  1. Top work Gents!!!! I tried talking to HI Tec a couple of years ago and spoke to the Managing Director eventually, he explained that the design drawings were destroyed 12 years post final production. I tried to get a dialogue going in order to see if a run would be possible. I didn't hear anything after that and subsequent correspondence went unanswered. If you can get a result then we'll done!!!! That would certainly be very cool indeed. I recently (ok quite a while ago) got a woodland camo pair from Dart with a view to getting a 3D scan of the sole. Once tidied up then a CAD/CAM file can be used to make moulds for new soles. I then planned to attach them to the uppers of a set of palladiums. A bit of a hybrid but the end look should be good I hope. The good news is that the 3D scan is complete and the vectors need to be tidied and details added. Not my field but I'm going to give it a go. Downside is that I'm in the UK Military and currently in the U.S. Until mid October. All my projects take a long long time as I spend on average about 5 months a year overseas. Keep up the good work fellas and I sincerely hope you have more luck than I did!!!!! There is a thread buried in the boots section with the actual email I got from Hi-Tec. Andy.
  2. Don't want to cause a fuss Rob but I have an image from the same scene and the rivet looks au naturale to me. Maybe my eyes are old and knackered but for the sake of continuity I thought I'd mention it!!! The MOM Scout has unpainted rivets but we may be dealing with on screen lighting causing some difference in appearance????
  3. Tags, please accept my lack of communication. I had to disappear for a last minute job and have now returned to the UK. I'll get the gear to the posty on Friday afternoon and get a price for you. I had to go at short notice so couldn't get in the boards before I went, again please accept my apologies. A.
  4. I'm at work until tomorrow afternoon buddy but I'll wrap em up and get a price for you. Do you want them all? Andy.
  5. Ok buddy, I've rifled through my box of old uniform and I have three shirts and one pair of windproof trousers. The shirt sizes are: Height/Chest - 170/96 (x2) and 170/104. The trousers are: Leg/Waist/Seat - 76/88/104. All of these sizes are in cm. You'll have to find a tape measure and see if they are plausible for you. If you want them, I'm happy to part with them for the price of postage. Andy.
  6. I've still got a box full of them in my garage. They were issued to me so I can vouch for their authenticity. I'll have a route through this weekend and see if I've got anything that maybe suitable. No promises as they could be a mishmash of sizes as I was quite skinny when I joined up. Not so skinny now though :-).
  7. Its not very interesting but it appears to come from backpacker magazine issue 44.
  8. I can only surmise that they are the III's as I have a copy of a magazine from around the mid 80's and those were the ones on sale at the time.
  9. I spoke to Si from RS a couple of weeks ago and they're almost there with their helmet. They are releasing it as built for the movies so it maybe a little too fragile for trooping as it will be 2mm abs.
  10. Inter and Hi-Tec were the same company. Only Hi-Tec remains I'm afraid. I think the type of sneaker we're looking for is the Sierra Sneaker III and I think we'll be hard pushed to find them I'm afraid.
  11. Time to give Rob and Si a call I feel gents!!!!
  12. These pics may help??? As discussed, the Don Post is more sqat than the LW but there are numerous dimensions that are identical. That explains the differing look between them.
  13. I'd plump for a two part epoxy mate. Araldite here in the UK is what I use for all sorts of stuff.
  14. Nice start!!!!! Looking forward to more.
  15. Congratulations Ian, welcome!!!!!!!
  16. You won't regret it. I spent ages on it and used a guide that Rob sent me, it was most helpful. If I've got anymore progress photos floating around I'll upload them into the album I linked earlier in the thread. If you want more I can take some of it as it is now. Unfortunately it's pretty battered as I moved home recently and it didn't travel well. It's half the reason I'm going redo it. Good luck and if you need anything at all hit me up. Andy.
  17. Hi David, top idea this! I bought a couple of pairs of these a year or two ago now to do the same thing, unfortunately I never got around to finishing them though. I did however show Marcel a picture of them (if he can remember that far back! . ) and he suggested that the toe end of the boot would need to sanded back or you end up like I did having a bulbous boot toe. So how do you sand soft rubber I hear you cry? I put my boot in the freezer (bare with it, I got that advice from a rubber forum, oh and not the type that Rob is no doubt thinking about!!!!!). This hardens the rubber enough to Dremel it away. It will ultimately give you the smooth toe look of the originals. I've gone one further and removed all the seams that could also show through once you cover in vinyl. I'll throw up a picture or two to show what I mean later today as I'm away from home. These boots will look awesome once you're done as its a much closer base boot to the original than the builders boots we're all used to using right now. Good luck completing them and I can't wait to see how they turn out.
  18. Thanks Darth Voorhees, as I used a screen helmet for sizing them both, they are in fact exactly the same size but the blinder and snout are slightly different. I'll take a side by side shot mid week as I'm away from home to show a comparison.
  19. When I first did my Scout I got hold of a Don Post and modded it to look as close to the original as possible. I used the BSN gallery images and as Rob suggests, I found my helmet very close to the original dimensions. The most obvious error being the flaring at the bottom of the snout and that fact the snout also had a left leaning bias too. I cut the snout out of mine and corrected the asymmetry too. What a difference it made. So again Rob was right when he said that we sometimes see what we expect to see. I did have to carry out some major reshaping (on more than one occasion) and I think I got pretty close. I made some newbie mistakes along the way and in the end it was way too heavy to troop in (thank goodness for a LW replacement). It's my intention to revisit my original helmet and make it a truly awesome display helmet as its not much use for much else. Here's a link to the mod folder and it shows how the DP can be made to look as expected (or close in my case). http://s1202.photobucket.com/user/ringbolted/library/Biker%20Scout%20Build?sort=3&page=1
  20. You certainly saw the right pair. Inter and Hi-tec made four iterations of the Sierra Sneaker. I still don't know which one they used on screen though. As far as I can tell the only obvious difference (and important one for us!!) is the horizontal line around the sole.
  21. Chaps if you go back a page you'll see the email that the Global Director sent me. It confirmed what I'd already spoke to him on the phone about. I think that approaching Hi-Tec to do a run would be worth a go but I'm not sure he was just being polite when I asked about it. From the way this thread is going I'm not sure we're really getting anywhere tbh. So I'll ask the question: Are we gonna make these ourselves or go to Hi-Tec? I' spent two hours today convincing our machine shop the virtues of milling some sole moulds for us. They are up for it but I'm not going to waste their time if we're just gonna approach Hi-tec. They can also clean up the 3D scans and add the missing sole details. They are up for a challenge and I think this is it. They are relatively quite for the rest of this month and then they're going to be maxed out until the end of September!! Sorry to be like this gents but we need to make a collective decision and make a start. Having looked through this thread, it's still where it started. I don't wish to sound derisory or insulting to anyone, as I want the same outcome as you but I really don't have any more spare capacity myself or wish to waste the time of a fully loaded machine shop needlessly. On the flip side we could do both!!! If the Hi-Tec approach is no good then we've lost nothing. Discuss
  22. So do I mate!!! Slow and steady wins the race. Any snags, give me a bell and I'll try to help as much as I can.
  23. Piece of cake Rob once put into 3DS Max. It'll need some cleaning up, but the textures look ace (they're the hard bits!!!). I'll post up the attempt I made from scratch later so you can see what can be done so to speak. Disclaimer: I'm still learning so patience is essential. Us artistic types can be a touch sensitive (eh rob??? ). We'll get there eventually chaps. It's taken a long time to get this far, so a little longer will be worth the wait!!!
  24. Thanks Rob!! I did talk directly to the Global Product Director and through him to the MD. They no longer have the design drawings as Rob has mentioned but he did allude to the fact they wouldn't pass out of hand looking at redoing them if the market existed. He also didn't say that they would either!!! I suppose it's time to let the cat out of the bag; I've been learning the ins and outs of 3DS Max for a month or two and I decided to cut my teeth on the sole design; so I've been working on this from another angle. There are many Asian companies capable of making them for a reasonable cost. My idea was to then use an accurate sole on a similar to original donor boot (i.e palladiums). We're all aiming for a result here and it looks like it's time to see if we can get this off the ground together!! Philipp, the scans alone will be worth their weight in gold as they're as accurate as possible. They can be scaled and used to produce soles in all sizes. We might not get it right first time, or even the second, but in my vho, it's time surely to get away from those dreadful work boots and get something worth wearing!! For the Command Staff: I'm more than willing to pick up the baton and try to get something we can strap to our feet. A.
  25. Hi guys, the build piccies for my helmet found at the link below. All the helmet shots are scattered about my other scout build phots. http://s1202.photobu...%20Build?page=1 I hope these help as I didn't take that many build shots. A.
