Hey guys... Long time no talk.  Been pretty busy with the passing of my mom last year.  So, I have a basic approved scout but I want to tackle making it better.  A few of the things I want to try and tweak are...

1.) Weathering/White soft part/strap coloring

I would like to replica the weathering and soft part/strapping color seen here.

I do not have an airbrush and really do not want to spend the money on one since I will prob use it once and never again LOL. Anyone have any pointers of what would be the best way to achieve this. I was thinking of using tea as a die to get that off white color on the soft parts and straps. Any ideas, tips or tricks? 

 

2.) DLT-19 Project.

I built a 3D printed DLT-19 awhile back but never used it. I wanted something more realistic so I ended up selling it and getting a Denix. I will be doing some modifications to that but damn this thing is heavy LOL. 

 

3.) Attaching Velcro or ? to my flight suit to keep stuff from moving around.

I get a lot of stuff shifting around and I would like a way to keep it all from moving. Anyone have any suggestions, tips, tricks?

 

Was also able to finish up my 4th approved suit... RO Tie Pilot. So easy to wear LOL

Also, instead of standard rattlecans, I like to use Tamiya TS-14 black spray paint. It has a finer spray mist that's closer to an airbrush. If you want to use a standard flat black rattlecan from the hardware store, that's fine too though.

1) For weathering, you can use black spray paint. A rattle can was used to weather the armor on set. Here’s a couple of link on technique and tips:

Tea bags are the way to go if that’s the look you want to achieve for the pouches and strapping. Some of the Mando Scout WIPs used tea bags. Just make sure to limit the dye to your pouches and strapping for the hip boxes.

2). You fool . Seriously though, that Denix DLT19 is a beast weight wise, but what a beauty. I was tempted to get one. I picked up their Mauser C96 replica to make my wife’s DL44. Love their stuff.

3). Check out this post from@Chopper on how to keep things together while trooping. I incorporated most of his techniques into my build and I can pretty much do jumping jacks without things shifting all over the place.

You sure I shouldnt do the whole thing... My soft parts are blinding white in some lighting conditions. And yes, I know.... God damn thats a big scout LOL.

I wouldn't use tea to dye all of your softgoods. And you don't even need to tea dye your pouches and straps if you're going to mist weather your armor -- it's an option but not a requirement. The color differences are really minor, if you look at the photo below.

There was some spray mist weathering on the ROTJ soft goods as well, again in the photo below, which you can try, but you need to be real careful. The soft goods should have less weathering than the armor portions.

Agreed!  When I weathered my bund, boots, cod, and pouches, I used a rattle can, but practiced on some scrap fabric first.  Hang it up to spray it rather than laying it on a flat surface will make it easier to work the rattle can for the desired effect.  
 

The key is to start your spray off to the side of the item and then quickly rake it across the item.  That will keep you from creating “blaster burns”.  Another tip is to start at a nice distance to get light weathering and then come in a bit closer on a second pass if you feel the need for more.  Less is always better when it comes to weathering on a ROTJ Scout.

Definitely practice though to get a feel it and to iron out your technique!

I used a rattle can on mine too it was nerve racking, exciting and fun at the same time.
