Biker Scout jumpsuit: Imperial Boots updated theirs as of Aug/Sep 2022

Recommended Posts

This is a general announcement to share with the Detachment information I learned.

Yesterday, I just received my Biker Scout jumpsuit from Imperial Boots that I ordered on 08/05/22.  When I ordered it, the leather suede was an extra option/cost and was designed to have the Mandarin collar.  When I opened the package yesterday, I noticed that it has an open collar.  I checked the Imperial Boots webpage today and it has been updated in general, but specifically the Biker Scout jumpsuit now comes with the leather suede, open collar and removable neckseal as standard (minor cost increase than previous version/release).

It appears Imperial Boots has responded quickly to the news from earlier in August that an open collar is now acceptable for the jumpsuit.  I wanted to spread the word and say thank you to Imperial Boots for staying on top of current 501st updates.

Thank you, Nate. Would you be willing to share some overall and detail photos of the updated suit from Imperial Boots?

I can, when I get home tonight I'll post them.

Excellent!  Thank you.  It's always great to see prop makers keeping up with the CRL.

Nice!  I ordered the new suit on this current wave myself!  I can definitely do a side by side with their "old" version, if anyone wants...

That would be helpful as well. Thank you.

Here are the pictures that I took.  Pardon any cat hair in the shots, I tried to remove it.  Also still learning picture techniques for the Forum.

Ok, with some help from @Chopper I figured out my forum image posting issues.  I switched Hosting Sites so that the pics can now be seen in this post.

You'll need to flip the elastic to the outside part of the legs, but otherwise that looks pretty good. Thanks for giving us a peek at the new IB scout soft goods.

Yup, thanks I'll flip the elastic.  Just wanted to show how they arrived out of the bag.

Happy to help and contribute to the Detachment.

Will this new version pass lancer specs?

Based on what I've seen in the above photos, the suit on its own appears to be good for Level 2.

It would likely still need tailoring.

It will definitely depend on body type.  I have been using the "old" version for a few years and it fit me just about perfect.  The "only" issue I had was with the elastic on the legs (my thighs are a bit on the thick side) and they were just a bit snug, so I had to stretch them out a little, but the suit itself fit great!  But that is on my body (and I had to get a medium when normally I wear a large in just about everything).

Finally got my updated IB flight suit.  Well, I got it like a week ago, but was out of town last week...  Overall, it's pretty nice.  I might need to tailor the legs a smidge (they're a little baggier than my original suit), but definitely an upgrade overall.  Below are the pics of my current suit (IB Medium from March of 2020) and the new updated suit (IB Medium, October 2022).

Overall impressions:

Nice suede patches/flap (that are heavy compared to my faux suede ones).
Butt flap is a little longer (original measured 12" and the new one is 12.5"), but that's probably a good thing and an easy fix for me.
Suede patches go right to the top of my knee.  The old suit went to pretty much the top of my calf.
I like the open collar compared to the mandarin collar.  I have a neck seal showing up today.  The suit comes with one but it is too small for me.
I'll need to stretch the elastic straps.  I needed to do that on my original one as well.  My thighs are on the thick side.
Also still need to add my stirrups and velcro patches on the new suit

Question about the new collar, when you put on the flak jacket, should the collar sit on top of it?

Thanks for the review, much appreciated.

To your question -- Some flak jackets have wider openings than others, but yes, the flight suit collar can sit on top of the flak jacket. The collar should not sit on top of the shoulder bridges.

Cool, thanks!  Yeah, my flak jacket sits higher than in that pic (basically goes right across the base of the collar), so I might need to play with that a little.  We’ll see, I just got my neck seal in and haven’t put everything (all the new stuff) on yet…
