meant as insult. Just that I wonder where people come up with their call signs.
  12. Your " quiet work" looks amazing. I have been saving all of the pics you guys have been generating for "go to " info for our after DC project book. I am astounded every time you guys started breaking down a detail. Your attention to detail is amazing. PS how would you say your call name here pghfett ?
  13. Excellent work, Sir! I can not wait to see more. You have a definite talent for paint. Ghst915 is not starting on his until after Dragoncon. We've got so many costume parts in the works right now. You should see the great job he is doing on Helmet Display diaramas. The stand tells a story without words.
  14. Got the bucket....Ghst915 is thrilled. Better than a big O to him. How can I top that?
  15. Ghst915 and have seriously jumped onto this bandwagon. He has been scrutinizing the reference pix and looking through web sites for materials and has drawn me into the picture. This is a whole other kind of scout and it is nice to be working in color again. Our monochromatic friends are a blast, but we love the jungle colors and doing something new. I can't wait to see this project completed and a squad trooping in to C4 in LA, CA will be awesome.
  16. Your work looks good so far. MY question is how do you plan to color your vest? Are you gonna dye it and hand paint the camo patterns? One problem I've had in the past is that elastic strips DO NOT take well to dyes. The polyester fibers donot take or hold the dyes well. I am not sure how it will do with the fabric paints. The ridging looks good. I think I would try to find a more natural fibered replacement for the elastic. Something made from cotton or hemp. Maybe even a very textured canvas like material like they use in strapping...not a nylon type. I will do a little research and see what I can find. The fabric I found today is called monks cloth and it is 100% natural cotton. I also found cotton strapping that has a nice texture too. Both of these fabrics will take dyes and fabric paints really well. I will post a picture as soon as I find either a googled picture of it or geta photo uploaded on my computer.
  17. I just have to say it....You are definitely going to have a nice shape with this. SO far it isn't a whole lot diferent than a corset. Can't wait to see the camo colors added.
  18. I really like this Chilean Army camo. But I'm an officer not in the field so I never get to wear camo. Its always my black Class A's when you work in an office. Maybe if I'm real good I can get some armor too.
  19. How does it compare for weight and durability? I mean which is lighter, more comfortable to wear. What stands up to wear better as far as breakage and chipping is concerned?
  20. Well put. I always love to improve on screen stuff. I've costumed a fan film or two and you don't have to have as good of quality to make it look good on screen, but up close and in person you really have to have it right or it looks wrong. Also on screen there are variants like dirt, wet or dry, blood, or other things that change the appearance of materials. The most important thing is whether it is recognizably the element that fans can identify. That is the magic.
  21. May I also interject just one more observation? 99.9% of all the clones, stormtroopers, BARCs, scouts, etc. were digitally created. Artist creations to Lucas's specifications. So getting it right is even more of a challenge because: 1) You have the program renderings which on some occations varied right in the same scene. 2) You don't have exact items that are purchasable, so modifications must be done to nearly every item purchased to create the look. 3) Depending on the quality and settings of what you are reviewing your images on (i.e. computer, DVD player, television etc.) The colors, details, and appearance of items will be varied. I guess my question is, "Can you really get an absolute 'cannon' rendition of an item? Or is that something that the larger part of the collective votes on due to general concensus?"
