Chin Strap plate Question

Recommended Posts

I noticed something @Chopper brought up i never knew was relevant for future reference on Lancer approval in @woobiee wip thread. I have a chin plate only a BOXER could love IMO. Its huge (see photo below), i have padding and to test out if i put in too much padding (why plate would show while helmet on) i took it all out to see if the plate would dissappear to the common onlooker. No chance no matter what i did. Sooo...

Do i dremmel it? Is my bucket too small? Ideas or fixes would be appreciated from anyone who has faced this issue.

Thank you 😊

Post some side profile pics with it on so that the armorers can see what it looks like. Sometimes the helmet is sitting too high and just needs to be dropped down (e.g., removing padding or moving the head band) and the chin strap magically disappears. Keep in mind also that the chin strap is optional even for lancer, so if you don’t like the look you can go without it.

Dennis gave some sound advice so the best place to start would be to measure where your chin is, sans strap, with your bucket on. If it’s coming in below the bottom edge then see if you can adjust your helmet to sit further down on your head. Recommend not sitting the top of the helmet directly on the top of your head as that will get awfully uncomfortable over a long troop. I can say that after being accidentally “bonked” on the head a few times that you don’t want it sitting right on your skull.🤕

Looking at the pics it does seem as if your cup is a little oversized but because where it sits is based on where your chin sits the place to start is with that measurement. As Dennis mentioned it is optional so if you don’t like it you can do without.

Agreed with everyone here. That was my plan of attack. Firstly, how the bucket sat on my head...seeing where my chin lies and adjust padding/head band accordingly. Then adjust chin cup strap for tightness, then the chin cup for fitment.

My actual chin is a little shallow so I had to reduce some depth with my chin cup.

I recommend doing all your fitments while having your balaclava on. I've noticed it adds just enough material to offset your measurements. For example, my bucket sat a little higher with my balaclava on vs without it. Also, with the balaclava on, my chin is even more shallow and that influenced how much I had to trim the chin cup.

Hi, how is everyone mounting the chin strap to the helmet itself?  Also what material are you using on the inside of the helmet to give it that clean finished look?  Thanks in advance!

What brand of helmet are you using?

Gotcha, the screen used helmets cut two slits in the side portions under the faceplate and glued in some 1" elastic. See photos below.

Other options include attaching the elastic to the helmet bolts, or if you're using a hardhat liner, to the liner. Also note that the chin cup is totally optional, so you don't have to have to use one.
