ROTJ Scout Bag

Recommended Posts

Ok folks, so the American Apparel bag linked here finally arrived. Here's some photos to show you all what I'm working with. Not bad for $15.

It's got a nice sheen to it, similar to the film.

Cylindrical in shape.

Shot with my legs for scale. Size looks about right.

I will need to do some mods -- specifically stitch ripping the straps off, removing the label, and adding 1" black cotton webbing.

Need to also add a square, black-painted metal tri-glide on each strap, like this one:

I've been searching online for a duffle bag, and I can't find the right one, so now I'm thinking I should just make one from scratch. Maybe we can even put together a thread/tutorial for it, eventually!

First thing I need to know are the measurements for the bag. Once I have the approximate measures, everything else should fall into place from there.

Quick draft:

  • Black smooth, shiny material (Nylon, polyester, leather, etc.)
  • Cylindrical-shaped with circular ends.
  • Approximately 20 inches long and 8 inches wide.
  • Black fabric straps attached to the bag with small metallic silver discs (rivets, Chicago screws, etc.)
  • One black tri-glide buckle on each strap.
  • Stuffed so that the shape of the bag is apparent.

About how long and wide should the straps be?

@Chopper?  What did you use?

I used 1" black cotton webbing. The length of the straps was approximately 39".
