KOtrooper's Biker Scout build

Recommended Posts

I didn't do a Build Thread for my Shoretrooper build so figured I'd start one for my Biker Scout. Aiming for Lancer so I'll need some help from those wiser than I.

Armor: Studio Creations

Flight Suit: Red Kap

Gloves: Wampa Wear

Questions:

1) are the outlines ok for cutting out the ear holes?

2) are we gluing the buckets with e6000 or is 3m tape the way to go?d6de0e9ded61f9f4092d3ef136d9d6e5.jpg6c50080452f7f8ee1ba4da3bde2f3751.jpg

This makes me so happy!

Here's a good shot of how the earholes should look:

Yeah, I've been looking at those photos. It's tricky with the curves. I might just carve a bit and go from there.

I did a first pass of the ears. I know I need to smooth them out but wanted to get some input first. Thoughts?56d5080df2281cb0c9e312ee86036f66.jpg6f3881f628cc1184a8862d7774a7ffe0.jpg

I am SO geeked you’re building a biker scout! Ok enough of that😁

The right ear looks just fine but the left could use a little attention around the lower portion. You can go with either choice of adhesive but E6000 might be a little more forgiving than the 3M tape if something goes awry. I’m not sure if that 3M stuff will lend itself to being removed and repositioned.

I'm not sure how I missed this? Congrats on starting a scout!

With the scout ear holes, the shape should sorta look kidney bean-ish. If you have a circular file, I'd work a little bit on trying to round out the hard corners I've marked in the photo.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep working at the ears.

I put together the TD. I really liked pandatrooper's technique for adding pipe inside to get more surface area to glue. I didn't have any scrap the right size so I quickly printed out some circles. A little hot glue to hold in place and e6000 to secure and we're good. 20398e46ff90b695dceffb2faf463052.jpg8efbb41e2bb75b0e41cb9a477ced9444.jpg

The cutouts are looking fine. If you’re using an X-Acto knife and not a Dremel take it slow and easy. I ended up with a stint in the ER explaining to an amused doc how I cut myself. You were doing what now?

It’s a little easier using the X-Acto chisel blades of the appropriate width to remove the cut out than it is using the standard X-Acto blade. After scoring the sides and top pencil lines to an appropriate depth, the blade can be used like a chisel to remove the cutout in one piece. Makes for a cleaner and smoother cut. I found the soles of the Kingshow boots to cut like butter with a good blade so be careful like Retrofire said.

After a mishap with some bad white paint and a series of errors that made it worse, I went back to the beginning. A little sanding, fresh coat of paint, good white paint, and a new red stripe ... And the back greeblie is done. 422825fc421ac7c1a4d9a015bf8c4b0a.jpg

Found time to work on the collar. Took the butt pocket and sewed a piece of Velcro on the front.

Folded it and the fabric back and hemmed it closed.

Folded up the bottom to match the height of the collar and hemmed that too.

Sewed all of that to the flight suite. Did an X stitch for some extra strength.

Sewed the matching bit of Velcro to the other side and it's done.42d3fd67e7114b3a7d0ba2facdfde5fc.jpg

Starting on my pouches. Used@woobiee amazing pattern. I converted it to SVG format so I can cut the fabric all out on my cricut. I can make the SVG files available once I'm done if wanted.

First test of sewing the cover and it looks right to me.84878604c098df287ed5ecdda1b0c097.jpg

I sewed up my first pouch tonight. Is this looking right?

Can I have stitches showing on the top flap for attaching Velcro?0802539a622bddb930ae6df29af94875.jpgaeee73b5d1158b9a4ac23dbeec32f5f6.jpg45cc1c95b72b0593706d64fb7b01337b.jpg

The top flap ideally is completely covered by the chest armor so stitches for velcro wouldn't be showing.  I have velcro on mine

Thanks. I'll move forward and make the second pouch.

When I stitched the velcro onto my pouch tabs, I just tried to keep the stitching towards the edges and I didn't stitch the bottom edge. I also didn't do any diagonal stitches or anything like that. I don't move my pouches all that much, so it just needs to hold. It's not like my knee or bicep armor, that I'm putting on and taking off all the time.

Make my second pouch and realized somehow my tabs at the top ended up different sizes.

Question, the 2" inch plus requirement in the CRL to attach the pouch... Is that measured from the front (red line) or the back (blue). I suspect it's from the front but just wanted to check before I rework the pouch.a21cbac87f6514ac97d159b541cf4a73.jpg

Fixed the attachment tab size and added some Velcro to the back. All measurements hit the Lancer specs. 0e98eb129737b56a82e946125dc8d13b.jpg

Printing some parts for my blaster. Thanks to@MrPoopie for the files.

I sliced them into smaller parts for (hopefully) a cleaner print. Printing with supports has never been a friend of mine. 26b0559b059f7155a4c218d2a1f94e46.jpg

I have two of them. They're beasts! I hardly ever have to calibrate new filaments.

My dad gave me a rivet gun and some rivets. He said they're 1/8 inch but wanted to double check before I went to town. Are these ok to use?d3b23c293492ef291c4a46a19dead28e.jpg
