I have begun sculpting the chest plate, this is a very preliminary and partial sculpt so far. I'm just roughing in the sculpt at this point.

Looking at it so far you will see that it is "thick", this is to get it up to size for my chest. The armature is smaller in build than me but is good in length

The first thing I noticed about the chest plate is that it is curved on the bottom - not straight across and it is angled.

second, the chest plate is smaller that the Biker plate.

Also the side section of the chest plate will be extended further(knowing its short)

Any input is welcome on this as I rough in the sculpt...

I will give you some input as soon as I get home and look at a few images :)

Ditto on that. But from what I can recall, the chest armor for the BARC is REALLY small compared to the scout. It seems to end just under the pectoral area of the torso. On some pics, it seems really bulky and round, while on other shots (like Gree and BARC coming up behind Yoda) it seems really tight and fitted to the trooper.

Your completely correct, the BARC images vary considerably....The GRee BARC appears very thin. The bottom of the scultp appears to follow the chest curve under the pecks and angles up to the front from this area.

I guess we will have to find a happy medium.....

The variations probably derive from the fact that you have various levels of details for a model to be used in different shots. You don't use high poly models in a shot where the viewer is quite far from the character and or there is a mass scene etc. as it would consume too much rendering time. Time is money.

Also considering the fact that the clones in EP II use stylized anatomical proportions I tend to favour logical shapes in the armor. So I think the proportions as PGHFett used in his first attempt shouldn't be altered too much. You wouldn't mount a chestplate if a good amount of chest area is left uncovered. So I recommend only a slight lift...

Otherwise it would look funny in real life I think.

Mad,

I was hoping you would chime in on this... You are exactly right, and you said it way better than me lol :D .

It was the same issue with the helmet. Once again CG and real life don't mix, so-to-speak.

The chest sculpt above actually runs along that chest/rib line I was talking about, it can be made narrower "looking" by utilizing or reducing the chest area via the angle at the bottom.

Thanks Mad, your imput on this will be very very helpful.

I did some clean up and made a little progress on the chest plate. I have also decided to sculpt the rear plate and bulge at this time for symmetry issues and scale issues are more easily resolved at this time, plus we can all see the pics and make any changes we find needed and acceptable. On to the pics,

The chest plate is and will not be as flat as the BARC seen with Gree, it also will not be as "thick" on the bottom as seen on the sculpt, this angled edge can be reduced as needed.

PLEASE PASS ON SOME FEEDBACK good, bad or otherwise as I go along.

That's looking very cool. After seeing your BARC helmet on TDH, I have no doubt this will have the same caliber of quality.

I have finished the chest plate sculpt, I'll be posting pics for evaluation asap for any changes.

I am preparing to start the rear tank / back plate sculpt.

Just so everyone here knows, I've been talking with ARMYSCOUT about working details about the fabrication of the chest and armor pieces for the future. In a nutshell, I will be making FG castings but will be sending ARMYSCOUT a model so they can be vaccume-formed by him and his folks. This way we all can benefit from getting a set good BARC armor.

Myself and ARMYSCOUT have also decided to work on different sections of the armor to help speed up the process of getting a completed suit together for the Celebration!

ARMYSCOUT can give more details on this as we move along,

I think this is what a COMMUNITY board is for, co-operation in working towards a common goal for the benefit of all, ;)

I do have a question regarding the chest plate...

How do you envision the plate fitting the - uhm - more pectorally endowed memebers of the legion? I am no where near at flat chested as your manni, but I do want to build this armour for myself!

The chest armor sculpt is almost 6 inches deep - this is just the chest frontal area (not overall for goodness sake). Until I post pics of the back plate and chest plate together, only then will the "depth" be obvious.

Also, the above pics are deceptive considering it is just roughed in, much has been done since then and the next set of pics will be of the completed front and back.

I also wanted to note, the depth can be adjusted by how you "strap on" the armors shoulder straps, the "longer" the shoulder straps, the wider or deeper, if you wish, the chest / back armor will fit.

I also have been watching the lack of consideration for our female troopers out there and plan on altering the chest plate for our fem-troopers if someone might like that. With the exception of Zam and Amaidala and a few others I'd love to see more interest from builders for a dynamic butt-kicking costume for our fem-troopers made just with them in mind .....hmm sounds like my next project.....

Anyway, I was a bodybuilder 2 kids ago, LOL , so I'll make sure the chest will fit large pecked people LOL, and I'll post pics to show,

Also for you Tonya, being a 501st member,

I would personally alter a pre-made chest plate to fit you if you would like, however, beaware of the "tightness" the chest plate is displayed to be on the cg character. I've done this before for a few folks and it worked out great for them,

Oh yeah ! I love wolves too !!!! :)
