(This may take awhile...)

Ordered SC trimmed armor last Thursday (10/6), received the order ship email this morning. (10/12) Armor SHOULD be here Saturday (10/15) by 8pm.

Ordered Kolossus Jumpsuit, stripped rear pockets (patched holes) and removed tool pocket (seam ripped the outside  and then cut down leg seam so so not to open leg outer seam). Suede should arrive tomorrow (10/13).

Seriously, those pockets were golden until I had to get to the reinforced corners, that's where it snagged.

Now i just need a fabric shopping list to start on the soft parts... once I finish my oldest daughters Jawa so I can drag her along on troops.

CRL on the flight suit says  Elastic OR Webbing, with Lancer requiring it to be 2" . I just want to make sure as I have 2" Webbing from making Flare Harnesses that should do the trick right? (Webbing is pic is 2 sewed together for said Flare Harness)

Awesome, just wanted to make sure that a specific strapping wasn't left out of the CRL for Lancer and then I had to redo something.

If have links to what I used for my soft parts, most of which was purchased at JoAnn Fabric if you’re looking for stuff.

Yessir I’ve started pouring over your build thread, the kolossus jumpsuit looks to be reinforced on both inner and outer parts of the leg. Just the sort of thing to get the anxiety going.

Looks like you're off to a good start! I know what you mean with the pockets, the reinforced corners are a real pain in the a**. Just started redoing my jumpsuit yesterday and was sitting in front of my tv and was cursing all the time... 😄

Ok, so I finally put on my big boy pants and cut the holes for the strapping on my armor.. this is the worst part right...

Attached (first pass) photos of most parts, I used a diamond cutting wheel and at the end, an endmill bit for the Dremel (if it could REALLY be called that...)

Ok adjusted cuts to fit all the straps, now I have one semi odd question, SC sends a long white 1.5” elastic, and one not quite as stretchy elastic strip, I’m guessing this is the backing strip?

Posted

The side strapping is that 1.5” elastic, piece in general is about calf diameter. On an off note, what’s the sop for over cuts? When I was widening my chest strap cut my blade slipped roughly 1/4” but it’s still in the groove area.

If you want to post a photo of the strap in question, go for it. SC used to send a lot of strapping, and not all of it is always needed as per the CRL.

I don't see any issue with the ding marks in your photo. They won't be very noticeable from more than a few feet away.

Had some time after work the last few days to do some minor bloodletting while trimming my armor. Got the slots cut, all armor pieces are strapped with the exception of shoulder bells, and top knee strap. Next task this week will be the belt and getting the shoulder bells strapped and adjusted. Helmet hasn't been touched yet because, well, I'm a coward, that'll be last ;) If I can I'm gonna look at also getting my flight suit riding patches/mudflap done this week. Also, the SC v2 armor is nice in that it has the hump setup for the Tank to be riveted... is there a total science to getting the center to attach it?

Putting some work in on the belt today, when figuring out strapping for the front I cut off about 17” for the front chevron if you will at the parachute clips really that close to the belt/box?

How does it look when you're wearing it? For Level 2, the drop boxes are supposed to hang approximately 1" under the belt, but for basic clearance there's more leeway there.

Belts not fully completed yet, I was waiting on strapping to be figured out to assemble everything as it stands I have about parachute clip distance (1”) between belt/box

Rear belt is right over left right?

Mocked up, the clip looks like it’s more over the belt/ bit I mean it’s just about where the top of the dropbox hits. Pardon the teenagers room 😐

Started getting the TD done, after an acrobatic mishap while I was attempting to hang the TD to dry (thank god neither Greeb flew off) heres what I have. I'm printing a TD Connector like the 1.5" plastic sink tailpiece @nateopotato brought to life earlier, should know in 6 hours how it turns out ;).

So as it stands, top armor should be all done, have the greebs on the Elbow armor (circles facing up right?). Main belt is assembled ordered some 1.5" cotton strapping, while SC supplied some I didn't realize that it's also for the chest strapping for Lancer as well. Ordered 1" strapping (shoulder bridges). If everything works all hard armor should be completed with the exception of the bucket by this weekend to at least clear basic level (i'll have to adjust the shoulder bridge/chest straps for lancer, but that's minor)

So I’m currently stuck unless I want to go work on softgoods while I’m trying to compartmentalize all the armor. TD just got finished , using the nice sink hack from @nateopotato.

Belt Clip placement on the TD, I counted 7 ribs from each end and then drilled between those ribs with a 1/8” bit, then used a  1/8”-3/8” rivet to make sure I had enough meat on the tube interior to grab the washer.

So for armor wise it’s either finish the belt (I was going to wait for more webbing to get here to figure the drop boxes ), or tackle the helmet, and I’m kinda worried about the helmet… all four parts of it ;), also while I’m on the helmet, is there a template floating around for the lens?

-> 1-1/2” sink throat piece getting installed

For a lens template, once your visor slot is cut, trimmed, and sanded, hold a piece of paper behind it and trace the slot with a pencil. Then, add maybe 3/8" or so to the edge of your trace line. Cut that shape out with scissors and that's your template.
