Boots still work?

Recommended Posts

So I bought some boots a few weeks ago at a big five to prep for making them, what I did not notice at the time was the boots had a large ridge going around the topside of the boot, resulting in a kind of edge that flattens more near the top, I wanted to know if it would work for basic approval or not, I will probably end up buying more boots anyways because I want it to look better than this but, just as a quick question I thought to ask.

Can you shoot us a picture or a link to the boots?  Is this something you think would show after the covers were applied?

You can see, that because of the ridge, it makes a kind of edge around the top of the boot, it shouldn't be a major problem, but it will not be as smooth across as typical scout boots.

I see -- it's like a moccasin toe?   I'm wondering if that seam can be removed somehow -- like maybe you literally cut it off and then close up the gap with tape or glue?

That could work, alright thanks!

It's a desperate tactic, for sure, but if that's the only pair you have, that's the only pair you have.  I assume a return is out of the question?

I would recommend seam ripping the stitching. If you cut that flare off I don’t believe there will be anyway for you to glue the toe cap down. If you seam rip the stitching, you should be able to fold the top piece over the bottom which will provide you with a surface to glue it down in place. You may need to cut an extra piece of vinyl and wrap it around the bottom so that you create a flush surface. If not, when you glue the vinyl toe cap on (which needs to be pulled nice and taunt) you may see the edge of the original top where it’s been folded over and glued.

Hope that makes sense. It’s tough to convey without providing you with pictures. If you have questions or that’s not clear, let me know.

That actually sounds like it might work pretty well, I hope I can make the surfaces flush well. Thanks

Pretty much what I meant.
