Are any of these 3d Printed blasters worth it?
Darth Voorhees replied to TB-1599's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Weapons
i may be biased since i make scout pistols, lol but i never liked the 3D prints of them. They usually arent very accurate and the print lines would be a nightmare to remove. There is something you can brush on that smooths it out, but then you lose details. That said they are considerably less expensive than the rubber or resin ones usually floating around, so if your on a budget they will likely fit the bill until you want to upgrade. Out of the ones yo posted, the procoprint3d one looks the best for a 3D print. the Stormtroopershopuk one i dont believe is a 3D print, and it looks pretty nice. -
Review of the DVH V2 EC-17 Hold Out Blaster
Darth Voorhees replied to Retrofire's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Weapons
Just wanted to bump this up because its better for other folks to speak of my work rather than myself Also, I will be back at making these After Celebration, so anyone interested can message me after Celebration and i'll get run going -
They are def approvable when modded. Ive seen quite a few that came out very very nice. Crex looks like he did a great job on it! Here was one that i did a littel while back http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13160

Older armer ID assistance.
Darth Voorhees replied to mjhenks's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Yea that ones new to me as well. Never saw that. The chest resembles SC but other than that it looks all over the place. The chest as the back with the hump locating piece on it is mildly humorous lol. But yea, ever seen this so i couldnt be any help identifying it. But like was said it wouldnt be approvable...... for multiple reasons. -
Helmet Snout Greeblie - What color grey do we use?
Darth Voorhees replied to haribon72's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
yea def the primer..ive used krylon primer in the past. DONT go gloss, use matt or satin if you want to finish coat it. -
wow...wowie wow wow. they look fantastic!

As was said, attached to the bund is correct for accuracy. But you can get cleared with them attached to the armor with velcro as well, as the final look remains the same. I've had them attached both ways and personally liked them attached to the armor better. If your bund shifts or sags a little bit your pouches are still butted against the chest armor which looks as is should.

Glad you were able to work that out! Also i realized when i did this mod it was before i made blasters so it was done on i think it was the blaster that SC links to. so there may be a difference in size in that area. I do remember there not being such a big gap , it just wasnt sitting flush..i think i only needed to add a quarter inch of plastic. BUT i am glad this can be worked out though.

Unfortunately i never took pics of the wifes holster and she no longer has the armor. If i recall correctly i did pretty much the same thing i did with the MC holster but i added a couple of pieces fo ABS underneath the magnet to boost the magnet higher up. You could also use another magnet to boost it higher and get more pull. If i had a SC holster here i may be able to show how to get it to work but i dont have one on hand. You basically just need to make that area flatter on the SC holster i think. Hopefully what i just said makes sense and you can figure something out based on it!

That helmet is the beees knees! lol....looks awesome!!! It is crazy how close the LW is eh? -
He is our former Detachment leader. He really isnt a prop maker per se, but he did build his own scout sniper rifle that came out fantastic. thats probably the blaster build posts you saw He also does cummerbunds and pouches

Cleaning biker scout helmet lens
Darth Voorhees replied to Torm's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Like Stroker had mentioned, its likely a green visor similr to a welders shield (alot of us use those) or a tinted piece of acrylic. Using clear acrylic/plexi and putting automotive tint on it is usually a bad idea for these helmets and causes more problems than anything. I dont know of any vendor who does that. That said ive used windex, automotive window cleaner or novus polish 1 for cleaning the lens with no issues with any of them. You can also use rain-x or catcrap...yes there is a product called catcrap lol...to prevent fogging. Thecatcrap actually works really really well for anti-fog. -
Mickey, those are original old stock KW has, not replicas..but i think you knew that and maybe your phone thought otherwise? LW makes a great replica set though!

Review of the DVH V2 EC-17 Hold Out Blaster
Darth Voorhees replied to Retrofire's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Weapons
wow..thanks for the great review, im blushing lol...but im glad you like it! Also glad you like the packaging and info on it. I thought it gave it a more professional look and also provided some useful info. I also like to have a bit of weight to it as well, just so i know its there in the holster lol. Glad you agree the weight is good retro!. I do plan to make a lighter version for anyone who prefers the lighter blaster. The magnet thing was something i did on an old blaster i had and really wanted to incorporate it into the blaster itself. I know alot of us like the idea of having something to hold it in the holster but still be able to pull it out when needed without issue and the velcro ripppp sound lol. Again glad your happy with that! Also if you want more pull strength you can add another magnet from the back/underside of the holster and you will get more pull on it. Thanks again for the great review, i am glad im making scouts happy..and armed! lol -
i have had MLC, KS, and LW. By far i like the LW the best. Looking to get an RS at some point.

Forehead Stripes On The Faceplate
Darth Voorhees replied to Dalas367's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
I dont think painting them on would affect lancer as long as they are stenciled on and look identical to the decals, not all squiggly wiggly lol -
Sgt. Carida's are nice. I use a basic one from trooper bay. I do however put my helmet in the bag, in my tote similar to what Jim said, i just like to have it in the bag for a little extra protection. Also if i end up at a con or event where im coming homw with product or swag, i have the option to carry the helmet on its own and free up space in the tote

LW V3 helmet build/mod..sort of lol
Darth Voorhees replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
thanks Thanks man...I know him pretty well, we chat all the time.. This is the third one ive owned lol. [i know half the BSN hates me right now lol] I traded him a Fett jetpack kit for this one. My previous helmet was an LW as well. Thats the one in my Avatar and signature. However i wasnt to fond of how a trimmed the visor. I made it very narrow, and although it looked ok, it always urked me. I actully got a replacement visor for it, but never fixed it. I had traded my previous Scout for a TIE pilot and that LW went with it. Now im building a nice new fresh one -
So after comparing my previous LW helmet to the EFX (which is cast from a screen used) at Celebration 7/Anaheim, myself and Gino were very impressed with how close LW managed to get his helmet to the real thing. There were only minor detail variations and a very minor size difference from front to back. The EFX was slightly longer front to back. maybe 1/4"-1/2" or so. Also the detail under the eye lens was softer as well as the "lines/indentations on the back. The traps were closer together on the back also. Other than those differences they were nearly identical. Recently i spoke to LW and he said he saw the RS in person and that his parts were interchangeable. thats how close they are. LW actually worked on the current Bikerscout helmet project (he did the AWESOME pilot variation one) and RS provided the helmets so he was able to see them up close. So fast forward to now..... i have had this V3 LW kit for a little bit now, maybe a month or 2 and havent had time to build it. I also didnt have armor to couple it with so i was in no hurry to build it. But now i have armor and am well on the way into my rebuild. So over the past week ive been working on this a little bit every night after working on commissions/orders. I decided to do something bold and bring the rear traps closer together and soften up the details that were very sharp on the LW. softening the details was easy. I just used a little autobody icing (basically a thinner version of bondo) to fill them in a little and it was pretty much done with 1 or passes of the icing. Moving the traps closer was a bit more extensive, but after thinking about it for a few days a came up with a plan. basically i cut the old ones out, and moved them closer together and filled the seams. So here is where i marked it to cut. toy can see how i cut them "off-center because i was going to play swap-a-roo... i then cut them out.. and then i "tack super glued" then back into place, swapped. What this did was fill most of the gap where i shifted them inwards due to the way i had cut them out. For extra support, and so when i bondoed the seams outside it had something to attach to, i put some fiberglass on the inside here it is after one pass of bondo and primer... here it is after a couple of bondo and automotive icing passes and white primer. The line indentations have also been made more shallow, and i removed the one on the far right and wided th one on the left matching a particular screen used helmet. here is the faceplate with the softened detail under the lens And here is where its at now, with white primer.

I go by ref pics/screen caps, but generally they should be about 3" -4" or so from the belt i believe.

Wow that is a bit dissapointing Yorkie Fett. I bet because it took them so long to actually get them pulled and assembled, that the painting process was rushed. Even with those flaws, i still kind of want one, also the reson i wanted a kit. Which at first they told me they would offer, which is why i didnt pre-order the built one, now they are saying they MAY offer it later on. Thats really what id be after. i want to build/finish it myself, to my own standards. Yea i am one of the lucky ones, ive had 3 LWs during my scout time lol. One is still in kit form that im going to build up for my current scout build. When i was at C7, i compared my LW to the EFX (which is also cast from an original, though fiberglass) and the LW was near a perfect match. the only differences myself and Gino found were the traps on the back should be closer together, the deepest inset under the lense should be a bit softer/not so deep, and looking at it from the top the EFX was a touch more oval/longer back to front, but it was very little. So over all, LW really has done an amazing job, especilly not having the real thing in front of him as reference. Im proud to own the LW.
