Cummerbund pouches

Which should you do, off white or white? Making mine as close to specs as lancer if I ever wanted to go that route. Haven’t seen anything about off white. Where does the “off white” come from as the only thing I have seen in ROTJ is white.

I'm going to make a little confession here.... something I've been silent about for years.  But now's the time.

I don't think the pouches or dropbox straps were ever off-white.  I think they were white from the very beginning.  At least in ROTJ.

So where is this whole "off-white" thing coming from?   I think it's down to the heavier fabrics of the pouches and dropbox straps looking different on film than the lighter cotton of the bund and codpiece.  Different materials hold color in different ways, even if they are all white.  There was obviously some weathering done, but I don't believe they were uniformly tea-stained.

Also aging plays into it.  Canvas tends to yellow over the years.  So people see the MotM exhibit Scout and the materials have yellowed, so they think that's how they were in the film.  I just don't see any evidence of this in the movie itself.  They just look like a slightly dirty white to my eye.

The dropbox straps may have been bone colored -- that's a common color for cotton webbing, but I've seen plenty of photos (especially of the prototype Scouts) where those straps look starkly white.

There have also been Biker Scout toys where the soft goods were painted off-white, but again, I see no evidence of this in the movie itself.  The soft goods look white to me.  Maybe dirtied up a bit, but not tea-stained.  The toys tend to exaggerate this effect.  They've also made the bund off-white which I think is just wrong.

But some things become tradition over time and I'm not going to remove off-white goods from the CRL.  It's your choice whether you want to do it or not.  Personally, my stuff is white.

our glorious leader is probably 120% correct - but I sure do like the look of the yellowed/ off white pouches and straps - along with some dirt and grime versus an all white version. You look at the Deathstar scene - yup all white! So dealer's choice.

That strap looks off white and dirty to me vs the white of the plastic belt.

I tend to agree also.  I made my pouches from the same heavy white cotton as my bund/cod.  Very pleased with how they turned out.  In a fit of boredom I made a pouch from off white duck cloth.  To me it just looks off.  Not just in color, but in the texture of the fabric.  Personally, I think a dirtied up white heavy cotton pouch looks more like what I interpret to be in the movie/still images.

I think canvas and regular cotton just hold color different, and absorb dirt differently.  It's very apparent here, with the webbing straps as well.  Also, aging would have an effect on these fabrics.  The costume was close to 30 years old at this point.

IIRC, the off white option was something even before my time (2009) that was meant to make it easier to look like an Endor scout and not a Death Star scout. The pouches should still be made of the same material. Also, touching upon what Mickey said, they were all white to begin with and were weathered down after the DT scenes were shot. So there's that. :tb1:
