OK so here I i will post a few pics for my thigh pockets and a rough sketch of what I used to make them and the flap. Im sure some of you out there have sewing experience and will wonder what I was thinking, but I just made it up as I went. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and I hope that this doesn't seem too daunting to anyone. Just get some fabric and a sewing machine and make a few test runs to get a feel for it and have at it. I hope this helps. Sew the velcro on the pocket before you sew it to the pants, I forgot to and decided to do it by hand. Picture from below. Close up of pocket flap Diagram for pocket. The fractions are to account for about .25 inch on the corners. Flap diagram

I would be happy to show close up pics and the "template" I used and measurements if it would help.

a possible material for a cummerbund
Fettski replied to Fettski's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper Soft Parts
thank you, I have given up on the corduroy. my method for giving it strength was to use it 2 ply with batting inside. i have taken a break while i get my pants right then gloves then back to the cummer. -
moved and resized. look good now?

That level of detail is not really necessary and will probably be a requirement of a Lancer type status. MOLLE is what military equipment use for attachment points for equipment on backpack and body armor. It has a horizontal webbing not the vertical that the KT has.

I took all of the exterior pockets off the pants and shirt then pulled all of the stitches out and removed the velcro from the pockets as well. I left the rear and hand pockets since they will barely even be noticeable. I am in the process of finding just the right size and location for my pockets and for my size, i am thinking 4x6(thanks Mosi for confirming what I was thinking) and the right height (thanks MrBungle) with a 1 inch depth. I think I will use a block of foam to keep the shape and see how it feels whan I get more of the costume together. I like the idea of washable grey suede. Please post how that works for you since that will be the next part i work on after pockets are finalized and dyed.

I think i am happier with my left leg. the higher one.
-
thank you. pinning the other side up a little higher and i will post a pic. size look good?
-
please comment, I am about to do the other leg and want to make sure im on the right path before I dye them this weekend.
-
Anyone willing to order one for me until I finish my costume?

Wish I could be more help. They look good so far. To remove the material, a little unconventional, but something similar to a cuticle cutter might work well.

Have you looked at the tutorial? It looks pretty do-able. Im in the middle of my Kashyyyk project or I would be working on a TB.
-
im testing my method on old acu's the same material as the dpm's. What do you guys think? a better pic may be difficult. Let me know if this pic isnt enough detail. I know the flap is missing but thats the easy part.

kashyyyk trooper/pathfinder 501st shirt discussion.
Fettski replied to mrbungle's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper HQ
I'm really not feeling the badges with the knives. I really like the tri badge. If non 501st members can get 1 count me in, if not, just hold it for a few months. -
I like them. they look pretty comfortable too.

thank you i have all pockets removed. i was planning to put new pockets on and dye without riding patch. can you explain why i should dye then put pockets on? i'm going with 5x7x1 with a 3.5 inch flap and the corner cut off. basically 5 inch at top of flap and 4 inch at bottom. I concur, that is what i saw in the ref pic. and thanks for the feedback.

And I'm thinking these are done. Anyone agree or disagree? Before I take my pics for submission, I will probably weather them when I have the armor.
-
Can someone please post close up pics of their thigh pockets. Please. I am getting ready to do the pockets then dye them. I can handle the sewing, just not sure how to construct the pocket and could use some inspiration.

The connection of the vertical strips in the cg pics does seem to show some horizontal stitching. if you look closely on this pic from skupilkinson, it appears that there is stitching at the top. also on another image it appears that about halfway down there is another row attaching the strip to the cummerbund. It is also safe to assume that if this was actually made in real life that it would have to have some kind of attachment similar to the military M.o.l.l.e. system. I hope this helps.

white paint coming soon. how does the tread look. I'm thinking I'm done with it.

Welcome Colleen, glad to see other WIP's

Thank you, I appreciate the suggestions. I was planning to mod it exactly as you said. Just didn't want to start cutting stuff off until someone said they look like a good base.

thank you. i noticed the vents after i chose the boots and started working on them. I am hoping that the toe cap overs it or i might have to "weather" it. i have a little more work done and i will post updated pics soon.
