3D Printed helmet that can pass approval?

Does anyone know of a 3D printed helmet model that would pass approval with the proper finishing?  I know technically any print with enough added labor could pass, but I'm talking about a model which can print out, get the proper surface care (sanding, smoothing, painting, feature work, etc) and pass inspection without the need to change a bunch of features, or add to it?  

 

I recently got a 3D printed helmet that I wanted to work on for a non-501st project, and in doing so I noticed what I imagine would be glaring errors that would prevent approval, so my goal is to avoid that model in the future.  Thanks!

Yes 3D printed helmets can pass CRL and even Lancer specs if finished properly. There is really only 1 helmet file that I'm aware of that this is really possible with. Jesus Salmeron make a helmet model that is quite accurate. he has even made revisions from his original design so that it's easier to pass CRL requirements. That being said, you still need to make sure the finish work is done properly. Make sure that you use the "Version 2" helmet as it has the ear holes cut out.

If you can post some pictures of the helmet file that you are wondering about we might able able to make a more informed decision.

The one I got was from a vendor on Etsy that printed it.  I have since gotten my own printer and, while the helmet is usable for non-official type wear, it's just not quite right.  I don't wanna post the guy's store because I feel like that would be calling him out or something.  But I'll pick up that file you linked and give it a go.  I had heard of that as being the best model, but wanted to hear first from some 501st folks before going in on it.

It's not a problem not wanting to post the vendor's info. We do our best not to mock anyone for their work and understand that 501st requirements are very in depth and not for everyone especially those who just want a display piece. Let us know if we can help out with anything else during your build.

Thanks!  Do you know if his 3D printed armor files are also of equal quality?  They are a bit more expensive, so I don't want to pull the trigger on those if they aren't worth it.

I haven't taken a look at his armor file syet but without trying to promote myself I can send you a link for the files I created. They used to be listed free on Thingiverse but had to be removed due to theft issues. Just PM me and I'll send you a link and you can decide for yourself.
