clockworksoldier Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Can anyone possibly direct me to a tutorial or a picture of how they installed their 3m speedglas bolts onto the visor of their bucket?
BikerScout007 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 The 3m Speedglas bolts are great because they are so simple. Here's what I did on the KS I built for my son 1) I cut a square hole in the visor that fits the square end of the bolt. Then drilled a corresponding round hole into the helmet itself. 2) Then I fed the grey bolt through both holes to the other side 3) Then you just screw the black washer in place. 4) And that's it! Very simple and makes it really easy to take the visor off if you need to make repairs 3 1
clockworksoldier Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 AWESOME!!!!! TOOO EASY!!!! 1
mickeymark34 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Where does one acquire some of these? I did a search of Amazon and google and came up with nothing.
clockworksoldier Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 I just went to amazon, under my previous orders and it says That they are unavailable at this time. However if you go to the 3M website I was able to find this......But the 3M website also took me to this. https://www.amazon.com/3M-Speedglas-Headband-Assembly-05-0660-00/dp/B007UUH0LA?SubscriptionId=AKIAI6WGZ24OLDWOOQJA&tag=commconn_us_45_101390-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B007UUH0LA&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Speedglas-Headband-Assembly-Kit-SL-05-0660-00-1-EA-Case/?N=5002385+3294755384&preselect=3293786499&rt=rud Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
mickeymark34 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Thanks Greg. I put them in my cart that way I can find them later. 1
Stroker Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Just so you know those are the new style bolts. If your wanting the old style like used on the movie helmets you might have to go with a resin set. Someone around here was selling resin copies. I can't remember who.
Dart Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Another easy way to install these is to drill a 1/2" hole in the visor and a 1/4" hole on the faceplate. The bolt will fit into the round hole with a solid push and stay put and the smaller hole is the right size for the threaded end. 2

I was not able to cancel my order as it was already processed. I got them yesterday and look nothing like the ones in Mickey's post. I will be returning them.
CatfoodRob Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 The classic style bolts haven't Ben manufactured for a few years now, you have no hope of buying them from 3m direct as they send out their latest design . your only option is to use resin copies .
BikerScout007 Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 ....or buy them from Kevin Weir like I said. He has a stockpile of the old ones. 3

mickeymark34 Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 These are the ones I got from Amazon. They look nothing like what was pictured on the website.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

CatfoodRob Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Nothing stopping you building the helmet , bolting it together is one of the last jobs on a helmet build, and you can just use a slightly undersized bolt to finish the job , somthatbwhen yourbspeedglass parts arrive you can open up,thenholes and fitbthem . 3
DarthSnark Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I know this is an old thread but I am actually looking for the bolts in black for my shadow scout helmet- does anyone know if the bolts from amazon are concave/ the proper size?

If you order these, then they should be the properly sized, concave 3M bolts. They will be grey, not black, though. So you'd need to paint them. https://www.amazon.com/Fibre-Metal-Honeywell-FM4001-Quick-Lok-Adapter/dp/B002BUMS8Y/ref=psdc_7491811011_t1_B015MG1SMK The bolts referenced earlier by MickeyMark are black, but they are convex in shape. 2
