TreeHuggerMatt Posted April 8 Share Posted April 8 Due to my neurospicey brain working how it does at some point in the future id love to do a PT but sourcing the shirt.jacket as we know is a nightmare especially in Blighty. However with the help of @Hask and @Mandrake ive been doing some digging on all sorts of fabric sites and think I may , emphasis may have found one that could be right, This is now guarantee and obviously a pic off a website isn't idea however I have asked for a sample to sent to get a proper look to see if it actually is a possibility in the flesh so to speak. This is the material and the website and once I get the sample in a day or so ( ironically coming from my old home city of Manchester ) ill post a pic and we can take a better look. Then its just getting a decent pattern and the stuff for the shirt ribbing ( any tips ) and it could be an option for UK pathfinders wanting to get into a PT. Mandrake Posted April 8 Share Posted April 8 The shirt ribbing I can help you with,you should of said before 🤣 I Would imagine the same technique could be applied to making the jacket , although mine was hand stitched and didn't use piping. I only stumbled upon this after needing a replacement collar but decided I'd leave it to a expert to do,so I contacted imperial seamstress on Etsy,who kindly unstitched and replaced the collar with one of her own creations. MrPoopie Posted April 8 Share Posted April 8 It's been a busy day at work otherwise I would have gotten back to you guys sooner. I used a combination of 2 fabrics. The first was a ribbed pleather (faux leather) sold by JoAnn's Fabrics (US) and it was a part of their Yaya Han cosplay line. Sadly this fabric is not sold anymore. The other fabric is a smooth black pleather (faux leather) which was used for the main body as well as the sections between the ribbing on the sleeves. Before using the ribbed fabric I did some tests with the smooth pleather to see if I could have a go at making ribbing myself. It's totally possible although it's tedious and can be pretty frustrating. Basically what you need is pleather as well as a mid-weight backer fabric and piping cord. I also used a special foot for my sewing machine that helps hold everything in place when making ribs. All this being said, I do still have 2 yards of the ribbed pleather that would be enough to make 2 sets of sleeves. I'm willing to sell this off if anyone is interested. It's not cheap fabric though at about $35/yd. You would still need to get smooth pleather for the main body. Depending on how you cut everything and how long your arms are you might have enough to do the ribbing for the neck seal as well. Mandrake Posted April 10 Share Posted April 10 After consulting with the better half, I can confirm the jacket is made from the material I posted earlier . It's a softer faux leather so has a small amount of give/stretch and was used for the top half of the main body and sleeves. To create the ribbing in the sleeves, carol added a layer of padding to the back of the material before stitching the rib design to make them more prominent . The sports material used for the bottom of the jacket was also used to line the jacket throughout . Mandrake Posted April 10 Share Posted April 10 Looks suitably leathery looking to me ! As long as it's got a little bit of give / it's ever so slightly stretchy it should be ok.. I think.Another thing to test is that the 'leather' isn't going to flake,so give the material a bit of a scratch to check it's not going to mark easily.I sourced everything myself and just gave it to carol to work with .As requested a picture of my lovely ladies trousers ...For future reference, my armour pieces are permanently velcro'd on to the jacket and have stayed in place for a year, I recommend using official velcro as it's unbelievable strong!Another thing to bare in mind is the positioning of the wicking material on the stomach area, depending on what armour your using I think you'd probably have to adjust it's position,so it's not visible,I noticed on Mr poppies jacket he has used a lot less than I have Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Found a mesh panel for heat , is they what the bottom bit is? That stuff I posted is around 7 quid a metre but then would need the mesh plus the backing material for the ribs etc. Thinking from googling its a bout 3-4m of each? I found carol purely by ringing round until I found someone willing to take it on, for what it's worth she specialises in wedding dress's. To be honest I think someone who is creative and also a confident seamstress would be happy to take the challenge on.. you've just got to find them... providing them with as much detailed information as you can will make their job that little tiny bit easier 🤣 Another thing to try would be people who make costumes for theatre,or possibly university / college students that are doing relevant courses. As for the mesh, use the first link,I'm sure that's the place I ordered mine from,the more cooling you can get the better and it's also sweat wicking.
