DLT-19 Options?

What are the best currently-available options for DLT-19 or 19X?  Several places I’ve looked into are not offering (or in business).   Lots of 3D printed options (on Etsy namely which i think would be a crapshoot). Also iffy about a 3D print how much cleanup there will be without seeing in person.  Any vendor recommendations welcome!  (Also interested in used.)

I sell mine on Etsy, but give people on here a cut to both help out the community which has been really awesome to learn from, and to not have to pay etsy their cut (which gets worse every year it seems).  These are solid resin (barrel is supported with a filled aluminum tube inside for strength and weight reduction) with a few parts to glue in place (only the safety lever is 3d printed), and very easy to clean up.  I hate print lines and don't trust PLA/ABS/Whatever to hold up to much abuse.    I know there's a file on here for the scope too, which I've not made myself.

I posted them up here a while back.  Sold some of my B grade casts, but now I know how to get them properly out and shouldn't have too many of those in the future. I hope.  I prefer the solid resin and will tolerate the weight for reliability.  I sound like Boris the Bullet Dodger there...  Love that movie.  If you want another in the future, look me up!

Question:

Im building a 3D print, but would prefer a resin or even better, rubber casting.  Just received a Hellhounds E-11 and I am in love with that thing!  What about possibilities of a 19 to 19X conversion by simply removable scope and bipod?  Could double for TB-HWT-TD and TK hero use!  Indexed with Rare earth magnets?

I’m not familiar with hellhounds, what all do they produce?

I think I’ve seen him on FISD, but he’s on Etsy too. Haven’t really taken a close look at his work though.

I’ll send you some photos of my E-11 blasters. Probably won’t be able to until Friday though.  I’m very busy at the office.  I happened to be able to afford two.  One ANH version, the other an ESB E-11 variant.  Both are very sweet!

Thanks brotha, I really appreciate it. I actually just went over to his Etsy page and saw them. Definitely quality stuff. They look great.

Yes, they are.  My only gripe is that he can be pretty slow and somewhat forgetful about things.  No beef about the product though!  Beautiful work!

Lol, I guess that happens to a lot of us with age:)

I'm looking for a DLT.  Are there any new options out there?

A couple of questions to help provide you with the best info…What options/vendors have you looked at? Are you looking to buy a completely finished and ready to troop right out of the box prop, or a kit that you put together yourself? Is 3D printing an option for you?

If possible, ready out of the box is preferred.  I've been looking around in this forum for options but postings seem to be older/not available anymore.  It sounds like 3D printing is the way to go lately.  I had concerns for 3D printed ones being fragile but I have no experience with them.

At this time there are unfortunately very few finished non-3D print DLT19 makers.  Diamond State Props is no longer active and the same is true for Praetorian Arms.

Hellhounds Props does makes them, however I believe that his backlog got so significant that, after some complaints, he is no longer accepting new orders.

The coveted blasters are the rubberized ones, but they've kinda of gone the way of the dinosaur due to 3D printing being so readily available, cheaper, and with the 3D printing hobby growing, you can just buy good files and print and finish it yourself.  Hellhounds Props is the only one I know of that makes rubber ones, but like Chopper said, he isn't taking new orders until his current backlog is complete.  He had some life issues that set him behind, but he is working with the help of others to clear the backlog.  If you can wait it out, and are in no rush then just hang tight.

There was someone here on the forum who was making resin blasters recently, but I'll be darned if I can find the post.  @Chopper do you recall?

You can also post on the 501st Legion forums that you are interested in buying a rubber DLT19.  You'll see a Praetorian or Hyperfirm come up from time to time, but they go quick!  If you post you're interested in buying one, and then bump the post maybe monthly, you might get someone who is either retiring or looking to sell off costumes or accessories that they no longer use and they'll reach out.  I think one guy did that this year, and after months of waiting finally got a bite.

I'd be cautious in ordering 3D prints from merchants on Etsy or Ebay without vetting them first.  Makes sure that you ask for feedback from the Pathfinder Community or FISD (whitearmor.net) if you find something.  FISD's Heavy Weapons Troopers usually carry the DLT19 and would be able to provide some guidance.  There's a guy I know who bought a DLT off of Etsy, not sure the vendor, but you can see the quality difference right away.  The stock is thinner, the barrel a smaller circumference, etc.

Keep in mind also that if you get a fully finished blaster that it will run you around $300 or more, which is also the price of a really good 3D printer.  My advice, which I followed myself, is to invest in a 3D printer and print your own.  There's not a huge learning curve and printing one will probably take one roll of filament (about $20-$25).  If you want to make post processing quick and easy, buy some XTC-3D, ($20 - $40 depending on the size bottle you get).  It will cut down on your sanding and provide a nice smooth surface to paint.  There's really good files for free online, so with paint, your looking at around $60 - $80 give or take.  I bought mine in January of this year and it has literally paid for itself saving me hundreds of dollars buying finished props from vendors.

As to durability with 3D prints, it varies.  ABS and PETG are the most durable, but ABS needs special ventilation if printing indoors (nasty stuff), and PETG needs a lot of fine tuning to get it dialed in for perfect prints, but once dialed in you're always good to go.  PLA+ is the easiest, but it's also susceptible to warping if left in the heat (like the trunk of your car during summer) for several hours.  Keep in mind that if damage does occur, it's can be pretty easy to repair or worst case you just print out a new part and replace the damaged one with your nice and shiny 3D printer.   Most props on Etsy and Ebay that are 3D printed use PLA or PLA+.

I think this is great advice. I’ve been looking at purchasing a rubber DLT as well. I have two of the Hellhounds Props E-11 blasters, and would love to see a DLT in the same material and finish. My texts to Daniel a while back reveal he had been in the process of developing a DLT, but I never could get him to commit to saying he had them where he could produce one for sale and deliver it. I assume that project had stalled and still isn’t ready despite his other issues of developing and delivering blasters.

I got a nice 3D printer, a PRUSA 3+ and love it! I will have to warn you that it DOES become almost another hobby all in itself and isn’t like buying an Epson paper printer for your computer, plugging it in and printing out documents! It’s fidgety and requires your attention and patience as you get over the learning curve. I was able to print out a nice DLT-19X from files on Thingyverse and several Imperial scout blasters. The DLT is impressive and quite big and obviously requires multiple print pieces that you assemble and fill in lines and etc. It’s just not that easy and requires a good amount of work and hours to get right. If you want one REALLY bad, get a printer and get busy! Otherwise, be patient and have a small fortune in cash ready to go at the drop of a hat for something else to come along.

Best of luck on your quest trooper! I’d be happy to post some photos of my DLT-19X work if you’re interested.
