Are customizations allowed?

So I'm really new to this and haven't even bought my first armor set as right now I don't have the money to spend, (just got out of basic so gettin that e1 pay)but I really like the thought of decaling my armor set because I realized while seeing troops that after your 5th or 6th time, you've seen just about all of them. I wanted to have an armor that stands out but didn't want to go the mandolorian side, would like some advice, and happy holidays!

Hey there, if you're not looking to join the 501st, then you're welcome to customize as much as you want.

For 501st approval, you're pretty much restricted to what's detailed in the CRL.

Short answer is no.  The 501st is closer to reenactors than cosplayers.  To be approved and to participate in trooping, your costume must be screen accurate. 

But as @Chopper said, you can do what you want with your armor.  And wear it to conventions and the like.  Just not as part of the Legion. 

One of our members 3d printed a Samurai Scout armor that he wears at conventions.  But that's just for fun.  

There are other SW clubs that let you create your own characters, but that's not what the Legion is about.  

And I have to disagree with your premise. There is nothing cooler or more imposing than seeing a parade of uniformed Scouts all massed together!

I definitely think it's awesome to see but it's more of the fact that being in the military I'm really used to being in a team, and not being an individual, and I wanted to use the costuming to differentiate that, so does that include no pauldrons either?

Correct!   Scouts don't wear pauldrons on screen so we don't wear them on troops.   If you wanted to wear a pauldron with your scout costume in some unofficial capacity, you are free to do that.   But any Legion appearances must follow the CRL.

If individuality is what you’re going for, have a chat with your local garrison command and find out what they have a lot of, some of, or none of. If you really want to stand out within the legion maybe look at the Spec Ops detachment, for a shadow scout, or even Blizzard Force for a snow scout.

But yeah, get in touch with your local garrison, they will be able to tell you what will stand out for them.

i have to disagree abit on some of what has been posted. 

yes, to be approved within the 501st you have to go by the crl.  

after you are approved you can makes changes and add to your costume (like adding a pauldron ... adding decals/logo onto your armor) but, those changes can only be done with your local commands approval.   some areas overseas have imperial cogs on their chest, aurebesh writing on the shoulder bells ect. ect.

and, some events may not want an individual customized character this will be up to your event lead to make it know to the poc(point of contact) for the event that there is a non cannon character and ask the poc if its allowed.   at a LFL event there are NO changes allowed!!

my areas command allows changes at some events ... yours may not. 
see the pics below of a known scout who has served in several garrisons with his changes and has been doing so for 10+ years.
the last pic is of him and me at a recent event ... hes more weathered and beat up than ever

UKG has those exceptions because they were grandfathered in when they were incorporated into the Legion.

My garrison. Southern California, has made it clear that if you are doing a Legion activity, you must follow the CRL.  Most garrisons are the same.  And the Legion overall has been moving in this direction. 

But again this is for when you are doing an official Legion activity.  My ART, Scout Team Six, has special patches we wear on our shoulder bells when we have non Legion appearances.  Like at a local convention.  We are not permitted to wear these when doing an official troop. 

But if you have a question, ask your Garrison command.
