Hey all,

For those of you who have had experience with WTF builds, what did you use to fill in the gap between the two halves of the helmet, and sand down before painting? On one of Walt's video tutorials, he talks about using devcon to attach both halves together (I did that) and continue using it to fill in the gaps. Problem: I am out of devcon, this product is no where around me, and I'm trying to get this costume finished before June 9th for Wizard World in Columbus. Would bondo work? I've never used bondo or similar before.

i use all purpose bondo and spot putty on my rs helmets(8 of them now) ... no issues ... sand the helmet surface with 80 grit(or rougher) to give the bondo something to adhere to.

its really just preference .. some like to use polyester filler(icing), some like to use abs paste, some like apoxie sculpt ... use what your comfortable with.

take note of all your seams, anywhere there is not a backer at the seam, like at the ends of the helmet, any filler will start to crack there when the helmet flexes.

good luck!

I am working on a WTF right now. I used Plastic Weld/ DevCon to bind the backing ABS and the 2 parts of the dome. I then used ABS filler from a hobby shop across the street from me and have added extra plastic weld and more filler and more sanding to get it to where it is now. YEY!

My mentor and I ended up going to an Auto Zone to get what we needed. It worked, but it's a bit of a mess. We started the sanding process so hopefully my helmet will be finished soon; before the 9th. *fingers crossed*

Man that looks so good. What paint did you use? I still need to finish up the visor, then glue in the face, then put it all together. Hopefully this weekend it will be finished!!!

I’m shooting for this weekend too! I just used Home Depot 2x Paint/ Primer semi-gloss. But many many coats and I’m not done.

Do a coat then wet sand, another coat, wet sand again repeat a few times. Trying to get as clean as I can. It’s not going to be perfect but I will know I built the thing!
