That sounds like a question for Ladyghst.
-
It's not going to be an explicit rule, but it is something we look for when we are examining Lancer candidates.
-
Hence, that's why the Lancer standards exist.
-
Great reference shots, Paul! The review committee will examine them this week and we'll be in touch with you. It's looking great so far.
-
The trick is that the movie camo scheme looks to be digital, like the modern U.S. Army BDU's. Replicating that on real armor will be a trick that someone needs to figure out and teach others how to do, using the same standard colors.
-
True, but why cover the same ground twice, right? Might as well do the work once. My worry is that, if the standards are too loose, you'll have people just painting woodland camo patterns or, worse, just green and brown splotches on their armor (you guys who know what I am talking about have seen this happen already). I may not be interested in doing a BARC trooper, but I don't want my comrades looking like ewok vomit, either. We have an image to maintain!

This is very tricky ground you guys have to cover. Without there being a real-life pattern with which to follow, maintaining a standard will be extremely difficult. I hope you don't mind a few suggestions from this outsider... perhaps a fresh perspective might be helpful. I think probably the first thing you all need to do is to settle on a collection of paint colors and manufacturers. You'd have to have equivalents for our UK and EU scouts, of course. If you could determine the Pantone colors, that would be ideal. This list will have to be updated from time to time because paint manufacturers discontinue paint colors regularly. The next step is to devise a standard practice for actually applying the paint in the proper camouflage pattern and make it available as a detailed tutorial with pictures, then set the standards up to state that using the agreed-upon paint colors above and the camo pattern made using this tutorial (in this combination) are the only acceptable ways to complete the look. Otherwise, you will have BARCS all over the place looking like mismatched socks, and we all know how stupid that looks...

Outstanding work, Mike! I may be a very infrequent visitor to the BARC side of the site, but you may just change my mind about this costume. MAY. Beautiful job, no matter what.

Seven strips using eight stitches.

Thanks, Jon! The three of us will review them and get back to you soon.
-
Just need a little clarification, Jon, but the puffy sleeves... are those from the undersuit or are they from the vest?
-
Hi, Jon, I like what I am seeing so far. Can you post detailed closeup shots of your t-bits and tank topper, please? Thanks.
-
I'll see if I can PM them to you, Ross. As for this thread I am going to have to lock it down. Yeah, I understand how frustrating things like this can be, but we cannot call someone out in public. He probably thought he had a cool idea for a costume and he put it together. It's a failure of the membership approval process that this inaccurate costume was admitted. Does it belong in the Legion? No, I don't think so, but this is something the detachment leadership will have to look into and discuss with the Legion Membership Officer.
-
Unfortunately, not everyone comes here and, even more unfortunately, standards have yet to be set so GMO's are still free to add people who have completely inaccurate costumes. Ross, these pictures are public galleries on the 501st site, so you can see them for yourself. For convenience, here's a LINK for you to follow. Draw your own conclusions.

Congratulations, Lancer. Very well done.
-
Wow. This is actually one of a very small handful of reasons that I would consider to get me to go to C4. Alas, I will not be there.
-
Correct-- it should be single rectangular flap. It looks like two pieces only because the groin strap (or "thong", as I like to call it) goes over it and makes it look that way. Whether the flap itself is sewn to the seat of the undersuit or whether it hangs from the belt (like on the Gentle Giant scout statue and bust) is a matter for debate.
-
Congrats to our first international Lancer! Way to represent across the pond, Simon.
-
Both tones are acceptable, but it would make more sense if only the pure white is worn on a clean scout (as seen on the Death Star), and the more "natural", weathered tone is used on a dirtied scout (as seen on Endor).

Simon, Might I suggest that you rotate your arm pieces, including your shoulder bells, around so that they cover the sides of your arms, rather than the backs? In your frontal pictures your arm armor is barely visible. Also, you need to wear your bicep pieces a little higher, closer to the shoulder bell and further from your elbow. I see this a lot in some scouts, so you're not the only one. -
It is my pleasure to announce that the Pathfinder Lancers have inducted its very first member. Please congratulate Mike (A.K.A. Bluecyclone) on becoming our charter Lancer. Mike has exemplified skill and professionalism since he first applied to become a Lancer. Every time he submitted his photos, and the selection committee (made up of the detachment staff) recommended an alteration, Mike took it and ran with it, fixing them without any complaint. In a detachment full of Pathfinders, Mike truly is a trailblazer and he will be held up as a standard for all those who follow. Congratulations, Mike. You have earned it!

Please read the description of the Lancer standards again. This is an optional level of accuracy for those who want to reach for it. It is not a requirement by any means.
-
Take your time healing, Jason. Your health is the most important thing right now.
-
You've shown incredible patience, Mike. Each time we wanted to see something changed, you just went and did it with no complaint. A true Lancer to the core.
