MKE-Trooper Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Hello everyone, Last month after a two plus year journey I finally became an official member of the 501st with the approval of my Death Trooper costume. While I absolutely love my DT kit and just got it approved for level 2 certification, I am already looking to my next project Before I pull the trigger on anything I wanted to put a shopping list together and run in past the group. My goal is to achieve level 2 "Lancer" certification so I am hoping the group can call out any items to avoid or recommend better options that might be available. Ideally, I would like to purchase as close to finished parts as I can. Here is what I put together so far. Please let me know what I missed. Helmet and Armor Studio Creations - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 8/19/24 (ASSEMBLED Scout Armor and Helmet Kit ARMOR AND HELMET ARE ASSEMBLED, READY-TO-WEAR OUT OF THE BOX.) Boots Crowprops - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 10/07/24 Gloves Wampa Wear - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 7/20/24 Soft Goods (Cummerbunds, Pouches, Flak Vests, Codpieces, Flight Suits, Boots) KriptonTop on etsy - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 10/09/24 EC-17 Hold-Out Blaster BlasterWorks - Ordered 7/15/24| Received 7/22/24 Biker Scout Satchel - BrodustrialProps Etsy - Ordered 7/15/24 | Received 7/20/24 Thanks to everyone in advance. I am looking forward to pulling the trigger on items and start building.
Chopper Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 From an initial pass, I don't see any immediate issues with your selection. All are longstanding well known vendors. From what I've heard, I don't think that Stephtrooper is active anymore. Note that the Mando scout has different requirements for the soft goods vs the ROTJ scout. There is no flak vest and the undersuit is a flight suit. Check what you're getting against the CRL first. https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Scout-Trooper-The-Mandalorian

Chopper Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 That should be fine. Just wanted to make sure when you mentioned the flak vest.

MKE-Trooper Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Well I just pulled the trigger and spent a bunch of money. Now I wait 1
Aradun Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Looking forward to seeing your build come to life! And keep those questions coming once everything is in hand. Where here to help. 1
Tarok Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Always exciting to see a new Remnant Scout build started. Your shopping list is very similar to what I used - my build thread is on these forums if it helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks @Tarok Your WIP is extremely detailed and will be an excellent resource! Do you have a shopping list of the paint and brushes you used for weathering? Would love to replicate what you did and use the same materials. 1
Tarok Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Thanks Tarok Your WIP is extremely detailed and will be an excellent resource! Thanks for the compliment I used an artist oil Raw Umber. I don’t recall the brand, however it wasn’t one of the more expensive name brands - just a cheap-ish “student grade” brand. For brushes, it was just a 25mm brush from the hardware store. Nothing fancy, just something to slather the paint on.I think I may have gone through 2 or 3 rolls of paper towels for the wipe off.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
MKE-Trooper Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 I received my Biker Scout Satchel today from BrodustrialProps and the quality of the bag and the weathering job is fantastic. Thank you @Navajo Bro Couldn't be happier. My wife's reaction when I showed her was "It looks old and dirty". I knew then I made the right call getting the weathered version 3
MKE-Trooper Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 I just purchased some oil paint off of amazon and I am starting my research on weathering so I am ready to roll when my armor gets delivered. Has anyone put a weathering guide together anywhere? Both Tarok and Christina have amazing WIP threads I am trying to follow but I have some basic questions that may already be answered somewhere. For example: Step 1: Give the armor a good coat of Raw Umber with a dry brush Step 2: Once the part is coated, wipe off using paper towel going softer in places dirt might gather. Step 3: This is where I have questions. Do you allow the Raw Umber to dry for 2-3 weeks before adding the second color like Burnt Sienna or Burnt Umber or do you add those between steps 1 and 2? Sorry for the dumb questions, I just really want to replicate the amazing work that I have seen here in others builds. Likely to also have the same questions for weathering the white soft parts if someone can point me to a guide/post on that. Thanks!

If you ever have any problems or every have anything come off just let me know I'll replace it for you! * so sorry, my other post was about bags I didn't catch you were talking about armor lol. I removed it so I don't clutter up your WIP 1 1

I just slathered it on, but you could dry brush if you wanted to build layers up. When wiping with the paper towel, I dragged the towel in the direction where dirt might gather. Play around with it though, the long drying times of oils means you’ve got plenty of working time. Just think about where dirt might gather.I used a 2nd colour (iirc it was burnt umber) on my first couple of parts, but didn’t like the effect and ended up going with only the raw umber on everything else. I think Christina had a similar experience.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If the results I am seeing on others builds is only Raw Umber, that looks pretty great and much easier anyway 2
MKE-Trooper Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 After waiting almost 2 weeks for my order with a "Clearance in progress" status with Fedex, my Soft Goods from KriptonTop on etsy was finally delivered today! With that everything is in hand. Now I just need to find the time to start weather everything. The boots from Crowprops are a bit more snug than I would like, but I am hoping they will stretch a bit after I break them in. 1
MKE-Trooper Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 Now that I have everything in hand, can anyone point me to a suit up video or guide? I have a few questions that I am sure have been answered many times. For example, I just tried on the soft goods from KriptonTop, where should the Cummerbund be positioned and what does the black strap connect to?
Chopper Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 The black strap connects to the back of your bund or your flightsuit. I have not seen a specific suit up guide or video for the mando scout. You can use the CRL photos for how it's supposed to look. The cummerbund is positioned about halfway over and under your belt. https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Scout-Trooper-The-Mandalorian 2
Tarok Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Suit up the same way as in Mickey’s YouTube video, just remember to invert your knee armour, and leave 1-2” between the chest armour and bund. Pouches can go over or under the belt (I prefer mine under).Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tarok Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Thanks Tarok. Do you have a link? Sorry mate, I’m clearly confused. I can only find the armour build and CRL videos. I can post my dressing order if it helps, but no video.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

MKE-Trooper Posted October 19, 2024 Author Posted October 19, 2024 I finally found time to start working on weathering and made some excellent progress! I am really happy with the results so far. How long does it take for the paint to dry? I thought I read 2-3 weeks somewhere but I can't find it now. 2
Chopper Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 What sort of paint did you use? Drying times will vary depending on the type of paint. That said, 2 weeks to dry would be pretty excessive for most paints.
