  1. Come on guys.... don't feel hard done to. The previous costume standards for Scouts were rubbish. Let's be honest here. The original CRL was missing so many bits from the screen used costume that it was criminal. The fact that there were integral parts to the costume too, just made this worse. It'd be like clearing a TK without the themal det or drop boxes attached to the belt. It just wouldn't be done. So rather than feeling like the fence has been put up around you, you should all be feeling like someone left the stable door open in the first place! Plus it's not like they are difficult bits to achieve either. The materials required are cheap..... Much cheaper than Marcel estimates. The flak vest can be made with an old T-shirt and a bit of padding. Faux Suede is cheap from eBay (£3.50 for a metre, which plenty), elastic is even cheaper. The greeblie will cost you £2.50. Then there is just time and patience (possibly the rarest commodities). Sewing the bits in doesn't require the total destruction of your suit. The flap is one stitch line across the back, which you can do by unzipping the front. The crotch bit, granted is a bit of an arse, but if you've got a decent machine (one that does legs, unlike mine) then it's a doddle, and if you're sewing by hand, then it matters not anyway! The straps get put in at the same time. Making the parts will add about an extra 2 days onto your build..... WOW.... A whole weekend! As for being warned. Well. You now know. It has already been pointed out that you DON'T need to comply with the updates, you can grandfather over your current cleared costume (personally, I don't agree. But hey, I don't make the rules), but if you DO want to, then you are under no time pressure to complete it. If you're mid build, then really it's not that much of a drama. It's not like you've got to chop up bits of armour that will no longer fit. So there is no need to go chewing Marcel out about all this. The point remains that they SHOULD have been included in the first place. This has been too long in coming if you ask me. I've got them, have done from the start. I've never had any intention of going Lancer........ (that's another story). I'm going SCREEN ACCURATE.
  2. And about time too..... I doff my cap (or would if I had one) to Marcel and the Team for taking the time and grief to get this implemented. I know it's been a bit of a slog.
  3. yeah... sorry. I'll go and stand in the corner......
  4. well, the debate rages on!! I've got some screen grabs, but I have to apologise about the quality. My HD TV is a relatively old Sony, and I've no facility to take a direct screen grab via computer, so I've had to use my camera taking a pic of the TV!! But here we go. This first one is from the back-door ambush scene, when the scout runs around the bunker after Han. These images are taken from the Speeder Bike Chase scene These all seem to show the indent on the long edge (top/bottom debate) across the bottom..... which would put the cylinder on the outside. This one, also from the same scene, shows a different lighting angle, and appears as though it has no detail at all!! even more confusing. This one here seems to show the cylinder on the inside (as you frame by frame it, you can sort of see it more clearly), which would say the notch is across the top. So in essence, for me, the jury is still out. If someone who has the ability to do a direct screen grab via the PC to get a decent quality picture, then that's probably the way forward.
  5. It will vary from trooper to trooper, but I generally work on a spacing of an inch. If you're small (lucky you....), then it will be less than this. I can't see it being less than 3/4 inch though. Just make sure there are SEVEN stitches (resulting in 6 vertical ribs), and they are EVENLY spaced, and you can see them all between the pouches. I normally sew one straight down the middle (that will be the middle of your body when it's worn), and then do 3 stitches on either side.
  6. well, I have now got the BluRay for Chribble... When I get back home I'll see if I can drag off any decent screen grabs. It's maddening. When you look at the 'BluRay walkaround', it not only means that they've got the TD mounted the wrong way up..... they've then mounted the greeblie the wrong way up on the already wrong way up TD!!! Shocking! These people should be shot.... The empire shouldn't stand for such shoddiness.
  7. I'd say "if it was in the film' then yes..... You wouldn't drive a Ferrari with no wheels on it now would you!
  8. Yeah, agreed here. It's warm, and you'll sweat. But it's not like being stuck to the surface of the sun. Know your limits, listen to what your body is telling you. Take regular breaks and take on plenty of water, you'll be fine. I quite happily troop for 8 hours a day in mine. The odd break in the changing area for a "lids off" and a refuel (haribo and water!..... Those UKG members will know what I'm on about.) and I'm good to go. If you've worn body armour/helmet for extended periods, you'll know what to expect. Just feel safe in the knowledge you'll not be humping a GPMG about!
  9. they are weird, that I'll give you. If you look at this picture of an ALICE Clip... imgres You might be able to see where I'm going with this.... Remove the locking bar (the one with the loop at the top) and then bend the bottom section around so it secures into the det somehow (haven't got that far yet!). You'd have the metal hook to drop over the belt. Would it be suitable?? Are they too wide?? I don't know. But it's worth a shot to see how it looks. Those of you in the states should be able to pick up ALICE clips by the bucket load in surplus shops.
  10. Aye, both me and Rich have used these out on our own Bikes, and I can attest to, not only are they probably the most accurate and cheapest gloves you're ever likely to find. They also make superb bike gloves too.... Why consider anything else?
  11. Yeah, if you look here... http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?app=gallery&image=64 you can see the four little hooks going over the belt. Now ALICE clips are not what they are..... That much we know. Admittedly, I think if you modified an ALICE clip, by taking out the locking part and shortening it down, it might just work. Now, on my own TD and I know it's not truly canon, but I've gone for a similar style belt hook to what's on a TK. But to make it look more like the screen used bits, I've painted them white and then done the edges in black pinstripe. They are pretty hidden behind the thermal det, so you don't really see them unless you specifically look. Curiously I don't have a picture of it to hand. I'm sure I've taken one somewhere.
  12. Stick the greeblie on the other way up buddy. (is that a DJ one by the way?? Been helping him out with that). From the BluRay, the cylinder part of the greeblie is on the outermost part of the thermal det. It's just on the BluRay they've got the det on upside down! PS, I need to chat to you at some point. I'll drop you a PM over on the UK Garrison forum.
  13. Hahaaa!!! I see your velcro and raise you Velcro with a Popper in the middle!!! no costume failures for me either! I've used a system of elastic braces which go on the bund under the flak vest, and poppers/velcro that attach the bund to the armour (front and rear). I am currently getting an issue with my new belt slipping down, so I think it's going to get a liberal dose of velcro on that blighter too.
  14. Hey Paul. Good to see things have started... I'm sure it has been tried. I can't see why it wouldn't work. You'd effectively be making the bund and flak vest into a one piece. Sort of like some sort of nappy infused catsuit! Me, on the other hand have them separate. I find that the back-plate armour on mine tends to pull the chest plate up, simultaneously throttling me and creating a gap between my bund and the chest armour. I cured this by adding a couple of poppers to the top of the bund and the bottom of the inside of my chest armour. These join together, holding the chest/bund in place. Stops the bund falling down, and stops the chest riding up!
  15. I did the same as Marcel..... but with used engine oil. Why not get the effect of oil splatters, with real oil! And it doesn't wash out all that easily, and when it does, it only adds to the weathering effect. Same goes for mud and grass. Also, for a decent Mud effect, get some brown paint (I used a citadel version), add in a spot of olive drab, a dash of black.... And then add some Fuller Earth powder. This is Army decontamination powder, you should be able to lay your hands on something similar. Mix it all together and hey presto, decent mud. It should be quite thick and dry. Wipe it on, let it dry. Rub off the excess. et voila.
  16. it's funny... they look far too weathered when they are all in bits on the floor, but when it's on, it looks OK. Just need to do your bund and pouches now.
  17. I know what you mean Dave... Hence me asking the question. Done and dusted then.
  18. Phew... At least people are thinking the same way as me! It's nice to get a consensus of opinion.
  19. This is my issue... Something has to be wrong here. On the screen grab, the bund closes with the open edge towards the rectangular greeblie. On the Costume Reference (Blu-Ray), it the bund closes with the open edge towards the round greeblie. So they're different.... So.... do we go with the screen grab as being the Canon reference, in which case, the thermal det on the BluRay is mounted on upside down (it matters in terms of the greeblie orientation) or do we go with the BluRay reference? You see my plight! The devil is in the detail, and I'm trying to get the Tutorial spot on.
  20. Hola, I'm just in the process of updating the UKG Biker Scout tutorial with the new Blu-Ray stuff, and I've come across a small conundrum. So here we go.... Take a look at this screen grab (from the old normal res, gallery). http://forum.bikersc...llery&image=351 As we all know, this shot is a flip, with all the details such as tank stripes, helmet details etc, being on the wrong sides. So far so good. Now look closely at the det... The round detail part appears on the left hand side as you look at it. No drama I hear you cry... it's a flip.... but then check out this Blu-Ray grab (as posted by Chimei) TB-TDgreeblies.jpg The detail parts are still the same way!!! Is this a flip too? What do we think. ****edit... I can't seem to add HTML image tags to the pics, sorry chaps, you'll just have to click.****
  21. Just as a curio.... Has anybody identified what model kit this little greeblie came from? What I mean, is... We know the snout came from a fawcet (spelling?? we call them taps in the UK) and a Tamiya model kit of a motorcycle engine. So do we know where this one came from? Here's a pic of my rough guesstimation I knocked out this afternoon. A long way from being finished, but it's a start. dimensions are 20mm high x 42mm wide.
  22. I can see John's point in this. If you look at this Screen grab. It's about the only one where we can see all three together. I don't know if someone has some funky measuring software at all, which would make this much easier. I'm just going by eye. If we take the Thermal Det (main body of) as being about 5 or 5.1/2" wide, the butt strap looks to be about half the width of that, maybe slightly more (ouch, that'll sting a little), so putting it about 2.5". Or in our Metric world, close to 65-70mm If the Drop straps are 1.5" (40mm), and the thigh straps are wider, but not as wide as the Butt Strap, then 2" (50mm) sounds fair. But looking at the picture, the drop straps do look a similar size to the thigh straps, so the waters do get a little muddied. It gets further muddied when you look at the MOM exhibit (which I hate to use as a reference). The butt strap on that doesn't look as wide as in the screen grab. Throwing everything out again. So.... You be the judge!
  23. Try these. As you can see your screen accurate options are 1, 4 or 6 stripes. The Main tank stripe I think is about 2mm wide. I use car pinstriping tape and works fine. As Christian has said, if you go 6 stripes, they seem to be a similar size. The 1 and 4 stripes seem to be thicker, I'd estimate about 4mm. Hope this helps. Cheers now Rob.
  24. As I've said over on the G. This is a work of ART!! John, you have lots to be proud of. looking forward to seeing this come together.
