Finally...

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking off and on for a few years and I've finally committed to going all in. My wife picked up this helmet from New Image Props in the UK for my 50th birthday and now the rest is on me. I do have a question though. I've been following both Walt's Trooper Factory & Studio Creations and was wondering if there was a consensus on where I should go for the rest of the armor. Also, suggestions for soft ware and boots would be much appreciated.

Unless you are doing the Mandalorian Scout specifically, I would avoid the WTF armor.  SC is way more accurate to ROTJ and doesn't have any major hurdles to achieving Level 2, should you choose to do that.

I hate to bash another maker, but the WTF kits have a horrible reputation.  I bought the SC armor kit, made my own helmet, and had no issues putting it together and getting approved.  It's a very nice kit.  The WTF snow trooper helmet I was handling recently when designing my own snow trooper bucket felt very thin and was made of floppy plastic.  As I've learned from many things in life, you get what you pay for.

If you're willing to take advice this early on, the kits come with instructions, but I'd recommend buying extra velcro (and a HD sewing machine) and stalking people's Lancer approved builds for excellent ideas and visual references.  Those instructions aren't always as idiot proof as idiots like me need.  The pics people have on here as they go through their builds are priceless.  And don't be afraid to ask for input and help.  This is a very open and welcoming group.

Finally outta the shadows! Welcome brother and happy birthday! You’ve got me beat by 3 days!

Looking forward to seeing your WIP. You’re in good hands with some of the best armorers in the Legion who know these costumes inside and out.

Ask tons of questions! We’re all here to help you succeed.

Yeah these guys know what they are talking about. SC armor is really easy and quality, not to mention it’s extremely affordable. For soft goods, there are so many options, I went with chefs creations for my vest and flight suit, cheesewhoopie for the cummerbund and crow props for the boots (I do plan to check out the Imperial boots new scout boots though cause I had to put a lot of work Into my crow props in order for my OCD to be happy), there is also a butt ton of people on this detachment that make amazing boots so check out the sales thread. Hope this helps.

Took read through the Trade and Vendor Sales forums and they seemed to be a bit dated. Looking for the EC-17 Hold-out Blaster and messaged Darth Voorhees, as his name popped a few times. If any of you have a lead or know a guy, I would definitely appreciate a connection.

I think he just finished his last ever run, so unless someone doesn't pay from his last run, you may have to entertain other options. Some folks have gone the way of 3d printed blasters and there are a few decent files out there.

Finally created my WIP post and looking for some opinions on boots? Imperial Boots seems to be what a lot of people are using,  but the Crow Prop has a great inner boot with some needing to be done on the leather work.

How much work are you looking to do and what's your budget? You can make a great boot with marine vinyl and a work boot for relatively cheap. If you want to go for Level 2/Lancer, you'd need to cut the soles out, but it's totally doable.

The new IB boot is pretty good and you don't have to worry about doing a boot build. Again, if you're interested in Level 2, you'd need to make sure that the shaft height is tall enough for where you knee armor sits.

And the new CrowProps base boot is pretty great too. It'll cost more than a cheap work boot, but you'll have nicer soles to work with when you lay down the marine vinyl. Again, up to you depending on time/effort/cost.

I always 2nd guess myself as tutorials online seem to make things look too easy. I think I want to make the boots something I invest more than money into. I,m going to go with CrowProps but see they're located in Ecuador. Wondering if I should be worried about the international shipping? I saw this video https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2831242230460614

I'm wondering how difficult it would be to work with leather and if there are patterns for pieces needed? Sorry to latch on and bombard you with all of the questions. If it's better to take this to specific topics, I can definitely do that.

Leather can be tricky to work with. There's one scout who used leather to cover their boots a few years ago. Let me see if I can find the thread. I used marine vinyl for mine.

I just recently bought the sierra sole underboots from CrowProps and had no issues. He ships via DHL and they arrived within the promised timeframe.

Here's the post I was remembering about working with and using leather on the boots:

You can definitely make your own using CrowProps boots as a base or the usual Kingshow Boot many use. The tutorial on the forum is solid and easy to follow. I think I might have some additional measurement details in my WIP if I remember correctly.

It’s definitely the way to go if you want to save some cash, and you’re okay putting in a little extra time.

I was on the CP site to place the order for the under boots and saw that they do leather a outter shell also. As compared to the boots on the CRL, the CP boots look way off and I'm not sure if that's due to the leather or how they're put together.

Yeah we've done a few reviews of the CP boots on the forum.  The reason why they offer the under boots now is because the Detachment reached out and asked for that to be an option.  We felt that their full boot offering wasn't as screen accurate as we would like and giving people the ability to make their own boot covers would lead to a better result.

I just ordered the base boots only and looking forward to taking the boot covering with the leather. @Chopper shared a post about a trooper who took it on. It looks challenging, but doable with time and patience. Thanks and much appreciation!
