EFX to make a Biker Scout helmet from the original molds
Grendel_Blitz replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
Hey gang, Finally back from CVI weekend and I had an opportunity to have some detailed conversations with Bryan Ono at the eFX booth. Here is what he told me thus far... The displays are ONLY proto-types until the manufaturere gets the actual builds. The "Limited" will be 1000 qty run all clean made in fiberglass. The "Legend" will be offered in 100 or 500 qty (cannot rememeber which he said). The weathered one is the "Legend" and what makes this a Legend is that the helmet top, bottom and face plate will be cast in ABS. Bryan tells me that the visor will need to be cast in fiberglass due to manufacturing limitations ( do not know why so please do not shoot the messangger ). I also asked about a clean Legend and he said they did not know for certain but the weathered may be the only offered Legend Edition. Know for the BAD news (for many)... Projected pricing for the Limited may be $499-$599 and the Legend may be $899. Hurts!!! Some BETTER news: eFX will not be taking pre-orders until the end of the year so that give many of us some time to save $$$. NOTE: One more important thing is that eFX will be smoothing the inside of the visor on both so the fiberglass texture will not be seen. The inside visor will be smooth. Also, the visor on the Legend is better lined up where it meets the dome so this may also be corrected with the actual builds on both. My take is that the Limited is really nice up close despite some less than acurate details. The Legend is also nice but the weathering is just black paint spritz and not a good representation of a weathered look. I will probably focus my attention on the Limited version. Now for pics::: \m/ -

Nice post jkno! It is good to see what other forums are talking about and some more good pictures of the eFX helmet. One thing that we should all keep in mind is that eFX rushed to get the prototype to CC. As Bryan stated, their factory has not even seen the helmet. I believe that they will smooth out the so-called flaws with the final product once it gets to be that time. (my 2 cents) \m/ -
Quite a fine collection there! A side note: I used to have that Brandon Lee poster in my college room back in '94. I have the actual crow art from the CD cover tattooed on my back shoulder blade and I had the eyes added (circa 1994 as well). My tribute to a great man and a great movie (thanks James O'Barr). \m/

Neil, I agree with you on many of the points that you made about the interview. Good stuff! I did want to post a reply that I received from Bryan Ono as I emailed him the day the first image was released of the prototype. I asked him if he had any idea of the production time-frame in its release. Wanted to share with the forum (time-frame seems a bit soon to me but fingers crossed) ... \m/ FROM BRYAN::: Hi Matt! We just got the prototype the day before Comic Con, so our factory has not even seen it yet. We are anticipating pre-order in the fall Thanks! Bryan -

I just listened to it. Great find. Good to hear some "from the source" info on the helmet finally. I wish Gino would have had pricing and timeline specifics. Thanks Steve! \m/ -

Thanks Neil - these photos are awesome. Good to get a look under the hood as well. I am sold. This lid (lines and all) have me wanting one BIG TIME. After this becomes public, I am curious to see if any "fan mods" are born from it. \m/ -

Lonewolf's chin cups are ABS and the best I have seen yet. Highly recommended! Also, I recommend you grabbing some of his decals as they are also TOP-NOTCH!!! May as well since shipping from the UK is not the least expensive. \m/ -

Hey gang, I received my kit on Saturday and the pull is very nice and well done. Compliments to Jeff's work! Unfortunately, my head barely fits inside even before the nice padding would be added. (the included helmet pads are awesome too - a nice added feature). I have an MLCv1 and v3 and they fit my head but again, not much wiggle room in those either. Not sure about the KS as I do not have one. My only complaint, which Jeff is already looking into, are the decals. They need to be upgraded - LoneWolf has a fantastic set which would be great with this kit. It stands and that my Altmann's and the LW are probably the buckets of choice for me and my large cranium. Anyone with smaller heads (i.e. comfortable with an MLCv3), I recommend this kit. It does not seem difficult to build either - bonus. My 2 cents.... Thanks again Jeff as the production quality remains top-notch. \m/ -

SWEET!!!! Cannot wait - and Jeff; I am EZ with the scrutiny. I like the differences in many of the lids (as longs as they are not just-plain-ugly). A million thanks again! \m/ -

Rick... you are not messing around there, brother! I am looking forward to getting/building mine as well. \m/ -
Kudos to you Morten. You dug in and knocked the build out of the park. Way fast on your part! Enjoy Trooping in the TB!!! \m/

Awesome build bro. Now... take it to the woods and get DIRTY!!!! \m/

bummer... would fabric glue help out at all? I have real pig suede so I did not experience this issue. Hope you figure out a solution. \m/

They (SC) are probably slammed over there as I have not heard back from him about buying one of the sets... Patience is a virtue but one that I need to practice more often. \m/ -

If anyone orders this now, make sure that it is the same helmet as on this thread. I "think" the images on the site are an older version.... (I think...) Let us know - if anyone gets - one what you think. \m/ -

Typically there are 8 line depressions in the lid... Often debated between 7 and 8 but here are some screenies of actual LFL lids. The seem-fill in the construction of the helmets causes the differences.... depending on the LFL modeler that put the helmet together. -
A real snug fit indeed... This is my issue with many Scout lids. My melon is larger than most and most buckets are built for smaller heads. (My Altmann's is perfect with plenty of wiggle room but the MLCv3 is super nice as far as design) \m/

Strange - the kit prices were just posted (email received) and now I am not seeing them in this thread. Were they removed for some reason? The prices seemed very fair. Hope that they stick. Thanks Jeff! \m/ (I am ready for the "all pieces" un-assembled kit, when they are ready) -
The white paint turned out great. I will be painting a white and black Scout helmet possibly next weekend so I plan to come back to this post as reference. Nice job!!! \m/
